WA 93 (10/2014): A blend of 90-95% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance tiny quantities of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, the dense purple-colored 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses sweet blackberry and cassis fruit, a deep, full-bodied, opulent, precocious, showy style, and 10 years of evolution ahead of it. VM 91 (12/2014): Buccella's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon has turned out beautifully. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, new leather and licorice meld together in a surprisingly plump, juicy wine for the year. Naturally, the 2011 is a bit lighter than most recent vintages, but the overall balance here is terrific. Winemaker Rebekah Weinburg and consultant winemaker Celia Welch have done a terrific job with their 2011. WS 90 (4/2016): Aromas of charcoal, graphite, spice, blackberry and black licorice introduce this robust effort, which trims down to a firmer expression, with fine-grain, dusty tannins. Drink now through 2024. 842 cases made. |

WA 96 (12/2016): ?This is a brilliantly packaged wine, but more importantly, what’s inside the bottle clearly matches the stylish design. A great vintage, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from Buccella, which is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot, is a stunner. Inky purple, the wine has a glorious nose of graphite and blueberry liqueur, blacker fruits and a touch of oak. Once it hits the palate this is a full-bodied wine with terrific purity, texture, a multidimensional mouthfeel and a long, long finish. Everything is in sync and perfectly aligned in this profound and spectacular 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon. Approachable now, it should continue to drink well for another 20 to 25+ years. |

VM 95 (3/2018): Buccella's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a total knock-out. In fact, the 2014 is one of the best – possibly the best – wine I have ever tasted from Buccella. Deep, ripe and intense, with striking persistence, the 2014 is delineated, precise and complete. There is plenty of the textural richness that is such a Buccella signature, but the 2014 has an extra degree of energy that balances things out. Hints of bittersweet chocolate, lavender, red cherry jam and exotic spice infuse the vibrant, sculpted finish. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 94 (12/2015): A beautiful ripe, plump, fat and opulent style of Cabernet Sauvignon that Caymus has pioneered, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has a dense purple color, loads of juicy blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, low acidity and no real evidence of oak, but a nice, plush, full-bodied opulence. This is irresistible, especially for a Cabernet Sauvignon coming in at 14.9% natural alcohol. Drink it over the next decade or more. VM 80 (1/2015): The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is dark and unctuous, with notable inner sweetness and texture that coats the palate. Blueberry syrup, brandy, prunes, cloves, mint and cola are some of the signatures. This is one of the more opulent, ripe 2013 Cabernets readers will come across. This thick, unnaturally unctuous Cabernet tastes heavily processed. |

WA 94 (12/2016): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years. WS 90 (6/2017): Supple and fruit-forward, this is designed to win broad appeal, with easygoing plum, black cherry, loamy earth and blueberry flavors, supported by vanilla bean-accented oak. Features just enough tannins to remind you of its pedigree. Drink now through 2026. 125,665 cases made. JS 88 (5/2017): Lots of raisin character with berry and vanilla flavors. Full-bodied, slightly fluid and a fruity and off-dry on the finish. Not my style but some may like it. Drink now. |

JD 92 (3/2018): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley release from Montelena has a beautiful bouquet that just jumps from the glass. Lovely notes of crème de cassis, violets, tobacco, and orange blossom all give way to a ripe, medium to full-bodied, sweetly fruited Cabernet Sauvignon that shows the charm of the 2015 front and center. It will keep for 10-15 years. VM 92 (1/2018): Montelena's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Pliant and supple, the 2015 offers notable density and raciness in an up-front style that will drink well upon release. Succulent red/purplish fruit, spice, new leather and licorice are front and center. A wine of total allure, the 2015 hits all the right spots. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 95 (12/2009): The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, which has taken on much greater complexity and intensity since I tasted it right after bottling, is largely all Cabernet Sauvignon with just a small amount of Cabernet Franc in the blend. The owner’s daughter, Beth Novak, and her assistants, Rosemary Cakebread and Jennifer Williams, made an intelligent decision in bottling this wine later than normal to resolve some of the tannin issues, and they have certainly succeeded. This wine, which I believe will evolve for 25 or more years, has a gorgeous nose of violets, black currants, licorice, camphor, and a hint of graphite. Layered, rich, and full-bodied, the wine has an opaque purple color as well as wonderful purity and balance. It could be considered the wine world’s version of haute couture at a top address in Paris. It’s a beauty, perfectly balanced and as flawless and seamless as a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa can be. Drink it over the next 25 years. WS 92 (4/2010): Drying herb, mineral and graphite join grilled meat and dried currant in this taut, tannic, structured and backward youngster. Firmly tannic and chewy, very concentrated and tightly wound. Best from 2011 through 2018. 2,743 cases made. VM 90 (6/2009): Deep ruby-red. Superripe aromas of black fruits, licorice, mocha and espresso; not currently showing the classic floral character of this wine, despite the presence of 12% cabernet franc. Big, broad, chewy and dry, with cassis and boysenberry fruit flavors currently in the background. Finishes quite tannic and a tad dry. This was bottled late, in December of '08, owing to its tannic structure and its tightness in barrel, according to winemaker Williams. (I once again scored the wonderfully fleshy yet suave 2005 estate cabernet 93 points. This wine may yet shut down in bottle but was smooth, sweet and captivating in March.) |

JS 94 (5/2014): Aromas of walnut, dark berries and blueberries. Some mint. Full body with silky, refined tannins and an orange-peel, berry and Thai-mint aftertaste. Better in a year or two but beautiful now. VM 94 (5/2013): (14.9% alcohol): Saturated bright medium ruby. Ripe, expressive nose combines blackberry, cassis, mocha, minerals, licorice, sexy oak tones and Rutherford dust. Plush, sweet and fine-grained, with firm underlying minerality giving class and clarity to the dark fruit flavors. Wonderfully silky, concentrated cabernet with a very long, building finish featuring noble tannins and noteworthy energy. It's possible to enjoy this now owing to its lush texture and sweetness but this knockout cabernet should also age gracefully. |

VM 94 (5/2022): The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has aged beautifully. It shows the intensely savory profile of the year but also has plenty of richness and texture, along with the balance to see it aged for another decade plus. I would continue to cellar the 2011, as it still has quite a bit of baby fat. Inky dark fruit, grilled herbs, chocolate menthol and pine build with a bit of time in the glass. Production was 1,500 cases, down by about 40%. I loved the 2011 when I tasted it eight years ago, and feel the exact same way today. Antonio Galloni. WA 87 (10/2013): The lean, austere 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is certainly adequate, but it suffers from some of the challenges of this irregular vintage. However, the 2009 and 2010 are among the finest wines Staglin has yet made. |

WS 90 (4/2014): Dense and powerful, rustic and tannic, offering a core of dark berry, mocha, cedar and tobacco, marked by chewy, grainy tannins that give the flavors traction. Needs time. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2015 through 2028. 1,000 cases made. WA 88 (10/2013): The 2010 Proprietary Red Episode (44% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot) is a more Pomerol-styled effort displaying a deep ruby color, lots of mocha and black cherry notes, soft tannins and a round, hedonistic appeal. This elegant, pure 2010 is ideal for drinking over the next 5-6 years. |
