VM 89 (3/2017): Dark red cherry, plum, leather, spice and tobacco are all pushed forward in the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Bear Point. Drink this attractive Cabernet over the next handful of years. Antonio galloni. WA 93+ (12/2017): Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Bear Point Vineyard opens with compelling savory notes of smoked meats, truffles and black olives over crushed black cherries, plums and black berries with a touch of bay leaves. Medium-bodied with plenty of juicy black and red fruit supported by ripe, grainy tannins and compelling freshness, it finishes long and earthy. 403 cases were made. |

WA 92+ (2/2011): A similar situation exists with the Cabernet Sauvignons. They are all 100% Cabernet Sauvignons made in 200-case lots, with the exception of the Monument Ridge, and all are aged 18 months in French oak of which 70% is new. There are just too many similarities between them even though they come from various elevations (ranging from 500 feet to as high as 2,400 feet). All the Cabernets are dense, tannic and full-bodied with impressive levels of richness, minerality and blue and black fruits. My favorites include the Christopher’s, Bear Point, Rockfall, and Cougar Ridge. Interestingly, the Monument Ridge and Monolith tasted more tannic, closed and difficult to evaluate. These are big, concentrated Cabernet Sauvignons and even though some of the vineyards are separated by as much as five miles, there is an overall similarity that comes from this Alexander Mountain Estate despite the various elevations and expositions. Perhaps 15-25 years of aging will confirm Jess Jackson’s belief that they are different. That being said, they are all high quality, promising Cabernets that should still be drinking well in 25-30 years. VM 93 (5/2011): Bright medium ruby. Vibrant aromas of cassis, black cherry, licorice and bitter chocolate are lifted by a piquant note of orange peel. Juicy, perfumed and penetrating, with lovely definition and energy to its pure dark fruit flavors. Finishes with dusty, broad tannins and a hint of youthful austerity. A splendid showing, but lay it down. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 92 (2/2016): The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Christopher's, Stonestreet's top pure Cabernet, is deep, powerful and concentrated, but also dominated by the 75% new oak. Mocha, torrefaction, leather, smoke, menthol and blueberry jam meld into the opulent, explosive finish. It's a shame to see the pedigree of this site so obscured by excessive oak. Antonio Galloni. WA 95+ (10/2016): A 50-year wine named after Jess Jackson’s son Christopher, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Christopher’s Vineyard comes from a more north-facing site on red volcanic soils with high concentrations of slate and iron, planted in 1986. The resulting wine displays loads of blueberry and blackberry fruit, wet, gravelly rocks, some graphite, a full-bodied, mouthfeel, huge, massive fruit and extract, and a long, juicy but substantial finish of close to a minute, with plenty of tannin. Forget this wine for 5-7 years and drink it over the following 50+ years. |

WS 93 (7/1999): Openly ripe and fruity, with complex aromas and flavors. The texture is smooth and polished, giving the core of currant, cherry, coffee, cedar and spice a gentle ride until the finish, where the tannins firm up. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2002 through 2008. 4,700 cases made. VM 92 (6/1999): Good deep red-ruby. Enticing aromas of raspberry, plum, nutty oak and game; offers a Burgundian tang. Lush, silky and layered; has the intensity and concentration to wear its acids and tannins gracefully. Finishes very long; the even tannins coat the entire mouth. An excellent '96. WA 90 (1/2000): The 1996 Legacy, a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 17% Cabernet Franc, exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color in addition to a toasty nose, chocolate, black currants, lead pencil, and smoke. Full-bodied, with high tannin, this pure, concentrated wine needs another 2-3 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020. |

JD 96+ (6/2018): Crème de cassis, cedarwood, graphite, and crushed violets all define the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Monolith, which is medium-bodied, concentrated, and moderately tannic on the palate. It’s nicely balanced and certainly promising, but I wouldn't open bottles for at least 4-5 years. This cuvée comes from vines planted in 1989 and spent 20 months in just under 50% new French oak. 257 cases. Stonestreet falls under the Jackson Family umbrella and focuses on higher elevation, mountain sites. The wines, made by Lisa Valtenbergs, are rock-solid across the board. VM 92 (7/2018): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Monolith is powerful, deep and concentrated. There is no shortage of intensity in the 2015, but the chunky, big tannins do convey and impression of wildness and rusticity. Aside from living up to its name, the 2015 is also very young. It will be interesting to see what a bit more bottle age adds. Antonio Galloni. WA 93+ (2/2019): Made of 100% Cabernet aged 20 months in 47% new French oak, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Monolith opens with bold notions of black cherry preserves, black raspberries, blackcurrant cordial and mocha with hints of tar, licorice, wild sage and cedar chest. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated and built like a brick house with firm, grainy tannins and great freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long and earthy. |

VM 91 (5/2013): Good bright ruby-red. Brooding aromas of blueberry, cassis and crushed stone. Deep and surprisingly sweet, offering rich, nicely delineated flavors of cassis, plum syrup and licorice. Finishes with suave dusty tannins and excellent mineral-driven length. Stephen Tanzer. |

JD 95 (6/2018): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Rockfall comes from another steep mountain site and vines planted in 2002. It spent 20 months in 60% new French oak. Black raspberries, crème de cassis, spice box, bay leaf, and dried flower notes all flow to a full-bodied, rounded, beautifully concentrated wine that has building tannin, nicely integrated acidity, and tons of minerality and dried earth character on the palate. Stonestreet falls under the Jackson Family umbrella and focuses on higher elevation, mountain sites. The wines, made by Lisa Valtenbergs, are rock-solid across the board. VM 95 (7/2018): Stonestreet's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Rockfall Vineyard is dense, powerful and creamy, with more than enough depth to fill out its frame. Inky red and blue stone fruit, leather, lavender, licorice and smoke are some of the signatures. Above all else, though, the Rockfall stands out for its textural richness and resonance. Antonio Galloni. WA 95+ (2/2019): Composed of 100% Cabernet aged 20 months in 60% new French oak, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Rockfall Vineyard opens a little youthfully reticent, soon giving way to notions of black and red currants, wild blueberries and wild thyme with touches of cigar box, tilled soil, black truffles and camphor. Medium to full-bodied, it is very taut, muscular and firmly structured in the mouth with a rock-solid grainy texture and tons of freshness supporting the densely packed black fruit, finishing long and earthy. 534 cases produced. |
