| RR 94 (6/2011): From a south facing hill averaging 270 meters above sea level (the highest altitude of all the vineyards) and made from roughly 50-65% Mourvedre and the rest a fair chunk of Cinsault and then Grenache, the 2008 Domaine Tempier Bandol Cuvee Speciale La Migoua is wild and slightly exotic, showing crisp black cherry, ground stone, charcoal, hung game, meat, and earth aromas and flavors. With air, the wine picks up additional minerality and has an almost feral quality that.s hard to describe. Certainly less polished and thick than the La Tourtine, this has a classic, textbook Mourvedre profile (even though it has less Mourvedre in the blend¡¦ go figure.) Medium+ bodied on the palate and edgy and structured, with fantastic purity of fruit, a brilliantly focused, pure texture, crisp acids, and loads of tannin and structure, this fantastic wine should be left along for 3-5 years, and then consumed over the following decade or longer. A gorgeous wine that I'd be happy to drink any time. |

| WA 90 (6/2007): A potent nose of blackberry, leather, and forest floor, a little disjointed at first but becoming more harmonious with aeration. The full-bodied palate is a little rustic, but well balanced with a herbaceous, leafy core. Just lacking a little persistency and length on the finish, but good potential. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020

| JR 17 (10/2010): 70% Mourvèdre, 2% very old Carignan and the rest divided up between Grenache and Cinsault. Fermented in stainless steel but then raised in large oak foudres for over a year.
Bright crimson. Full and spicy but clean. Rich and lively and very satisfying and vibrant for the money. Just an undertow of gaminess. Lip smacking - hot and almost baked but it has life and lift too. |

| The Vine (6/2004): Good colour. As usual a bit gamey on the nose. But, if not as structured as the 2000, it nevertheless has no lack of depth and dimension. Slightly astringent on the attack from the tannins, which are not quite as ripe as in 2000, but long, fresh, complex and classy at the end. Very good indeed. Drink 2008-2020. |
