WA 95 (2/2005): The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Estate is a 2,550-case blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. It is aged 20 months in new French oak prior to bottling. This super effort comes across as a Napa version of top-flight Pauillac. Dense ruby/purple to the rim with a gorgeous nose of smoke, cedar, burning wood fires, and creme de cassis, this powerful, intensely rich, complex Cabernet reveals notions of chocolate, charcoal, and blackberry fruit. It should age effortlessly for up to 15 or more years. VM 90 (6/2005): (blended with 9% cabernet franc and 5% each petit verdot and malbec) Medium ruby. Aromas of redcurrant, tobacco, cedar, loam and menthol, with a whiff of roast coffee. Rich but dry and savory; smooth and aromatic. Subtly complex flavors of currant, lead pencil, cedar, loam and menthol. Finishes with plenty of fine tannins that will need a bit of time to unwind. |

VM 94 (1/2018): The 2015 Oakville Estate Red is terrific. Rich, sumptuous and racy to the core, the Estate Red offers up a super-appealing melange of red cherry fruit, espresso, mint, spice and new leather. This is one of more medium-bodied wines of the vintage. Soft contours and silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. The 2015 has come together very nicely over the last year. Today, the new oak (95%) is a bit evident, but that should not be an issue over time. (Drink between 2020-2030). Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96+ (1/2021): Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Samantha's was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, 68% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it slips slowly out of the glass with captivating scents of black raspberries, Morello cherries, black currant pastilles and rose oil, followed by suggestions of cedar chest, pencil lead and black olives. The full-bodied palate is charged with amazing energy, featuring vivacious red and black berry layers and a firm backbone of grainy tannins, lifted by refreshing acidity and bags of crunchy fruit on the long finish. 617 cases were made. VM 95 (1/2022): The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Samantha's is hollow, lacking in fruit and abrupt on the finish. Antonio Galloni. |
