BH 91-94 (6/2017): A distinctly ripe yet still attractively fresh nose is composed by notes of pear, acacia blossom, citrus and brioche hints. There is both excellent volume and power to the subtly stony big-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract while delivering outstanding length on the reasonably well-balanced finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is extremely primary and is going to require at least some cellaring. (Drink starting 2023) |

VM 99 (3/2019): The 1990 Vouvray Moelleux Goutte d'Or was picked at the end of October in one sweep through the vines. It underwent no triage and only light pressing, and probably contains around 170gm/L of residual sugar (I have no exact figure). Iridescent in the glass, it shows disarming purity on the nose, offering fragrant, exquisitely defined scents of quince, elderflower, caramelized pear and white peach. The palate is effortlessly balanced and precise, and again, ineffably pure, maintaining astonishing tension from start to slightly viscous finish. Hints of fig linger tantalizingly on the aftertaste. To be honest, this Vouvray verges on faultless and is a magnificent achievement. (Drink between 2019-2050). Neal Martin. |

VM 98+ (2/2020): Maria Teresa Mascarello made one of the wines of the vintage in 2016. Her 2016 Barolo is soft and sensual, but also quite hushed - as many wines are in this vintage in the early going. Medium in body with silky tannins and exceptional balance, the 2016 has so much to offer, but it is also going to require quite a bit of time to be at its very best. Just after bottling, the 2016 was more generous and rich, but it is decidedly closed today. I wouldn't dream of touching a bottle before age ten, and even that will be early for a super-classic Barolo. Rose petal, mint, crushed flowers, anise and blood orange develop with time in the glass, but the 2016 is a Barolo for readers who can afford to be patient. Antonio Galloni. |

Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe (3.0 L) |

VM 95+ (2/2022): The 2016 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is a powerhouse. Huge swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit in a brooding, almost somber Barolo that demands patience. Hints of licorice, spice, leather, menthol, incense and black cherry fruit begin to emerge with time in the glass. I won’t be surprised if the 2016 turns out even better than this note suggests. There is a ton of potential here. I find the combination of power and translucent energy both evocative and quite promising. Antonio Galloni. |

Barolo Tre Tine Scuffed Label |

WS 94 (12/2015): This silky and alluring red boasts flavors of rose, raspberry and strawberry, backed by firm, refined tannins. This is an elegant wine that remains long and focused on the aftertaste, where the fruit echoes and a mineral element emerges. Best from 2018 through 2032. 750 cases made. VM 93 (3/2015): Rinaldi's 2011 Barolo Tre Tine is super-expressive and gorgeous today. Dark red cherry, plum, cloves, new leather, rose petal and mint notes are all wonderfully alive and delineated. The Tre Tine is a blend of fruit from Ravera, Cannubi-San Lorenzo and Le Coste, all in the town of Barolo. In the warm 2011 vintage, the significant presence of fruit from Ravera, a high-altitude site, gives the Tre Tine its sense of freshness and linear energy. The Brunate is a bit richer and creamier, but today, I have a slight preference for the Tre Tine, as it is fresher, more vibrant and better balanced, at least today. Best of all, the 2011 will drink well with minimal cellaring. WA 92 (6/2015): The pretty 2011 Barolo Tre Tine shows elegance, fullness and cheerful generosity of fruit. The wine represents a blend of Nebbiolo harvested from the Cannubi S. Lorenzo, Ravera and Le Coste vineyards. Cherry and blackberry aromas rise to the front with lingering tones of smoke, crushed granite and licorice at the back. Barolo Tre Tine shows silky but firm tannins and balanced acidity. This classic style will last long in your cellar. |

VM 94 (2/2022): The 2019 Barbaresco Albesani captures all the breadth and resonance that is such a signature of this famous hillside site in Neive. Red/purplish fruit, spice, rose petal, lavender, menthol and licorice build with a bit of time in the glass. Bright acids and lively tannins add energy to this super-classic, inviting Barbaresco from Massolino. The 2019 is a dream, not to mention a superb debut. (Drink between 2027-2039) |

To Kalon Vyd. Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon |
$145 |

|
JD 96+ (1/2019): The flagship 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a more long-term effort yet is loaded with potential. Coming all from Mondavi’s To Kalon holdings and seeing an extended maceration and 18 months in new oak, its deep purple color is followed by rocking notes of blackberries, black cherries, smoke tobacco, black licorice, and crushed rocks. With a terrific sense of minerality, subtle background oak, full body, and impeccable balance, hide bottles for 4-5 years and this beauty will cruise for 3 decades or so. (Drink between 2023-2053). VM 94 (12/2018): The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is dense, powerful and explosive, with serious concentration and tannic heft. Readers should not be in a rush to open the 2016, as it needs time to come into its own. There is plenty to admire and look forward to in this decidedly virile, potent Cabernet Sauvignon. (Drink between 2022-2036). Antonio Galloni. |
