BH 91-93 (4/2008): A serious, backward and brooding nose reluctantly gives up hints of very earthy dark pinot fruit nuanced by a distinct animale hint that merges into broad-shouldered flavors that offer excellent volume and concentration that finishes with just a hint of dryness and plenty of minerality. The dryness should round out in time as there is no associated sense of astringency. Drink 2016+. WS 90 (5/2009): A muscular style, sporting a core of rich black cherry, blackberry and chocolate notes. It's all shored up by chewy tannins, making this tough and dry on the finish now. Needs time. Best from 2012 through 2025. 70 cases imported. VM 89-92 (4/2008): Deep ruby-red, the darkest wine in the cellar. Deep, brooding aromas of black plum, minerals and game. Broad, lush and mouthfilling; fine-grained and pliant. This boasts excellent sweetness to its flavors of dark cherry and smoked meat. Plenty of extract and soil character here. Finishes with broad, building tannins and impressive lingering sweetness. |

Charmes Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru |

WA 94 (12/2009): Pre-selection and rigorous sorting appear to have eliminated any negative impact of hail in Bachelet's 2006 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, but with the result that this virtually always intense and well-structured wine from 80 year old vines is even more so than usual. Bitter-sweet herbal, tarry, and almost liqueur-like dark berry concentrates (cassis and black raspberry) - along with low-toned roast meatiness - inform a seamless palate, softer to the touch and with a more restrained impression of acidity than the old vines village Gevrey, yet still plenty of vivacious primary fruit juiciness. Hints of sealing wax and inner-mouth perfume of peony, heliotrope, and rose add intrigue and allure. Resin, iodine, and wet stone convey a sense of depth in the lingering finish, and speaking of "lingering," the empty glass smells so sweetly fruited and floral as well as intriguingly mineral that its perfume alone will seem worth the price of admission. "I was really concerned to retain acidity here," comments Bachelet, who professes to be less than completely happy with some of his wines from the ripest vintages. "I'm looking for a wine with vivacity and equilibrium," he adds, "not a California style." He certainly got a beauty, and you would be well advised to give any bottles 3-4 years rest before following for another half dozen or more. BH 92 (1/2007): The recent bottling has caused the nose to become relatively reticent compared to the prior wines though glimpses of the beautifully complex, elegant, refined and pure red pinot and black cherry fruit aromas are visible. The sweet, supple and forward flavors possess notably good length and near perfect balance and the underlying structure on the linear and impressively well delineated finish suggests that this will improve for up to a decade, perhaps slightly longer. Drink 2014+. VM 92 (3/2009): Good red-ruby. Aromas of black cherry, violet and bitter chocolate. Very rich and sweet but less open in the mouth than on the nose, with a strong dark chocolate flavor dominating today. Finishes supple and aromatic, with ripe tannins and smoky richness. Bachelet finds this much more accessible than the 2005 at the same stage. Stephen Tanzer. |

Charmes Chambertin Tres Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru |

VM 94 (4/2007): Good deep red. Captivating aromas of dark raspberry, licorice, underbrush and truffle. Supple, silky and sweet, with uncanny depth for a wine from this vintage. Highly concentrated flavors of cherry, spice and black licorice; really fat with sweet fruit, and distinctly fruitier today than the Griottes. Broad and full but with zero heaviness. Very long finishing flavors of spice and licorice. An incredible performance in the context of the year. And structured to last. BH 92 (1/2007): Notably riper if not more elegant spicy red fruit aromas nuanced by hints of game, smoke, tea, leather and lovely violet notes framed in moderate toast levels combines with sappy, dense and naturally sweet full-bodied flavors that possess a really seductively suave texture and a supple but precise finish that is hugely long. The wood is a bit better integrated here and it's clear that this is a 2004 built to age. Drink 2014+. |

WA 88 (12/2002): While Smith Woodhouse's 2000 possesses a healthy dark ruby/purple, its muted aromatics are disappointing. Medium-bodied, with jammy fruit and moderate sweetness, this is a pleasant but one-dimensional, straightforward vintage port to drink over the next 12-15 years. |

Finn Pinot Noir |

|
WA 99 (6/2023): The 2021 Pinot Noir Finn is the crown jewel in the DuMOL portfolio this vintage, offering unparalleled perfume, length and harmony. Its aromas blossom slowly, from rhubarb, blackberry jam and pomegranate, to pure accents of licorice, iodine and Earl Grey tea. The palate explodes with concentrated flavors, underpinned by tremendous spicy accents. It has a seamless, silky mouthfeel, an ethereal support of dusty tannins and a tremendously long, floral finish that just goes on and on—it's impossible not to take another sip of this dreamy Pinot Noir! VM 96 (1/2024): The 2021 Pinot Noir Finn is a dark, imposing wine. Dark blue/blackish fruit, cloves, licorice, chocolate and lavender are all beautifully amplified in this dramatic, explosive Pinot. The 2021 offers tremendous fruit intensity and equally imposing tannic heft. Antonio Galloni. |

Finn Pinot Noir |
$125 |

|
WA 96 (7/2024): The 2022 Pinot Noir Finn comes from the Occidental Road Vineyard (40%) and Dumol's Bressay Estate Vineyard. Grapes were harvested on August 19, 22 and 24, before the Labor Day heat wave. It has singular aromas reminiscent of sweet-and-sour sauce, with initial brown sugar sparks giving way to crunchy Asian plum and wild berries, and it gains detail and expression with time in the glass. The light-bodied palate is silky and weightless. Its complex, bitters-laced flavors are backlit by bright acidity, and it has a long, detailed finish. VM 94 (1/2024): The 2022 Pinot Noir Finn is a potent, tightly-wound wine. Strong savory and mineral notes give the 2022 notable verve to play off its mid-weight personality. Crushed rocks, white pepper, slate, orange peel, mint and dried flowers are nicely delineated in this vibrant, chiseled Pinot. There's gorgeous depth and character here. Finn is a blend of fruit from Bressay (58%) and Occidental Road (42%). (Drink between 2025-2034). Antonio Galloni. |

VM 94 (8/2023): The 2021 Pinot Noir Highland Divide is another superb wine from DuMOL. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice and lavender infuse the 2021 with tons of depth and textural intensity. Layered and persistent, the Highland Divide is compelling. I loved it. Antonio Galloni. |

Ryan Pinot Noir |

|
WA 95 (7/2024): The 2022 Pinot Noir Ryan comes from the Dutton-Widdoes and Dutton-Jentoft Vineyards, and grapes were harvested August 18 and later on September 4, just before the Labor Day heat wave. It unfurls dramatically in the glass, where wild berries, conifer and violets are accented by tones of dusty earth, tobacco and mushroom. The medium-bodied palate is powerfully styled, with abundant, grainy tannins, bright acidity and a long, spicy finish. It will benefit from 3-5 years in bottle. VM 93 (1/2024): The 2022 Pinot Noir Ryan is a very pretty, delicate wine. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, mint and white pepper lend notable aromatic brightness and lift. The Ryan offers lovely precision and nuance in an understated, appealing style. Ryan is a blend of fruit from Widdoes and Jentoft, two of the most singular vineyards in Sonoma. (Drink between 2024-2032). Antonio Galloni. |

WA 89 (2/2014): Deep garnet with a hint of purple to the color, the 2012 Jester Shiraz displays pronounced nose redolent of spice cake, cinnamon stick and preserved plums with underlying blackberry compote and star anise nuances. Medium to full-bodied with plenty of warm blackberry and baking spice flavors on offer in the mouth, the flesh is nicely framed with a medium level of velvety tannins and refreshing acid. It finishes with good persistence. Drink it now to 2017+. |

RWT Shiraz |

|
WA 93 (10/2005): The Outstanding 2002 Shiraz RWT is a 100% Shiraz, single region (Barossa) offering that typically spends 14 months in a combination of two-thirds new and one-third old French oak. Expansive and rich with a broad texture, and a complex nose of white chocolate, raspberries, black cherries, and licorice, this spicy, rich, medium-bodied, elegant 2002 should drink well for 10-12 years. WS 93 (9/2005): Muted aromas, but it's generous and jazzy in the mouth. Lively, with blackberry, cherry and white pepper flavors remaining zingy through the long, harmonious finish. Hints at white chocolate as the flavors linger. Tannins are firm, but fine. Drink now through 2020. 1,625 cases imported. VM 93 (8/2005): Deep ruby. Ripe, fresh aromas of sweet cherry, blackcurrant and chocolate, accented by gentle, sexy (French) oak spice. Remarkably supple and elegant on the palate, with juicy, vibrant redcurrant and raspberry flavors, supported and enhanced by cinnamon, mace and candied violet. This has weight, structure and depth but it's also balanced, precise and suave, finishing on a bright, silky note, with polished, ripe tannins. |
