BH 88-91 (4/2005): A wonderfully seductive nose of plum and spicy black cherry framed in obvious wood lead to very earthy, sweet and intense, gorgeously complex medium full flavors and excellent length. The overall impression is not as elegant as that of the Couchereaux but there is perhaps more depth of material here. A choice. Outstanding! Drink 2013+. VM 88+ (4/2006): Medium red. Nose shows an almost candied ripeness, with hints of licorice root and smoky oak. Densely packed, broad and dry, with notes of strawberry, underbrush and mushroom. This liqueur-like wine is still rather bound up, but I would like to have seen a bit more verve. |

| BH 91 (4/2013): The generous wood the cask sample displayed has almost fully integrated though this does open with noticeable reduction. I gave this 20 minutes or so in a decanter which was sufficient to dissipate the funk and to reveal very pretty red and dark berry fruit, violet hints and earth nuances. There is excellent volume to the solidly well-concentrated medium weight flavors that are at once suave but detailed, all wrapped in a tension-filled, dusty, austere and mouth coating finish of impeccable balance. A classic Clos des Ursules that should reward well 12 to 15 years of cellaring. Drink 2022+. Outstanding |

Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru |

VM 98+ (4/2008): Bright, full deep red. Pungently mineral aromas of raspberry, dried flowers, flint, smoke, mocha and underbrush. A monumental wine of ungodly intensity and extract without any impression of excess weight. The dusty, tactile extract fills the mouth with spicy, minerally, high-toned perfume, and the wine ascends to an even higher level on the peacock's tail of a finish, which boasts great energy and persistence. I drank this bottle over a period of four nights (one of us has to show some restraint), and oxygen couldn't kill, much less flatten, its treble tones, even as its volume and sweetness expanded. I hope I have a chance to revisit this at its peak, in about 20 years. BH 94-97 (4/2007): This is notably riper than any other in this group of Gevrey grands crus with a profoundly complex nose of red and black pinot fruit, warm earth, underbrush, game, anise, clove, mocha and roasted coffee hints that introduce rich, full and intense flavors that are packed with potential on the serious and chewy finish that is both concentrated and powerful while seeming to go on forever. There is quite simply another dimension here that takes the '05 Bèze well beyond its stable mates but be prepared to wait as this will need 15 to 20 years in the cellar first. Sublime. Drink: 2020+ Comments: Don't miss! WA 93-95 (6/2007): Deep black cherry, charred meatiness, rose and licorice give away the identity of Jadot’s 2005 Chambertin Clos de Beze. Firm tannins and mouth-filling but bitter black cherry fruit, along with black licorice, wet stones, smoky black tea and Latakia tobacco feature on the palate, and there is a savage grip in the the finish. This lacks the refinement and elegance of many of the best 2005s from this great site, but bids fair to make up for this in sheer intensity and mysteriously complex depth. Here is a potentially ageless wine that doesn’t merely typify the dark side of 2005, but is a veritable Darth Vader of the vintage. |

VM 92 (4/2001): Deep red. Superripe aromas of redcurrant, cocoa powder, mint and game. Tangy, crystallized red berry flavors offer a penetrating sweetness, but firm acids are currently keeping the wine quite tight. Impeccably balanced grand cru, with powerful extract, powerful structure and terrific grip. BH 89 (2/2001): Beautifully complex, spicy black fruit aromas introduce remarkably supple, medium weight flavors that display plenty of pinot sap and a wonderfully broad range of flavors. This is very intense and quite long with a clear sense of breed to it. This is very young with excellent potential and while this will probably never be a truly great Jadot Bèze, it should be a lovely wine in 10 years or so. Try from 2008+. |

VM 96 (4/2009): Bright, full red. Vibrant but brooding nose shows a medicinal austerity to the pungent aromas of raspberry, flowers and botanical herbs. Penetrating, high-pitched and brilliantly delineated, with uncanny energy and lift to the red berry, floral and mineral flavors. This saturates every square millimeter of the palate, then explodes with perfume on the expanding aftertaste. The overall impression is of pure soil-driven energy in a rather uncompromising style, but when I drank the second half of my bottle two days later with food, it showed a deep cherry flavor and compelling sweetness. Splendid Clos de Beze. WA 95 (12/2009): The 2006 Chambertin Clos de Beze is in another league from Jadot's other 2006 vintage Chambertin grand crus, or for that matter any wines that went before it in that collection. A complex and classic Clos de Beze nose of rose petal, black raspberry, peat, licorice, dark chocolate, and smoked meats leads to a correspondingly multi-faceted palate of silken textural refinement, underlain by savory, saline minerality. In the best manner of the vintage, this marries soothing and invigoration, concentration and elegance, finishing with lift and refinement as well as riveting, vibratory interplay and extraordinary reach. It should be exciting to plug into a bottle of it anytime over the next 15 years, if not longer. BH 94 (4/2009): Here the nose is as reserved as the Latricières and only grudgingly gives up glimpses of the spicy and earthy red pinot fruit nose that is quite cool with obvious minerality, which continues onto the textured, intense and nervy big-bodied flavors that are textured and classy with highly sophisticated tannins on the long finish. Despite the reserved character of the nose, I was very pleasantly surprised at the relative accessibility this already displays due to the ample buffering sap yet make no mistake, the '06 Bèze will successfully age for years. A knockout that is noticeably better in-bottle than it originally showed from cask. Drink 2018+. |

| BH 92-94 (4/2009): An intensely spicy red berry fruit nose is expressive to the point of exuberance while introducing the hugely rich, full, intense and broad-shouldered flavors that possess real energy and drive on the sappy, mouth coating and stunningly long full-bodied flavors that display Outstanding depth. There is a serious amount of dry extract that makes this appear less structured than it is in reality. A most impressive effort that is less mineral-driven but a bit tighter than the Chambertin, at least at this early stage. Drink 2017+. |

VM 96+ (4/2012): Bright medium red. Knockout soil-driven nose combines red cherry, cocoa powder, brown spices, dried flowers, lavender and minerals. The palate offers compelling high-pitched flavors of red fruits and flowers complemented by strong saline soil tones. Conveys a powerful impression of extract without any fat. This youthfully imploded wine magically combines power and finesse, finishing with Outstanding sappiness and thrust. It was hard to scrape this off my palate--not that I tried. WA 95 (4/2012): The 2009 Chambertin-Clos de Beze is unusually open and seductive. It flows with extraordinary finesse and pure elegance. White floral notes, cassis and spices wrap around the palate, adding tons of nuance. The firm tannins don’t quite allow the fruit to be fully expressive, but all that is needed here is time. BH 93-95 (5/2011): A strikingly complex nose features an intense spiciness to the otherwise ripe, elegant and nuanced red berry liqueur aromas that are in keeping with the equally spicy and intense broad-shouldered and tautly muscular flavors, all wrapped in a mouth coating and very firm finish that delivers stunning persistence. I like the underlying sense of tension that adds vibrancy to the moderately austere and mineral-driven finale. This should be excellent in time. Drink 2024+. |

| |
| BH 96 (4/2013): This is consistently one of Jadot's finest wines and 2010 is no different, in fact it would appear to have even greater ultimate potential than the Musigny, which isn't always the case. The spicy, ripe and exceptionally complex nose of airy, pure and cool red currant, plum and stone aromas gracefully merges into the powerful but sophisticated medium-bodied flavors that possess seemingly buckets of dry extract that almost forcefully pushes the very firm tannic spine to the background on the markedly austere, compact and very tight finish. As intense and powerful as this is, the mouth feel is almost lilting and this is a classic example of a wine exhibiting what I call power without weight. In a word, stunning but note well my suggested optimal drinking window as this will not be for the impatient. Drink 2030+. |

| BH 92 (4/2013): There is a discreet application of wood to the elegant, pure and lightly spiced nose of layered black raspberry and cassis nose that is also barely visible on the mineral-driven, intense and tension-filled medium-bodied flavors. There is excellent volume and plenty of mid-palate stuffing because while this is certainly a wine of finesse, it does not lack for character or seriously impressive persistence on the gorgeously balanced if distinctly austere finish. A wine of class and grace that will need plenty of cellar time as it has already begun to shut down. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

VM 96 (1/2018): Bright medium red. Sexy, soil-driven aromas of red cherry, raspberry, underbrush, rose petal and salty minerality; wonderfully subtle and complex. Silky on entry, then densely packed but weightless in the mid-palate, displaying outstanding inner-mouth spicy, floral lift to its intense red fruit and saline mineral flavors. A creamy, utterly seamless old-vines Chapelle with extremely refined tannins and inexorable subtle rising length. Outstanding--but will this wine shut down hard in bottle? Really captures the best qualities of the vintage without sacrificing its typicity. (Drink between 2026-2040) BH 94 (4/2018): This displays noticeable wood influence though here it's more in the form of menthol than toast though it's not so much as to materially impede the appreciation of the notably ripe red cherry and overtly floral-scented nose where ample hints of the sauvage and warm earth eventually appear. There is remarkably good concentration as the old vine sap is immediately evident whilst coating the palate and pushing the markedly firm tannic spine to the background on the powerful and intensely mineral-driven if noticeably warm finale. Despite the impressive size, weight and power this is actually more refined than usual but even so, it's going to require a very long snooze in an appropriately cool cellar. In sum, this is seriously good Chapelle. (Drink starting 2035). |

| VM 94 (3/2016): Medium red with a palish rim. Complex, soil-inflected aromas of red berries, rose petal, coffee, meat and musky underbrush. In the mouth, fine-grained raspberry, game and savory soil flavors are invigorated by notes of flowers, pepper and spices. Structured but without any hardness, this surprisingly accessible wine finishes with suave, nearly invisible tannins and a strong repeating raspberry flavor. With time in the glass, exotic notes of yellow peach and passion fruit emerged. This fascinating Clos de la Roche is less backward than some examples of this grand cru in 2013. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 92-94 (4/2017): Notes of wood and menthol combine with those of red currant, dark raspberry and plenty of earth and game scents. The velvety yet quite powerful big-bodied flavors also brim with sappy dry extract that pushes the otherwise notably firm tannic spine to the background on the built-to-age, balanced and wonderfully persistent finale. Drink 2032+. WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a voluminous and extravagant bouquet with blooms of red berry fruit, although I found myself more drawn to the complex and intellectual Clos Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. This is a masculine, assertive Clos de la Roche, quite saline in the mouth with a feisty, spicy finish. This is a fine grand cru from Louis Jadot, though not one of their top releases this vintage. VM 90-92 (1/2017): (a blend of purchased wine from two sources): Good full red. Aromas of cherry, herbs and oak show a youthfully medicinal quality. Powerful but a touch dry; this strikes me a bit energetically extracted at the expense of the vintage's potential silkiness. The medicinal menthol quality is complicated by notes of brown spices and earth, but the wine's primary fruit is very much in the background today. Finishes dry and imploded, with strong tannins. Not my favorite style of Clos de la Roche. Jadot has eight barrels of this wine, four made via a classic vinification, according to Barnier, and four using more modern, extractive techniques. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 92-93 (1/2023): The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) has turned out very well, exhibiting aromas of sweet cherries, berries, petals and spices, framed by toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, it's deep and muscular, with fine balance and a penetrating finish. This cuvée is now harvested in two picks, one week or so apart, instead of all in the same day. BH 92-94 (4/2023): An unusually perfumed nose reflects notes of red currant, earth and a vague hint of exotic spice. In the same vein as the nose, there is an unusually suave texture to the round and delicious medium-bodied flavors that brim with sappy dry extract that helps to buffer the compact, firm and sneaky long finish. This possesses fine development potential. (Drink starting 2033) VM 90-92 (1/2023): The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a rather stoic nose, with backward, light red berry fruit laced with decaying leaves that gradually unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, good density, dark berry fruit laced with orange rind and a pinch of white pepper. It misses the length and grace on the finish that a more benevolent season would bring. Fine. (Drink between 2025-2042). Neal Martin. |

| BH 94 (4/2013): ( from 90+ year old vines that are worked by horse.) A notably floral and elegant nose of ripe yet high-toned aromas of essence of red pinot fruit combines with subtle spice, game and warm earth nuances. There is a velvety mouth feel yet good precision to the wonderfully rich flavors that possess a high level of phenolic maturity before terminating in a refined, pure and delicately balanced finish. An exercise in harmony and grace that should allow it to age brilliantly yet not be completely uncivilized if you wanted to try one young. In two words, absolutely stunning. Drink 2025+. |

| BH 93-96 (4/2021): A plethora of spice nuances are present on the emphatically floral-suffused nose of red raspberry, earth and a whiff of exotic tea, all of which is trimmed in wood and menthol nuances. The plump, round and highly seductive flavors possess both good mid-palate density and a very sophisticated mouthfeel that continues onto the relatively powerful and highly persistent finale. The intrinsic class of a fine CSD is very much present and this is seriously impressive. Drink 2036+. |

| VM 91+ (3/1998): Red-ruby color. Vibrant blueberry aroma. Very large-scaled but wrapped up in its own structure today; ungiving but concentrated and strong. Really expands in the mouth. Almost painful on the very long aftertaste. This wine generally requires extended bottle aging, and 1995 appears to be a very strong vintage for this wine-clearly more impressive than the '96. | VM 94+ (2/2019): Bright medium red. Wonderfully pure, inviting nose combines strawberry, raspberry, rose petal, spices, white pepper and blood orange: I might have picked this essence of Burgundy as a Chambolle-Musigny! Plush, silky and fine-grained but tactile and substantial as well, boasting terrific energy for its vintage. (The vines benefited from the cooler temperatures and well-timed rainfall in August, which enable the wine to retain freshness, noted Frederic Barnier.) The wine's very primary red berry, spice and floral flavors display seductive sweetness but a strong element of saline minerality accentuates the overall dry impression. A great wine in the making, showing an almost peppery vibrancy today; I would not be surprised if this shut down in the bottle in the near future. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 93 (4/2019): Only a trace of wood influence frames gamy red and dark currant aromas that are liberally laced with spice and earth hints. As is usually the case, the mouth feel of the middle weight plus flavors is powerful, tautly muscular and energetic while offering excellent depth and length on the serious, markedly austere and very backward finish where touches of wood and warmth show up. While I suspect that this will be approachable after only 8 to 10 years, it will need the better part of 20 to arrive at its full potential. Drink 2034+. |

| BH 92 (6/2022): This is also really quite pretty with relatively high-toned, even perfumed, red berry fruit aromas that are trimmed in just enough earth and sauvage nuances to remind one that this is a Corton. The refinement continues onto the sleekly muscular middle weight flavors that also exude evident minerality on the moderately austere, dusty and slightly warm finale that offers both solid depth and length. This possesses fine development potential and is a wine that's going to need at least a decade first. |

| WA 93-95 (1/2024): Regularly one of the standouts of the domaine range, the 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, smoke, spices and espresso roast. Full-bodied, broad and layered, with a rich core of fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids, it concludes with a pure and expansive finish. |

| BH 87 (7/2005): An intensely earthy and expressive nose complemented by a mix of primary and secondary pinot fruit, smoke, game and underbrush blends into rich, punchy and somewhat edgy medium full flavors underpinned by prominent if not aggressive tannins that possess a slight hint of greeness to them. This is sufficiently complex that it’s attractive but at this stage it requires food to buffer the structure and I would suggest drinking this up over the next decade as it’s hard to see the fruit outlasting the tannins. In sum, this is not a success but the normally very high standards this wine regularly achieves. |

WA 91-93 (8/1998): This wine is often of grand cru quality. Medium-to-dark ruby-colored and offering lovely aromas of roses, currants, and raspberries, this wine is admirably expressive yet introverted - it's made for the long haul. It is a feminine, highly-structured, and vibrant wine filled with super-sweet red and black fruits. This focused, defined, and classy offering also possesses an extraordinarily long finish. Projected maturity: 2004-2010. VM 91-94 (4/1998): Very saturated red-ruby. Bright, sweet black raspberry and cassis nose. Very sweet and intensely flavored, but bracing acidity gives the wine great dynamism and cut. Really explosive in the mouth. Very long, vibrant finish. Grand cru quality. |

VM 94 (5/2019): The 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru (magnum) is blessed with a beautiful bouquet of kirsch, wild strawberry, crushed stone and floral aromas, perhaps closer to the essence of Clos Saint-Jacques than the 2001. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip on the entry. There is fine weight and salinity in the mouth, and plenty of substance toward the sensual but utterly harmonious finish. This will probably benefit from another two or three years in bottle, and then those patient enough to cellar it will surely be rewarded with two decades of drinking pleasure. (Drink between 2021-2040). Neal Martin. BH 93 (5/2025): A notably pretty if ripe nose features notes of spicy and still relatively primary red berries spiked with hints of leather, humus and a whiff of the sauvage. The intense, dense and full-bodied flavors brim with sappy dry extract before culminating in a stony, palate coating and driving finish that is serious, firm and beautifully persistent. This robust effort remains youthful but not unapproachable and this most recent bottle was quite civilized and showing well.. In a word, impressive. (Drink starting 2030). |

WA 94+ (10/2018): Tasted blind, Jadot's 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques confirmed the seriousness it displayed earlier this year, unwinding with aeration to reveal a youthfully reserved bouquet of sweet red fruits, raw cocoa, rich soil and dried rose petal, framed by a judicious application of cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, reserved and concentrated, with fine-grained but firm structuring tannins, tangy acids and impressive length. This Clos Saint-Jacques is shutting down, so it's all about future potential, but its showing in this tasting suggested that when all is said and done, it may well be the Clos Saint-Jacques of the vintage. VM 94 (11/2018): The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques 1er Cru has a more tightly knit bouquet than Fourrier and Brunco Clair's own Clos St.-Jacques: very pure and focused, perhaps not quite as detailed and mineral-driven as the latter, but attractive all the same. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and impressive depth, and quite grippy at the moment, if not quite delivering the details and nuance or the same mineralité as the best Clos Saint-Jacques on the finish. Yet it is still a seriously fine wine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2021-2045). Neal Martin. |

WA 92-94+ (1/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) unfurls in the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet of sweet red berries, coffee roast, raw cocoa, candied peel and cedary new wood. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with an abundance of satiny structuring tannin, juicy acids and a long, pure finish. As usual, this will require some bottle age, but it's one of the high points of the collection. BH 91-94 (4/2019): Like several of the foregoing wines, the wood and menthol-infused nose is quite firmly reduced and basically unreadable today. Otherwise there is exceptionally good richness and volume to the concentrated flavors that brim with dry extract that imparts a velvety mouth feel as well as buffers the notably firm tannic spine shaping the muscular and youthfully austere finale. This is presently not especially complex but the underlying material appears to be present such that the normal outstanding depth should gradually develop. Drink 2032+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 91-93 (1/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru clearly has the finest bouquet of seven wines that I tasted from the appellation by Jadot. It is very precise and focused, showing superb edginess and impressive terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is quite linear in style, the fruit just a little muted toward the finish, but there is fine structure and detail on this more masculine Clos Saint-Jacques than anticipated.Neal Martin.' |

BH 91-94 (4/2014): A slightly riper and more obviously animale infused nose features notes of red berries, wood, earth and plenty of humus character. There is outstanding mid-palate density to the less obviously mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess good focus and power on the impressively persistent and beautifully complex finale. This possesses a lovely sense of harmony and punch as well as very ripe supporting tannins. (Drink starting 2024). VM 91-94 (1/2014): Good bright, deep red. Red cherry, stony minerals, rose petal and a suggestion of chocolate mint on the nose; reminded me of a slightly earthier version of a Clos Saint-Jacques. Densely packed, saline and intense, with terrific energy and a restrained sweetness to the flavors of red fruits and minerals. A lovely precise, perfumed midweight with a slowly mounting finish offering a strong impression of soil character. Stephen Tanzer. |

The Cazetiers is going to be virtually impossible to resist young, but it also has more than enough depth to develop nicely in bottle for many years. Antonio Galloni. |

BH 90-93 (5/2011): This is one of the few wines to display noticeable reduction and it's enough to knock down the nose though my score assumes that this will be corrected before it is bottled. There is good richness and vibrancy to the solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract though the palate impression of the finish is still quite firm, all wrapped in a backend that delivers excellent persistence. This is a bit more rough and tumble than one typically sees from a classic Griotte though it does not display any overt rusticity. Drink 2024+. VM 90-92 (5/2011): The 2009 Griotte-Chambertin is sweet, sensual and inviting. Deceptively medium in body, the wine shows plenty of density. Flowers, cinnamon and menthol emerge in the glass as this sensual wine flows through to the finish. There is just a hint of rusticity on the close; otherwise, this is a fine, generous Burgundy. WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a deep and introspective bouquet with broody dark berry fruit, wild hedgerow and forest floor aromas that draw you in. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well judged acidity. This is linear at the moment, very nicely focused with a dash of white pepper on the finish livening things up. Very fine...but patience required. BH 91-94 (4/2015): Like the Charmes and the Griotte, Barnier said that this was not vinified by Jadot. There is a pretty and expressive nose of red currant, raspberry, wild cherry and soft sauvage hints where the latter continues onto the dense, serious and powerful big-bodied flavors that are also shaped by a very firm and slightly rustic finish that delivers excellent if not truly sensation persistence. I slightly prefer the Chapelle for its greater refinement but it's close qualitatively speaking. Note that this too will require plenty of patience. VM 90-92 (11/2014): Bright medium red. Lightly medicinal aromas of black cherry, licorice, menthol and smoke. Sweet on entry, then rather backward on the palate; has no shortage of salty stuffing but an impression of lowish acidity gives the brooding palate a slightly heavy quality. Tannins are reasonably ripe but this wine is a cipher today. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 91-94 (5/2008): A wonderfully broad nose features a panoply of red, blue and black fruit plus spicy floral aromas that are in perfect keeping with the rich, full and generous big-boned flavors blessed with ample mid-palate sap that renders the tannic structure almost invisible at present though make no mistake, there is a very firm structural spine here and will require 12 to 15 years for this to be at its full on best. | BH 91-94 (4/2012): This is also notably ripe with a pungent and highly expressive nose of cassis, menthol and wood toast where additional breadth is present in the form of wet stone and spices. The detailed and highly energetic middle weight flavors possess excellent definition and seem built on a base of firm minerality while terminating in a tension-filled, harmonious and highly persistent finish. | BH 91 (4/2013): Very discreet wood sets off exuberantly spicy aromas of plum, cassis and black raspberry liqueur. There is an ultra-sophisticated mouth feel to the silky-textured medium-bodied flavors that are blessed with so much extract that they culminate in an incredibly suave yet balanced finish that is built to age. There is a very mild touch of backend dryness that is likely due to the bottling and will probably round out in time but it does cause me to score this slightly lower than I otherwise might have. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

| VM 89-91 (1/2019): The 2017 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots 1er Cru is cut from a more elegant cloth than usual. The bouquet is nicely defined, offering perfumed dark cherry, cranberry and orange blossom aromas. The palate is crisp and well-defined on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, and quite linear and correct – toward the finish, I begin missing the sensuality and voluptuousness that I expect from this Premier Cru. Hopefully it will gain some weight once in bottle. Neal Martin. |

| BH 92-94 (6/2019): As is often the case, this is quite aromatically similar to the Pucelles though with perhaps just a touch more complexity. By contrast there is more volume to the succulent, round and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors that possess even better depth and persistence if not quite the finesse. Still, this is a lovely effort that should also be capable of extended, and graceful, aging. Drink 2027+. |

VM 93 (11/2022): Chassagne-Montrachet Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru White) The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru has quite a rich, well-defined bouquet, with a touch of white peach, dried honey and peach skin. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Harmonious with good tension and judicious use of extract that lends substance on the finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. (Drink between 2024-2040). Neal Martin. WA 92+ (4/2021): The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle (Duc de Magenta) is showing nicely from bottle, unwinding in the glass with notes of pear, crisp yellow orchard fruit, fresh apricot, pastry cream and toasted macadamia nut. This is medium to full-bodied, tangy and tightly wound, with racy acids and a phenolic finish. It should develop nicely in the cellar and once again represents one of the longer-haul propositions in the range. |

| VM 91 (10/2025): The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru does not have the mineralité or energy of Chartron's Folatières: more floral and actually more Meursault-like in style. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, lively with a touch of lemongrass and spiciness more pronounced than the Chartron, although it feels more forward and does not possess the same degree of sophistication or nuance. Still, it will drink well over the next decade, possibly more. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2026-2043). Neal Martin. |

| BH 87 (6/2022): (85% from Meursault and Puligny Bourgogne vines and the rest from declassified St. Romain and Auxey-Duresses in equal proportions). A smoky mix of apple, pear and citrus leads to solidly voluminous and intense middle weight flavors that conclude in an appealingly crisp, clean and very dry finale. This is a very good Bourgogne that should also be capable of repaying a few years of keeping if desired. Drink 2024+. |

| BH 97 (6/2022): A discreet but not invisible touch of wood sets off the notably more floral-suffused aromas of citrus confit, exotic tea, anise and white peach. The gorgeously textured large-scaled flavors possess outstanding cut and minerality that contrasts with the exceptionally dry, austere and massively long finish. This strikingly pure effort is packed with potential but note well that it's not likely to be a wine that permits early accessibility. In sum, this is a classic Chevalier in the making, but patience will absolutely be required. Drink 2032+. Don't miss! |

| BH 96 (6/2022): (from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières). This is perhaps the most floral-suffused nose in the range with its aromas of essence of pear and plenitude of spice and citrus elements. Once again, the mid-palate mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is absolutely gorgeous, which contrasts noticeably with the cuts-like-a-knife finish that remains ultra-refined, balanced and persistent. This is most impressive, particularly for the remarkably fine volume and power that is delivered with grace and class. Drink 2030+. |

VM 95-97 (12/2021): The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte Grand Cru, which was undergoing its élevage in foudres, has a very sophisticated bouquet with mineral-rich citrus fruit, hints of hazelnut and lanolin. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity. There is a little more density and concentration compared to the regular Chevalier-Montrachet and though there is a patina of oak to be subsumed, this will surely age with style. Excellent. (Readers should note that no 2021 will be produced due to frost and there will just be a tiny amount of Chevalier-Montrachet.) (Drink between 2025-2050). Neal Martin. WA 95-97 (1/2022): The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte Grand Cru is brilliant, bursting with aromas of orange oil, nutmeg, crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and peach. Full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, it's layered and multidimensional, with striking depth and intensity, concluding with a long, resonant finish. It's a brilliant wine in the making. |

| VM 95 (7/2024): The 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru has a creamy nose with touches of white chocolate, almond and chamomile. However, considering the vineyard in question, I would have liked more mineralité and terroir expression. A bit of alcoholic warmth develops in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Tightly coiled citrus fruit, orange zest and patisserie, though it doesn't fully deliver the tour de force finish you want from a "Monty". Let's see what a few years in bottle will do. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Drink between 2028-2052. |

| BH 91-93 (6/2022): A cool, pure, airy and restrained nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of essence of white orchard fruit, citrus and plethora of floral wisps. The equally pure and utterly delicious middle weight flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel while displaying very fine length on the bitter lemon-inflected finish. This lovely and understated effort should also age gracefully over the next decade. Drink 2027+. |

JM 93-95 (6/2021): Lighter lemon yellow, the bouquet offering a light touch of menthol and especially anis. Deeper generous soil here but they think they have learnt to get the best out of it. Certainly a grand cru wealth of fruit, the acidity keeps the balance very nicely, a generous warm overcoat and good length. Nice wine! BH 92-94 (10/2021): This is restrained to the point of being all but aromatically mute though aggressive swirling eventually coaxes notes of green fruit, citrus peel and oyster shell nuances to reveal themselves. There is both excellent volume and concentration to the big-bodied, powerful and imposing flavors that are focused, structured and youthfully austere. This is very much a work in progress, and I would advise allowing this at least 5 years of cellaring and it should easily reward a decade or more. VM 92-94 (10/2021): The 2020 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru comes from six hectares of vines, southwest- and south-facing, forming the two different cuvées. The bouquet unfolds to offer lovely yellow fruit and oyster leaf aromas, well defined and quite generous. The palate is taut and crisp with fine acidity and moderate depth, but very pretty and composed toward the saline finish. There is plenty of substance already in situ and I foresee this aging with class. Neal Martin. |

WA 96 (7/2022): In a sense, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots offers a resumé of several of Fèvre's grand cru bottlings, uniting the taut musculature of Valmur and the ethereal, mineral profile of Les Preuses, with some of the perfumed sensuality of Vaudésir and fleshy texture of Bougros. The result is certainly a very compelling wine, exhibiting aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, white flowers, freshly baked bread, oyster jus and white peach, followed by a full-bodied, taut and layered palate that's seamless and complete, concluding with a pungently mineral finish. It's worth a special effort to seek out, though a decade's patience is warmly advised. BH 96 (9/2022): A deft application of wood lurks in the background of the aromas cool citrus, apple, mineral reduction and ocean breeze wisps. There is an almost painful intensity to the powerful but sleek and defined medium weight plus flavors that brim with minerality on the clean, very dry and hugely long finish. This is also potentially brilliant and well-worth considering. (Drink starting 2032). VM 93 (7/2024): The 2020 Chablis Bougros Côte Bouguerots Grand Cru has a crushed stone scented bouquet. A peppermint trace comes through with aeration. The nose is controlled and citrus-fresh, and I admire the energy. The palate is poised and concentrated, and a silver thread of acidity keeps this Grand Cru tensile and focused. Bright and lightly spiced towards the finish, this fans out with style. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2025-2044). Neal Martin. |

| BH 96 (9/2022): A cool, restrained and airy nose grudgingly divulges its combination of lemon rind, green apple, quinine and acacia blossom scents that are also trimmed in discreet wood. There is again excellent volume and concentration to the powerful and muscular flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the impressively complex and hugely long finish. This is classic Les Clos in that it manages to be at once big and overtly powerful while remaining refined and classy. This is, in a word, stunning. Drink 2032+. |

WA 94 (7/2022): Bursting from the glass with aromas of vine blossom, orange zest, crisp white peach and honeycomb, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir is medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a seamless, elegantly fleshy profile and lively balancing acids. As is often the case, it's one of the more demonstrative grand cru bottlings in the range, yet its track record for longevity is impressive. BH 93 (9/2022): A discreet dollop of wood sets off the ever-so-mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, passion fruit and subtle mineral reduction wisps. There is a positively gorgeous texture to the highly refined middleweight flavors that culminate in lightly stony, focused and sneaky long finish. This could use a bit more depth though overall, it is a classic Vaudésir of lace and grace that should generously reward a decade or so of cellaring. |

VM 93-95 (12/2021): The 2020 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru is crisp and precise on the nose, just as mineral-driven as the Charmes though there is a little more flintiness here. The palate has exquisite balance and poise, citrus peel and lime, very good weight towards the finish with hazelnut and fumé notes on the long and (again) spicy finish. Excellent. Neal Martin. BH 92-94 (6/2022): While compositionally similar to the Charmes, this is notably spicier while offering a hint of exotic tea as well. The pure, energetic and strikingly textured middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract on the balanced, youthfully austere and stony finale. This impressively persistent and very stylish effort is a wine of finesse and it too should amply reward mid to perhaps even longer-term cellaring. Drink 2028+. |

| BH 91 (6/2023): Pretty and cool yet ripe aromas consist of poached pear, green apple and acacia blossom. The racy and impressively intense flavors exude evident minerality on the chiseled, bone-dry and bone-dry finale. This refined, indeed even delicate, effort is decidedly compact and quite tightly wound so at least a few years of patience should be beneficial. Worth checking out as the quality is excellent for its level. (Drink starting 2027). |

| BH 92-95 (6/2022): The more elegant nose is both cooler and more classic in style with its overtly floral-suffused aromas of apple, pear, spice and just sliced citrus. There is excellent energy and delineation to the more mineral-driven middle weight flavors that stain the palate on the impressively long and notably more complex finale. This is excellent and a wine that should repay out to a decade of keeping. Drink 2028+. |

| BH 90-92 (6/2022): A whiff of petrol can be found on the ripe aromas of white orchard fruit, especially white peach, citrus confit and a vaguely honeyed character. WA 95 (1/2023): The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly wafts from the glass with aromas of white flowers, crisp stone fruit, honeycomb, orange oil and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping palate that's racy and precise, combining the aromatic expression and textural attack characteristic of its sunny exposition with the tension and cut appropriate to this high-altitude, stony site. BH 92 (6/2023): This is aromatically quite similar to the Chez Edouard but with more prominent citrus influence. There is notably better density to the equally beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that flash excellent minerality on the solidly powerful, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finale. Like the Gravières, this should be enjoyable young but have no trouble repaying up to a decade of bottle age. (Drink starting 2028). VM 88 (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with wet pavement and limestone aromas, pinning this as an En Remilly. It just becomes a little diffuse with aeration. The palate is slightly chalky on the entry, has crisp acidity, and may be a little too sharp on the citric finish. I would also prefer more length here. I'm surprised this turned out to be Lamy, but that's blind tasting for you. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin. |

BH 89-92 (6/2022): The underlying fruit is presently masked by just enough reduction to blur the nuance. More interesting are the solidly concentrated and sappy flavors that possess even better volume before culminating in a mouth coating and unusually powerful finish that possess excellent depth and persistence for a wine at this level. Very fine quality for a villages-level Chassagne and well-worth checking out. VM 89-91 (12/2021): The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Village had been blended and fined. This is well-defined on the nose with lemon sherbet and light orange zest aromas, a very subtle mineral note that surfaces with time. The palate is well balanced with a hint of quince on the entry, quite taut and linear, plenty of freshness towards with just a very discrete pithiness. A fine Chassagne-Montrachet. Neal Martin. |

| BH 92 (1/2024): Extremely pretty aromas include those of white flowers and white fleshed fruit that is trimmed in both discreet spice and wood nuances. The wood influence is more prominent on the rich and full-bodied flavors that are blessed with ample amounts of dry extract before culminating in a relatively powerful, sappy and balanced finale. This is a classic Morgeot that could easily be enjoyed young or with up to a decade of keeping, which is what I would suggest as it's presently just a bit woody for my taste. (Drink starting 2030) |

| BH 93 (6/2024): There is a background hint of reduction though it's not enough to blur the nuances of the pretty and elegant floral, citrus and white fleshed fruit aromas that are trimmed in discreet if still perceptible oak. Here too the mouthfeel of the slightly bigger-bodied flavors is quite sleek with both good detail and minerality on the balanced, compact and impressively long finale. This is lovely and wine that should amply repay extended keeping. I would add that, much like the Morgeot, this could actually be enjoyed young or cellared for a decade plus. One difference though between this and the Morgeot is that the wood treatment here is decidedly more subtle. |

| BH 95 (9/2022): A more elegant and ultra-cool nose reveals its combination of floral, citrus zest, iodine and that briny sea water character the best examples of Chablis all seem to possess, all of which is trimmed in moderate but not invasive wood. There isn't quite the same volume on the palate as the Butteaux, but the middleweight flavors are notably more refined before terminating in a driving, chiseled and citrusy bone-dry finale. I very much like the focused power of the finish and this classy effort should also amply reward extended cellaring. Drink 2032+. |

Las Posadas Howell Mtn. Proprietary Blend |
$300 |
$275 |
2 |
|
| |
JD 98 (1/2019): The 2015 Los Posadas comes from an estate vineyard on Howell Mountain that lies at 2,000 feet in elevation, above the fog line. This singular effort has a flamboyant, mineral-laced bouquet of black and blue fruits, forest floor, camphor, chocolate, and exotic flowers, and is an incredible expression of this mountain terroir. With great, great intensity, beautiful purity of fruit, and again, this savory, mineral-driven character, it has enough tannins to warrant 2-4 years of bottle age and will keep for 4-5 decades. This cuvée is 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Cabernet Franc, 14% Petit Verdot, and the rest Merlot and Malbec. (Drink between 2021-2061). VM 97 (12/2018): The 2015 Las Posadas is dark, sensual and totally inviting. Plush fruit and silky tannins push the black plum and blackberry fruit forward. Deep and resonant on the palate, the 2015 exudes class from start to finish. Like the rest of the other Abreu 2015s, the Posadas will drink well upon release. Hints of lavender and spice meld into the pliant, inviting finish. There is so much to like here. (Drink between 2023-2040). Antonio Galloni. WA 98-100 (10/2016): Abreu is now calling his vineyard on Howell Mountain (a tract of 33 acres with 15 planted) Las Posadas, after the road high on the mountain that seems to be the Fifth Avenue of Howell Mountain vineyard sites. The seamless 2015 Las Posadas Proprietary Red nearly redefines opulence, extravagance, and intensity in its haute couture style. A candidate for perfection, the wine has notes of fruitcake, licorice, black truffle, forest floor, spring flowers, and black fruits that literally soar from the glass and continue across the palate with a cascade of earthly delights. This is a magnificent, almost chillingly perfect wine that has to be tasted to be experienced. |

Thorevilos Cabernet Sauvignon Lightly Scuffed Label |
$475 |
$375 |

| |
JD 100 (1/2019): Another perfect wine, the 2015 Thorevilos comes in at 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot, and 4% Malbec. This riveting wine boasts heavenly notes of blueberries, cassis, camphor, graphite, and forest floor, with more floral nuances developing with time in the glass. With full body, a powerful, stacked, intense profile, shocking elegance and purity, and a massive finish, hide bottles for 4-5 years if you can – count yourself lucky – and enjoy bottles for just about as long as you'd like. (Drink between 2023-2063) VM 97 (11/2025): The 2015 Thorevilos is another fabulous wine in this flight of 2015s from David Abreu and Brad Grimes. Elegant and sophisticated, the 2015 offers an intriguing mix of power and finesse. Graphite, pencil shavings and blackberry and cloves are some of the many notes that explode from the glass. What a gorgeous wine this is. (Drink between 2025-2035). Antonio Galloni. WA 99-100 (10/2016): Probably one of my favorite vineyards in all of Napa Valley, even though it is not entitled to any particular AVA designation, is the steep hillside vineyard behind the luxury resort of Meadowood in St. Helena called Thorevilos. It is co-owned by David Abreu and Ric Forman. I have now tasted 16 vintages of this wine, and six and possibly seven (the 2015) have merited perfect scores, which is just mind-boggling even to someone who has been doing this for 38+ years. This wine contains a considerable quantity of Cabernet Franc (probably 30% or more, although Abreu and Grimes are never specific) and there may even be a small percentage of Petit Verdot included in the blend. This is always the most floral of the Abreu wines, but it also has what the French call je ne sais quoi, a quality that is hard to pin down. The 2015 Thorevilos is, like its siblings, inky blue/black/purple, with incredible amounts of flamboyant, majestic blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with raspberries, spring flowers, wet rocks, truffles and foresty notes. Incredibly intense on the palate, the blueberry and graphite character seems to come forward along with a suggestion of toast. It is an amazingly viscous, thick and juicy wine, but it cuts a ballerina’s silhouette across the palate, as there is no heaviness or boredom. This is an exhilarating elixir – no doubt about it. Moreover, it is another 50-year wine. |

| VM 95 (12/2024): The 2023 Pinot Noir Park Avenue Estate is a new wine in this range. It emerges from a parcel in Sebastopol planted with Calera cuttings from UV. Black cherry, leather, incense and graphite open first, followed by lifted floral and savory notes that add character. The Park Avenue doesn't have the layers of the other Pinots, but it comes very close. This is a seriously impressive debut. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 96 (12/2024): The 2023 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard is dense, heady and explosive. The purity of the fruit is just superb. Bright red/purplish fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice and blood orange all soar from the glass. A wine of depth and textural intensity, the 2023 is just magnificent. So aromatic. Bright acids pull it all together on the finish. The UV is the most delicate and refined of the Pinots from Aubert this year. Antonio Galloni. |

|
| |
| WA 97 (6/2025): Despite GM Shae Kinsman's assertion that "it's not a black-fruit expression that comes out of this vineyard," the Bella Oaks 2022 Proprietary Red Wine offers up what I find to be generous amounts of black cherries and cassis, alongside a faint herbal note. A blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot—the blenders come from Ecotone for now, while waiting for recent plantings at Bella Oaks to come online—it's a full-bodied wine, rich and somewhere between velvety and silky, with a long, elegant finish. It shows great intensity and length, with no trace of raisining, although I would call it more dark-fruited than red. |

$475 |

|
| |
VM 98 (12/2024): The 2021 Pluribus is just as exceptional as it was from barrel. Complex, dynamic and ever-changing in the glass, the 2021 coveys tons of mountain structure. Graphite, crushed rocks, mint, spice, licorice and lavender are all laced together in a dramatic, dense wine endowed with tremendous pedigree. This site on Spring Mountain yields Cabernets loaded with character. (Drink between 2028-2041). Antonio Galloni. JD 96+ (1/2025): Usually one of the most structured wines in the lineup, the 2021 Pluribus is more medium to full-bodied and elegant, with a terrific perfume of black and blue fruits intermixed with exotic flowers, violets, and graphite nuances. It has a certain exotic edge, is beautifully balanced, has fine tannins, and a great finish. It's another seamless, elegant, very classically built Cabernet Sauvignon from this team that deserves 4-6 years of bottle age and will be long-lived. (Drink starting 2029). |

IX Estate Proprietary Blend |

$475 |

WA 99 (3/2024): Colgin's 2021 IX Estate is a rich, opulent example, with layers of ripe black cherries and dark chocolate punctuated by hints of sage and bay leaf, plus some vaguely floral notes (violets?). Full-bodied, concentrated, velvety and long, it's another terrific wine that showcases the potential of Pritchard Hill, the investment by the owners and the talent of the winemaking team. Drink between 2025-2045. JD 98+ (12/2023): I’d wager a Napa Valley legend in the making, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon IX Estate comes from the estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill, and if there was ever a classification of terroirs in the valley, this would check in near the top of the list. Deep purple-hued, with awesome aromatics of pure cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and subtle floral hints, this has that rare mix of power and elegance that defines so many great wines. Full-bodied, concentrated, and flawlessly balanced, it has no shortage of structure and is going to need 7-8 years, if not a decade, to hit full maturity, where it will hold for 2-3 decades. Drink between 2023-2031. VM 98 (12/2023): The 2021 IX Estate is such an elegant wine. Sleek, aromatic and refined, the 2021 is one of the most polished young wines I have tasted from this site. Red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal and mint abound. Silky and delineated, the 2021 is exceptionally beautiful and balanced. Clean saline notes and veins of tannin extend the explosive, sublime finish. Drink between 2027-2041. Antonio Galloni. |

Maya Proprietary Blend |
$495 |
$375 |
3 |
|
| |
JD 97 (1/2025): Moving to the 2022 Maya, it's the first year since 1989 that has this cuvée includes more Cabernet Franc than Cabernet Sauvignon. (It's 54% Cabernet Franc and 46% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 20 months in 75% new barrels.) A fabulous nose of darker currants, leafy herbs, violets, camphor, new leather, and flower notes all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a layered, polished mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a brilliant finish. VM 97 (12/2024): The 2022 Maya is a rare Maya that is Cabernet Franc-driven, the first since 1989 with a similar blend. Pliant and layered, the 2022 is sublime. Dark cherry, plum, new leather, licorice and espresso all build in the glass. A remarkable wine, Maya may very well turn out to be one of the wines of the vintage. It is certainly one of my favorites at this stage and a clear front-runner. Antonio Galloni. WA 96+ (2/2025): Dalla Valle's 2022 Maya is a blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, dominated on the nose by scents of dark chocolate and black cherries, plus vaguely leafy notions and hints of dried spices. Tannic and taut, in obvious need of cellaring, this medium to full-bodied wine's tannins are not as deep or richly textural as they can be (as in the 2021, for example), but they remain impressive; and the finish exhibits superb length. The winery's Cabernet Sauvignon is more flattering to taste now, while the Maya may surpass it in time. |

WA 93 (2/2025): Marked by scents of mountain bay, sage and black cherries, Fe's 2022 26 is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 16% Petit Verdot and 6% Malbec, all aged 20 months in approximately 75% new French oak. It's medium to full-bodied and taut yet velvety, with what seems like ample concentration, but it seems to lose impetus on the finish. I have to admit to being (just) slightly disappointed relative to the barrel sample last year. The wine was bottled in June 2024, so perhaps it was still in a bit of a funk when I tasted the bottled wine in November. VM 89 (12/2024): The 2022 26 is a soft, plummy wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Crushed flowers, pipe tobacco, leather, incense and dried flowers build nicely into the open-knit finish. (Drink between 2024-2030). Antonio Galloni. |

Life and Death Red Wine |
$100 |
$90 |

|
| |
| WA 95+ (8/2024): asted prior to its July bottling date, the 2022 White Wine Life And Death is a blend of 69.5% Chardonnay, 26.9% Roussanne and 3.6% Marsanne from the Sanford & Benedict, Bien Nacido and Stolpman Vineyards. It spent 22 months in 85% new French oak. The nose here is a striking combination of waxy and layered aromas of stone fruit, tropical fruits, bright spice tones and an undercurrent of pleasing caramel richness. The palate is lavish and quite full-bodied, displaying impressive power and polish while remaining energetic and focused. It concludes with a succulent, clean acid profile that welcomely braces its otherwise massive frame. This was very enjoyable and should be fascinating to follow through bottling into its aging curve. |

Life and Death Syrah |
$100 |
$90 |

|
| |
JD 96-99 (8/2024): Dramatically different from the Red Wine, the 2022 Syrah Life & Death reveals a slightly deeper ruby/plum hue as well as a gamey, classic Syrah perfume of blackberries, bouquet garni, ground black pepper, and smoked bacon fat. It's full-bodied, plush, has a round, sexy mouthfeel, and a blockbuster finish. VM 92-94 (8/2024): The 2022 Syrah Life and Death is another deep, resonant wine. It's the first pure Syrah for Fingers Crossed, in this case from Bien Nacido and Stolpman. Inky dark fruit, leather, spice, menthol, dried herbs and mocha fill out the layers. This dense, powerhouse Syrah hits all the right notes, but it’s a baby today. (Drink between 2024-2032). Antonio Galloni. WA 93 (8/2024): Tasted before bottling, the 2022 Syrah Life And Death is the first single-variety bottling from Fingers Crossed. It was sourced from Bien Nacido and Stolpman Vineyards, fermented with 18% whole clusters and aged for 21 months in 61% new French oak. True to the varietal makeup, the nose is darkly fruited and streaked with hints of black pepper, framed with a dusty, herbal quality that melds with touches of alcoholic heat. The palate is ripe, soft and luscious in texture, transitioning to a gritty, slightly hot finish. This was a moving target in the glass and could improve after bottling, although that back-end burn is problematic. |

WA 98 (2/2025): All Cabernet Sauvignon, Futo's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville boasts seductive scents of fine cedar and ripe cherries, beautifully complemented by cinnamon, clove and dry-earth shadings. In the mouth, it's full-bodied but not overdone, plush, velvety and long, delivering tremendous richness without any excessive weight. Complex and complete, this is the real deal. VM 95 (2/2024): The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is creamy, layered and super-finessed. All the elements are so well balanced. Red cherry/plum fruit, cedar, spice, leather, tobacco and espresso all meld together. This is another wine in the range with superb balance, albeit in the smaller-scale style of the year. VM 97 (12/2023): The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Aphex Ecotone Vineyard is a potent, dense wine. Dried herbs, spice, tobacco and earthy notes lend tons of savory nuance. This wild, structured Cabernet is going to need a number of years to come together. It shows tons of energy and depth, even if all the elements aren't totally in harmony at this stage. Nigel Kinsman has done a tremendous job in taming tannins that can be quite fierce at this site. Time in the glass is especially beneficial here. (Drink between 2027-2041). Antonio Galloni. WA 96 (7/2024): A co-ferment of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc from Ecotone Vineyard, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Aphex is dark and plummy, combining black cherries and some earthy notes with a hint of dark chocolate. It's full-bodied, concentrated and rich yet harmonious, with a degree of elegance, no excess weight on the palate and a lingering, softy tannic finish. |

VM 99 (8/2024): The 2021 No. 15 Cumulus Vineyard is a total stunner. It's also a pretty radical departure from most years in that Grenache drives the blend. That comes through in the wine's captivating aromatics and gorgeous, layered fruit. Crushed rose petal, red cherry, plum, mint, mocha and dried herbs infuse the palate with notable depth. The 2021 is flat-out stunning—that’s all there is to it. The blend is 40% Grenache, 34% Syrah, 22% Petite Sirah and 4% Petit Manseng. There's a touch of stem inclusion (7%), but not much. Drink between 2027-2041. Antonio Galloni. WA 93 (8/2024): Aged for 30 months in 53% new French oak, the 2021 Cumulus Vineyard No. 15 combines 40% Grenache, 34% Syrah, 22% Petite Sirah and 4% Petit Manseng. The nose combines towering red and black fruit aromas supplemented with herbal, citrus and tobacco accents that assemble around a perceptible core of ethanol. The palate is polished and seamless, with a bit more grace than found elsewhere in the lineup, but ultimately defined by similar luxurious, voluptuous textures and sweet-fruited concentration. The finish displays vibrant acidity and rich, swelling, fine-grained tannins but concludes with an alcohol-induced burn. The textures and overall vision on display here are to be admired, but the ultimate complexity, age-worthiness and balance are on their back foot due to the spirituous nature of much of the lineup. Drink between 2024-2030. |

JD 98 (10/2025): The 16th release of this cuvée, the 2022 No 16 Cumulus Vineyard comes all from the Cumulus Vineyard, which was planted in 2004 around the estate in Oak View. A blend of 78% Petite Sirah, 12.3% Touriga Nacional, 6.7% Mourvèdre, and 3% white varieties, it was fermented with 20% whole clusters and spent 30 months in 36% new French oak. Blackberries, roasted meats, leather, smoke, and iron nuances all flow from this beauty. Full-bodied and balanced, with a deep, layered mid-palate, it's velvety and voluptuous on the palate, with nicely integrated acidity, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This is a big, concentrated, powerful wine that's just about overflowing with character. Give bottles 3-4 years if you can and it should keep for 15+ in cold cellars. Drink 2028-2043. VM 96 (8/2025): The 2022 No. 16 Cumulus Vineyard leads the charge with a healthy proportion of Petite Sirah (78%), most of which is own-rooted, as the Krankls aim to move this cuvée away from Syrah dominance and toward a truer representation of the makeup of their home vineyard. The No. 16 is a monstrous, bombastic wine that's amplified in every dimension. Blackberry preserves, black licorice, star anise, chaparral, French vanilla and powerful peppery nuances saturate the palate with confidence and unashamed opulence. The inclusion of 20% whole clusters across the blend exalts the natural structure of Petite Sirah in a very warm, dry vintage, while the 12.3% Touriga Nacional in the blend provides propulsive, mouthwatering acidity. This could use a couple of years to integrate some of its youthful exuberance. (Drink between 2027-2042). Billy Norris. |

VM 97 (7/2025): The 2023 Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse is the most exuberant and packed of these Pinots Noirs from Peter Michael. It is also the wine that made me notice these wines when I tasted the debut 2009s prior to release. Plush contours frame a core of black cherry fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and blood orange. The French oak is already totally integrated, another sign of an important wine in the making. (Drink between 2027-2038). Antonio Galloni. WA 96 (3/2025): The 2022 Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse begins with youthful new oak spice that gives way to intense black cherry, cranberry, Earl Grey tea and wildflower aromas. The palate is concentrated yet weightless, its highly perfumed flavors structured by silky tannins and succulent acidity, and it has a long, latent finish. It will benefit from several years in the cellar. 453 cases were made. JD 96 (7/2025): From a cooler, later ripening site in Fort Ross-Seaview, the 2022 Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse is a saturated red hue and is lush with a sapid aromatic profile of cherry liqueur, crushed flowers, pine resin, and sappy herbs. Medium to full-bodied, it offers a broader structure, with ripe tannins and darker underpinnings. It’s a richly styled wine but has good clarity. Drink 2026-2046. Audrey Frick. |

WA 96+ (6/2025): A big, muscular wine, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr Crane Vineyard is loaded with black cherry fruit and graced by hints of dark chocolate and mocha. It's the last vintage to include a smidgeon of Petit Verdot (4%), a full-bodied, richly tannic but ripe effort, with a long, harmonious finish. JD 96 (1/2025): Another wine showing a fresher, juicy style, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard comes from unquestionably one of the finest vineyards in Napa Valley. This deep purple-hued effort offers a lively nose of ripe plums, chocolate, violets, and graphite, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate with fine, nicely integrated tannins, terrific overall balance, and outstanding length. It's a touch more reserved compared to the To Kalon, so give bottles a few years. It should evolve gracefully through at least 2037. |

JD 97 (1/2025): I love the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, which might be the finest 2022 from this estate. Darker berries, red plums, tobacco, incense, and chocolaty nuances all shine here, and this beauty is full-bodied, has a rich, layered mouthfeel, sweet, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It shows the early pick dates with its fresher, vibrant style yet still brings beautiful depth, richness, and concentration. It will keep for 15+ years. (Drink between 2025-2040). WA 95 (6/2025): The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard incorporates 6% Cabernet Franc into the assemblage. Complex aromas range from cedar, loam and dried spices to restrained black cherries and black olives. It's full-bodied, supple, savory and long, with a slightly tannic edge to the finish. It could be a touch more concentrated, but that's nitpicking at this quality level. VM 92 (12/2024): The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard is supple and juicy, qualities that will be best appreciated on the early side. It offers tons of forward appeal, if not quite the dimension, power of intensity of the best years. There's no way to get past the challenges of the brutal heat here. (Drink between 2025-2032). WA 98 (6/2025): A barrel selection, Realm's 2022 The Absurd boasts compelling aromas of black cherries and red raspberries. It exhibits unusual brightness and lift, while still being full-bodied and richly textured. Sure, it's slightly open-knit, but it's intense, vibrant and characterful, with delicate shadings of violets, stone fruit and spice on the lingering finish. JD 97 (1/2025): As always, the blend of the 2022 The Absurd isn't released, but it's nevertheless a selection of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon from all the sites this team works with. It's in the running for the wine of the vintage and has a deep, saturated purple hue as well as brilliant aromatics of darker currants, plums, smoke tobacco, violets, and incense, and it picks up a lively sense of minerality with time in the glass. Full-bodied, nicely concentrated, with ample mid-palate depth and ripe tannins, it's a rock solid, sure bet of a 2022 that will evolve gracefully for two decades. (Drink between 2025-2045) |

WA 96 (6/2025): Schrader's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Heritage Clone To Kalon Vineyard is based on what has become known as Clone 31, about which winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown said, "Commercially nonviable is how I'd describe it—unless you grow it, bottle it and sell it for a lot of money." Scents of black cherries, loam, dried spices and dark chocolate appear on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is silky-textured and harmonious. It's a terrific wine from a challenging vintage. JD 95 (1/2025): Red and black plums, cassis, spice oak, violets, and incense nuances all shine in the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon Vineyard Heritage Clone, a pure, concentrated, elegant To Kalon that's full-bodied, has pure, polished tannins, terrific balance, and a great finish. It's a structured, big, burly wine in 2022 that warrants 2-4 years in the cellar. It should keep through at least 2037. |

JD 95 (1/2025): Cassis, darker chocolate, lead pencil, and smoked tobacco all emerge from the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon Vineyard Monastery Block, a beautifully textured, full-bodied 2022 that has plenty of mid-palate depth, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It doesn’t get much better in the vintage, and while it has the upfront appeal of the vintage, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it evolve gracefully for upwards of two decades. (Drink between 2025-2045). WA 95 (6/2025): Comprising 48 acres planted to several varieties, Mondavi's Monastery Block gets divided up among various brands. Schrader's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Monastery Block To Kalon Vineyard offers up compelling scents of dried herbs (thyme?), cassis and perfumed violets on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is concentrated, velvety and perhaps a touch warm; the long finish adds a touch of dark chocolate. |

JD 98 (12/2025): Based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 21 months in 67% new French oak, the 2023 Black Magic represents a best barrel selection blend offering vibrant blue fruits, cassis, liquid violets, graphite, camphor, and sappy floral notes. It's incredibly concentrated, with a seamless, ultra-pure, focused mouthfeel and notable freshness and acidity in a seamless, sensational, full-bodied style. It needs 4-6 years of cellaring but will keep for 40 years. Drink 2029-2065. VM 97 (11/2025): The 2023 Black Magic is a blend from Melanson, Vine Hill Ranch and To Kalon. Sumptuous black-toned fruit, gravel, licorice, menthol and chocolate build nicely, growing into a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures that is truly captivating. It's one of the wines of the vintage at Tor. Antonio Galloni. WA 96-98 (6/2025): A barrel selection made in the winery as always, Tor's 2023 Black Magic looks to be a pretty complete, compelling example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (with perhaps a bit of Petit Verdot). There's an enticing hint of violets to the blackberries and cassis on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is concentrated, structured and firm, with a long, richly textured finish. |

WA 95 (10/2024): In effect a second wine for lots that didn't make the cut for La Proportion Dorée (but approximately 85% Sauvignon Blanc), the barrel-fermented 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Les Petits Morlet boasts plenty of expressive gooseberry aromas and ample citrus zest on the nose, but then has a full-bodied palate. Soft and expansive, it's really generous and luxurious in the mouth but balanced by a tart, lingering finish. JD 94 (6/2024): Displaying a slightly deeper yellow/straw hue, the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Les Petits Morlet is entirely Sauvignon Blanc, although it has the addition of the expressive Musqué clone, which is grown on rocky clay-loam soils. The wine is exuberant at this stage, with a more tropical fruited profile coming through on the nose, along with notes of beeswax, golden pear, white grapefruit, and saline. This continues to the palate, which is medium to full-bodied and reveals more intensity through the palate as well, with notes of melon and a ripe, rounded feel. Drink 2024-2034. 125 cases were produced. Audrey Frick. |

On the nose, intense black cherries join dark, loamy earth scents, while the medium to full-bodied palate is rich and velvety, showing admirable concentration, texture and terrific persistence on the finish. |

VM 98 (1/2022): The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon 29 Estate, 100% Cabernet, shows just how special this site in northern St. Helena planted in 1989 with Grace clone Cabernet is. Copious blackberry jam, espresso, chocolate, licorice and cloves saturate the palate. Readers will find a truly distinctive Cabernet built on aromatic intensity, huge fruit and equally potent tannins. Give it a few years to soften. (Drink between 2025-2039). Antonio Galloni. WA 97+ (3/2022): The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon 29 Estate, from the original vineyard on an east-facing slope just north of the town of St. Helena, is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 85% new French oak. It's less opulent and more classically styled than the Aida, with hints of thyme, sage and bay leaf lacing through cassis and blackberries. Full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins—but plenty of them—it's both mouthfilling and mouth-drying, with a long, gently dusty finish. Again, it could use some time in the cellar, and then it will drink well for two decades or more. |
