| WA 93 (4/2021): Ripe, bold and soft, the Tenuta di Arceno 2017 Il Fauno di Arcanum is a hot-vintage blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Despite the difficult conditions of the vintage, which included spells of extreme heat and dryness, this wine hits an especially pretty balance that underlines the care given to preserving the best qualities of the fruit. It pours from the bottle with a darkly concentrated appearance and displays blackberry, plum, spice, tar and leather. There is softness here for sure, yet the wine's structure and carefully engineered construction is intact. |

| VM 93 (12/2015): The 2013 Barbera d'Alba is a gorgeous, super-classic wine. Medium in body, but with plenty of depth, the 2013 presents an intriguing combination of deep Barbera fruit, bright acidity and floral aromatics. Drink this beautifully layered, exquisite Barbera over the next handful of years. The 2013 is bound to put a smile on the face of this estate's many fans. (Drink between 2015-2023). | VM 86 (11/2020): The 2016 Campo alle Noci Brunello di Montalcino from Villa Poggio Salvi shows notes of pine resin, caraway and sour citrus with just a hint of dried strawberry. It’s silky and pliant in feel with a pretty display of ripe red and hints of blue fruits, maintaining thrust through zesty acids and inner spice. There’s a tug of grippy tannins here which resonate below an air of menthol and licorice. This is an interesting effort, yet the Campo alle Noci never really comes into focus. VM 95 (1/2025): The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is vividly fresh and pure, with a gorgeous bouquet of black cherries, incense, sage and a whiff of spearmint. It impresses with its purity, soft textures and vibrantly ripe red berry fruits, guided by zesty acidity and underscored by saline minerals and nuances of spice. The slightest hint of sous bois is the only tell of the 2004's 20 years as a subtle tug of residual tannins and a tinge of licorice linger. Impossible to ignore! (Drink between 2024-2030). WA 93 (6/2009): Canalicchio di Sopra’s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is an intense, full-bodied red that is simply captivating for its seamless dark fruit and superb depth. Rich, round and delicious, this racy Brunello offers plenty of dark fruit with sweet scents of licorice, leather and spices that linger on the long, refined finish. Clean notes of minerality give the wine superb balance. This is easily the most elegant, refined Brunello I have tasted yet from Canalicchio di Sopra and is one of the highlights in 2004. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022. |

The wine possesses lovely detail and clarity, in a somewhat compact, firm style. With air the wine fleshes out nicely. A final floral note gives the wine a sense of lift on the finish. | WA 90 (6/2013): The 2010 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Martina opens with vibrant dark colors and thick concentration that spreads like silk over the palate. A dusty mineral tone at the back, brimstone and pencil shavings, bring a feeling of sharpness and focus to the wine. Yet, the sheer generosity and fullness of the wine is its overriding factor. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2018. |

| VM 92 (2/2020): Massolino's 2016 Barolo is a gorgeous wine that brings together all the best qualities of the year. Bright and pliant, yet with terrific structural intensity, the 2016 is a wonderfully complete, harmonious Barolo that will delight readers for the next 15 to 20 years. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice add striking shades of nuance. Massolino's straight Barolo is a fabulous wine in its peer group. Vineyard sources include Briccolina, Collareto, Brolio and Le Turne. |

| VM 92 (4/2009): The 2004 Sagrantino di Montefalco Pagliaro is more linear than the 2005 and perhaps just a touch more advanced as well. Sweet tobacco, herb and earthiness aromas waft out of the glass followed by a perfumed coe of fruit that emerges over time. A long, refined finish rounds out the wine nicely. The 2004 is more ethereal than the 2005, but it too is quite beautiful, not to mention a terrific effort in what was a challenging vintage for this property. Interestingly, what seems to come through most in tasting the 2005 and 2004 side by side are the qualities of this vineyard first, and those of vintage second. The 2004 Pagliaro was macerated on the skins for 48 days and spent 32 months in large, neutral casks. (Drink between 2013-2019). Antonio Galloni. |

| WA 89 (5/2019): The 2012 Bolgheri Superiore Sapaio is flatter and less exciting at this time in its evolution. This Tuscan red blend shows moderate dimension, although it does deliver a good amount of black fruit, tar and spicy tobacco. There is less acidity on the close, which contributes to the one-dimensional feel of the wine. |

VM 91 (9/2021): The 2018 Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne marries the natural richness of Barbera with the intensely mineral, savory qualities that are such signatures of the wines of Asti. Crushed rocks, mint, sage, plum and ripe red cherry abound. This is a great Barbera from Asti, and maybe an even better value. (Drink between 2021-2028). Antonio Galloni.
WA 91 (7/2020): The Vietti 2018 Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne is a vibrant red wine teeming with energy and electricity. Those berry tones of cassis, cranberry and black currant pop from the glass. Primary fruit remains the focus, but that fruit is nicely framed by contours of spice and toasted nut. The grapes harvested for this wine represent a second selection from some of the same parcels that make the Barbera d'Asti La Crena. This cool-vintage expression is just lovely, informal and fun. |
