WA 94 (8/2010): The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (76%) also contains 17% Merlot, 4% Carmenere, and 3% Malbec. It was aged for 22 months in a mix of new and used French oak. The nose displays herbs, olives, Asian spices, coffee/mocha, a hint of balsamic, black currant, and blackberry. This leads to a savory, intense, incipiently complex Cabernet that will benefit from 5-7 years of additional cellaring to show its full potential. It will be in its prime from 2015 to 2027. VM 92+ (12/2010): Bright, deep medium ruby. Complex nose offers cassis, mocha, minerals, licorice and menthol, lifted by pepper and herb nuances. Sweet, suave, rich and smooth but initially unforthcoming, with flavors of cassis, chocolate, herbs and licorice; a distinct minerality contributes to the wine's backward impression. The broad, long finish features strong building tannins and a serious backbone for aging. A very tricky wine: I tasted two different bottles in Walla Walla that lacked the normal verve of this bottling, but I was unable to follow them with extended aeration. This third bottle, tasted in New York, got better and better with air, becoming more harmonious and sophisticated while gaining in energy. This should be cellared for at least five or six years. WS 91 (10/2010): Firm in texture, with orange-scented red berry and red pepper flavors mingling effectively and persisting nicely against the tannins. This develops a sense of refinement on the long, medium-weight finish. Best from 2012 through 2017. 2,953 cases made. |

VM 91 (5/2020): Deep medium ruby to the rim. Musky nose melds currant, plum, tobacco leaf, milk chocolate and licorice. Fat, plush and sweet on entry, then quite full and ripe in the middle palate, with savory redcurrant, plum, spice, tobacco and mocha flavors dominating. Conveys a high-pH texture and a whiff of beefsteak tomato leavened by an herbal element. A bit unrefined, this is a plush, large-scaled 2010. Finishes with nicely buffered tannins and very good length--ready to go now! This may lose its spring if you wait too long. Stephen Tanzer. |

JD 96 (8/2021): During my visit, I was also able to taste the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, which comes from a cooler year that saw a substantial heat wave later in the year. Including 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, this full-bodied, concentrated, yet balanced and impressively textured beauty offers up loads of chocolatey dark fruits, classy oak, lead pencil, and cedar-like aromas and flavors. It has a touch of Old World vibe, as do many 2010s, yet it brings classic Napa Valley fruit and texture and is a beautiful, balanced Cabernet with another 20 years of longevity ahead of it. WA 95 (10/2013): The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc) exhibits a dense purple color, more tannin, structure and spice, terrific richness and plenty of black currant, vanillin and loamy soil characteristics. Given past track records, this full-bodied, impressive Reserve should easily age for 25-35 years. |

VM 94 (1/2024): The 2022 Chardonnay Isobel Charles Heintz Vineyard is classy and elegant from the very first taste. Pear, lime tropical fruit, mint, white pepper and passion fruit are all beautifully lifted. This translucent, expressive Chardonnay has so much to offer. Clean mineral notes extend the finish. It's a gorgeous wine from DuMOL. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 93 (8/2021): The lightly hued 2019 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast offers lots of minerality as well as terrific citrus, mint, and sappy green herb-like aromatics. These all carry over to the palate, where the wine is medium-bodied, has bright acidity, and a salty, marine-like hint on the finish. It's beautifully done and well worth seeking out. It should have 7-8 years or more of longevity, probably longer. VM 93 (1/2022): The 2019 Chardonnay is bright and sculpted in feel. Lemon peel, sage, white, flowers, mint and crushed rocks abound. This is an especially savory expression of Chardonnay. The 2019 spent 10-11 months in oak, about 20% new. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 92 (7/2022): The 2020 Chardonnay Estate is scented of baked yellow apples, beeswax and flint, with undertones of green herbs. The full-bodied palate offers concentrated, honeyed fruits, tangy acidity and a long, textural finish. JD 94+ (8/2022): The 2020 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is mineral-driven, with crushed seashell, lemon pith, and chive. The palate is fresh with white peach, ripe pear, and honeysuckle. The texture is medium-bodied, soft, and fresh, with a wonderful elegance. Drink it over the next 8-10 years.Located in Fort Ross, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, David Hirsch purchased his estate in 1978 and planted his first vines in 1980. The 2019 vintage, which was predominantly what was shown to me, marks the first vintage with his daughter, Jasmine Hirsch, taking the lead as winemaker for the estate. They have been practicing biodynamic viticulture since 2011 and were fully converted over in 2014. Their focus and attention is on the site, resulting in wines that offer elegance and purity, with transparency in regard to their sense of place. |
