Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Feusselottes |
$259 |

BH 91 (1/2010): A ripe and agreeably fresh aromatic profile of high-toned red berry fruit aromas and subtle mineral tones that continue onto the naturally sweet, round and lightly stony flavors that offer good volume and a seductive mouth feel as the sap buffers the supporting structure on the balanced, long, linear and mouth coating finish. This stylish effort is a classically-styled Chambolle and should offer 6 to 8 years of upside development potential. Drink 2015+. Outstanding! VM 90+ (4/2010): Medium red. Reticent raspberry and cherry aromas. Tightly wound and not particularly sweet but with lovely energy and grip to its precise red berry and crushed stone flavors. Even less evolved than the Chaignots: this fresh, primary wine needs time to unwind and evolve. WA 90 (6/2010): Ginger, blond tobacco, and cooked red raspberry in the alluring nose of the Mugnerets’ 2007 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes lead to a juicy, well-concentrated, spice- and invigoratingly salt-tinged palate performance. Strong tannins well-up and along with a crushed stone undertow drag down the fruit just a bit in the finish. There is fascinating complexity here, though, and I would simply plan to enjoy this over the next 4-6 years, pairing it with dishes that will flatter or appreciate its spice and salinity. |

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Feusselottes |
$259 |
2 |
VM 93+ (5/2011): The 2008 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes is notable for many outstanding qualities, starting with its totally striking, captivating bouquet. Firm yet elegant tannins frame the fruit in this hugely promising yet very young wine. The balance is simply first-class, suggesting the future is very bright. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. BH 91 (11/2014): A notably floral and wonderfully fresh nose features notes of high-toned essence of red pinot fruit, wet stone and lovely spice elements. There is a cool and precise mouth feel to the mineral-inflected, intense and refined medium weight flavors that possess fine depth on the balanced, lingering and punchy finish. While this could be drunk now with pleasure there is still plenty of upside development potential left and I would be inclined to let this very Chambollesque effort rest for at least another 3 years first. In a word, lovely. Try from 2020+. |

Ruchottes Chambertin Grand Cru |
$499 |
2 |
VM 92+ (3/2010): Good medium red. Nuanced nose combines pungent red berries, flowers and smoke. Juicy, energetic and sharply delineated, with almost magical cut and penetration for the year thanks to firm acids and pronounced minerality. Finishes long and vibrant, with plenty of sweet fruit to cover the firm tannins. I would never have picked this blind as a 2007. WA 92 (6/2010): Game; myriad lightly-cooked red fruits; caramelized, roasted root vegetables; and crushed stone dust render the nose and palate of the Mugnerets’ 2007 Ruchottes-Chambertin impressively complex, with ample primary fruit juiciness as well as saliva-inducing salinity helping the finish surmount slightly granular underlying tannins. This should prove profoundly satisfying over at least the next 8-10 years. BH 91 (1/2010): (from 55+ year old vines.) A background application of wood highlights a similar, if slightly riper, nose that also conveys a subtle trace of truffle that introduces bigger, richer and more powerful flavors with even more evident minerality and much better length. The two wines, as they should be, are quite similar save for the fact that here there is just a bit more of everything good, including firmer and more prominent tannins. Lovely and very Ruchottes in character. Drink 2015+. |

Dom. Georges Roumier |
2008 |
Chambolle Musigny |
$189 |
2 |
WA 90 (6/2010): Roumier's 2008 Chambolle-Musigny - tasted soon after its January bottling - is scented with fresh cherry, its pits, and red currant in a manner that presages its brightness and piquancy on the palate. Forest floor and clean meaty elements as well as hints of cinnamon and nutmeg emerge as this opens to the air, all nicely complimenting the wine's fresh fruit edge, as does its incipiently silken texture. This finishes long and vibrant, with alluring spice and pure fruit. I would plan to enjoy it over the next half dozen years. VM 89 (4/2011): Good medium red. Pungent aromas of red berries, spices and underbrush, lifted by a floral nuance. Precise and juicy in the mouth, with lovely lift and strong floral character to the strawberry and raspberry flavors. Finishes with bright acidity and lovely length. Quite accessible today: Roumier believes the 2008s will never totally shut down. Stephen Tanzer. WS 89 (12/2011): Offering a vibrant mouthful of strawberry and raspberry, this red is racy and focused. There's an intensity to the wine, and the acidity drives the long, spice-tinged finish. Best from 2012 through 2020. 130 cases imported. BH 88 (1/2011): (contains some premier cru juice from Fuées). A high-toned, perfumed and very fresh red pinot fruit nose introduces precise medium-bodied flavors that are well-detailed, pure and very Chambolle in basic character and offer a discreet touch of minerality on the supple but solidly complex finish. A lovely, forward and understated villages. |

Chambolle Musigny |
$235 |
3 |
BH 90 (1/2012): (contains some premier cru juice from Fuées). This is also quite fresh and bright if not quite as ripe with high-toned and very Chambolle-like red berry fruit and wet stone aromas that lead to lacy, pure and refined middle weight flavors that are the epitome of finesse and harmony. This is not only a lovely villages but it's also one that is less obviously marked by the vintage. Excellent and this too is recommended. Drink 2015+. Outstanding! WA 90 (4/2012): The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny comes across as quite ripe and racy next to the 2010. Flowers, sweet spices and licorice add lovely complexity to the super-ripe dark red fruit. The Chambolle impresses for its balance and soft, inviting finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. VM 90 (4/2012): Medium red. Ripe raspberry and chocolate on the nose and palate. Plush, pliant and sweet; wonderfully full, seamless and creamy for village wine. Finishes with smooth, chocolatey tannins and excellent length. Christophe Roumier compared his 2009s to his 1990s, saying that he believed the wines would "build up new flavors with aging." He told me that he wouldn't broach even this village offering for a few years. WS 90 (6/2012): A delicate, silky red, evoking floral, strawberry and raspberry flavors. There's just enough structure to keep this focused and long, with refined tannins on the finish. Drink now through 2020. 240 cases imported. |

VM 90 (4/2011): (bottled in April of 2010): Medium red. Cool aromas of cherry liqueur and crushed stone. Sweet on entry, then focused and penetrating, with savory, saline soil tones currently dominating primary fruits. Finishes structured and long. Quite closed today and in need of four or five years of cellaring. BH 88 (1/2011): An airy, expressive and transparent nose of spicy red berry and floral hints leads to seductive light to middle weight flavors that possess a lacy mouth feel though the tension-filled finish is linear and vibrant. This is light on its feet but does not lack for punch or flavor authority. Drink 2014+. |

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses |
$425 |
1 |
BH 93-95 (5/2011): (A stunningly broad, even kaleidoscopic nose displays a gorgeous spiciness to the violet, cassis and plum aromas that complement to perfection the extremely rich yet admirably precise mineral-driven flavors that brim with dry extract and culminate in an elegant, pure and driving finish. This beautifully balanced and extremely stylish effort is a classic Amoureuses. Buy it. Drink 2021+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 93+ (5/2011): The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses is wonderfully sweet, centered and polished. Silky tannins grace the palate as this exquisite wine opens up in the glass. The finish remains long, sweet and totally impeccable. The Amoureuses is always one of my favorites here, and the 2009 is gorgeous. Drouhin used 30% whole clusters. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. VM 93 (1/2011): Medium red with a palish rim. Wonderfully floral on the nose, with captivating aromas of red raspberry, cherry, white pepper and rose. Silky and complex on entry, with a strong crushed stone character, then taut and vibrant in the middle, with terrific definition for the year. Finishes very long and lively. This really transcends the vintage. |

Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Scuffed Label |
$239 |
2 |
WA 95 (4/2012): The 2009 Bonnes-Mares is another wine that is showing very little of its potential today. Black cherries, cassis, licorice, graphite and spices are some of the many notes that emerge from this powerful, super-intense Burgundy. The finish turns implosive and incredibly mineral. This, too, should be a jewel when it awakens from its current state of dormancy. The 2009 is at once sensual yet powerful. In other words, it captures the nuance, complexity and pedigree of this site to the maximum. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. VM 95 (4/2012): The 2009 Bonnes-Mares is another wine that is showing very little of its potential today. Black cherries, cassis, licorice, graphite and spices are some of the many notes that emerge from this powerful, super-intense wine. The finish turns implosive and incredibly mineral. This, too, should be a jewel when it awakens from its current state of dormancy. The 2009 is at once sensual yet powerful. In other words, it captures the nuance, complexity and pedigree of this site to the maximum. Antonio Galloni. WS 93 (6/2012): An opulent, powerful red, permeated with cherry, strawberry and mineral flavors, all supported by dense tannins. It's the tannins that leave an impression on the finish, but not in a drying sense. An element of sweet fruit remains. Monolithic now. Best from 2016 through 2035. 80 cases imported. BH 93 (4/2012): Here the notably ripe nose offers up liqueur-like dark berry fruit aromas that leads to big, rich and overtly bold and still compact large-scaled flavors that evidence obvious muscle and power before culminating in a very firm, intense, explosive and driving finish that delivers outstanding length. This is a formidable wine with dense and mouth coating tannins that will require at least 15 years to fully resolve and 20 would not surprise me. Note that unlike some of these '09s, this is very definitely not for early consumption as it is presently almost aggressively austere. Drink 2024+. |

Vosne Romanee |
$95 |
11 |
VM 90 (4/2011): Bright medium red. Redcurrant, flowers, spices, orange zest and white pepper on the scented nose. Not a fleshy style but juicy and nicely delineated, with the orange note providing inner-palate lift. Still tight but finishes with nice subtle length. The energy of this excellent village wine really wakes up the palate. Marie-Christine Mugneret noted that the estate's 2008s began with very high levels of malic acidity and finished with very low pHs in the 3.25 to 3.33 range. The 2009s will be pleasurable young, she went on, but the 2008s will be to drink later. WA 89 (5/2011): The 2008 Vosne-Romanee opens with a huge, deep bouquet. It is a surprisingly rich, textured wine at this level, with gorgeous harmony and plenty of textured fruit that flows through to the weightless finish. This is a fabulous villages. The Vosne-Romanee is a blend of three parcels. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2023. BH 88 (1/2011): (from 5 different parcels located in La Columbière, Champs Goudins and Le Pré de la Folie, which are contiguous vineyards located below the village and above the Route Nationale0: An attractively spicy and fresh nose of dried berries and damp earth aromas leads to rich, delicious and energetic flavors that possess a mouth coating and seductive texture, all wrapped in a precise, balanced and long finish. Again, solid if not exceptional quality for its level. Drink 2014+. |

Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchere |
$165 |
3 |
BH 93 (6/2012): (from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières). This is slightly riper and notably more complex than the straight Puligny villages but the aromatic composition is similar save for the trace of mineral reduction that is present here. The racy, intense and strikingly well-delineated flavors possess that really lovely sense of underlying tension that adds lift to the stony, linear and bone dry finish. This is a knockout. Drink 2018+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 92-95 (10/2011): Complex, ripe aromas of peach, smoke, minerals and hazelnut. Supple, sweet and generous; already wonderfully pliant and round. With its combination of gentle acidity and quiet force, this stylish premier cru will offer terrific early charm but also age well. Finishes suave, sweet and very long. WA 92 (8/2012): Another striking wine, the 2010 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchere comes across as resonant and earthy. The sheer richness of the fruit is striking. Hints of anise, spices and mint emerge with time in the glass, adding complexity. This is, at times, a deceptively mid-weight Puligny, but it has enough stuffing to drink well for a number of years. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. |

WS 94 (12/2015): Bright and graceful, this seamlessly knits a subtle streak of smoke-tinged minerality with flavors of almond financier, poached pear, candied kumquat and crème de cassis, focused by vibrant acidity and a refined, creamy mousse. Disgorged January 2014. Drink now through 2030. JS 94 (10/2016): The Grande Dame is looking bright, gently complex and a little spicy in 2006 where the grapefruit citrus is a strong influence on the nose, showing sweet florals, a little honeyed nougat and almond paste. The palate's bright and crisp and really has an air of fleshy depth and refinement. There's also a great warm, toasty finish that displays grilled hazelnuts. Great now through to to 2020 and beyond. WA 94 (6/2016): The prestigious 2006 La Grande Dame is made from 47% Chardonnay and 53% Pinot Noir, and assembles the fruit of eight grand cru villages. Very intense and complex on the nose, this is a full-bodied, round, rich and mouth-filling, but also refined prestige cuvée; it reveals a fascinating purity, precision and freshness. The finish is long and complex, and shows a spicy minerality. There are coffee beans, bread and toast aromas in the aftertaste. This comes highly recommended. |

VM 93 (1/2007): Pale golden yellow.Sumptuous aromas of papaya, spiced apple and mint oil waft over the raisiny botrytis tones. Impressively rich and creamy, with glazed exotic fruits leavened by invigorating slate minerality. In spite of its honeyed quality, this wine is finely balanced and unbelievably long. As was the case last year, one of the finest spatleses of the vintage. Joel B. Payne |

WA 88 (3/2015): The 2012 Pinot Noir Signature was picked September 28 - October 14 and comes from the Revana Vineyard in the Dundee Hills. Matured in 38% new oak, it has a ripe blackberry and dark plum bouquet that is quite upfront and bold, but manages to maintain its delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with candied black and red berry fruit, boysenberry jam and a powdery finish that is just a little dry for my liking. Not bad overall though. |

The Coast Pinot Noir |
$120 |

WA 95 (12/2014): For the 2012 Pinot Noir The Coast, the winemaking team went for muscle, structure and density with the Calera, Mt. Eden and Swan clones. It exhibits a dense ruby/purple-tinged color as well as a sweet bouquet of raspberries, black cherries, earth and spring flowers. Juicy and succulent with a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and terrific acids buttressing and giving delineation to this complex Pinot, it will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age, will hit its peak in 5-10 years, and last for 12-15. This is a heck-of-a debut offering from Carol and Fred Schrader. VM 94 (1/2015): The 2012 Pinot Noir The Coast is terrific. Ripe, juicy and explosive to the core, the 2012 blossoms with notable depth and texture, all beautifully balanced by the salinity and structure of the coast. The style is bold, ripe and exuberant, with all the elements very nicely balanced. This sumptuous Pinot is going to offer a wide window of fabulous drinking pretty much upon release. |

Nicely concentrated for the vintage, finishing with excellent clarity and silky, harmonious, slowly building tannins. Josh Raynolds. |

VM 91+ (5/2014): Good full red. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of red berries, blood orange, spices and white pepper, along with an exhilarating citrussy element. Dense, sappy and quite dry, with red berry, cherry and spice flavors complicated by a hint of exotic flowers. This highly perfumed, tactile pinot noir needs a year or so in bottle to absorb its firm edge of acidity. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 93 (2/2014): The 2012 Pinot Noir Peay Vineyard shows the wilder side of the true Sonoma Coast in its dark red cherry/plum fruit. Smoke, tobacco, leather and licorice appear later, adding further dimensions of complexity. This is one of the more powerful, brooding Pinots in the Failla range. I would give the 2012 another year or two in bottle, but imagine it will always remain a bit of a brute. Antonio Galloni. |
