WA 90-92 (8/2011): The 2009 Roussanne comes across as quite rich and textured, with plenty of overt fruit, but less aromatic complexity and overall minerality. The vintage was the third in a series of drought years and the low - perhaps excessively low - yields are felt in the weight of the wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. |

VM 91 (7/2014): The 2009 Chardonnay Sierra Madre is an addition to the range. Orange jam, mint, flowers, sweet spices and honey meld together in a soft, racy Chardonnay with lovely complexity gained from 34 months in oak. Hints of butter and pastry add nuance on the finish. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 95 (2/2012): The 2009 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard comes across as rich, round and layered. Dried apricots, peaches, flowers and tangerine are some of the notes that flow from this sumptuous, well-spoken Chardonnay. The wine turns more and more delicate with time in the glass. I loved it. This is a great showing from Mark Aubert. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. |

WS 96 (12/2011): A rich yet subtle style that serves up bold fig, honeydew, apricot and savory flavors that are full-bodied and tapered, at points both silky and minerally, ending with a fabulous burst of fruit. Drink now through 2018. 1,553 cases made. WA 95 (2/2012): The 2009 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard is precise and articulate, all nuance and detail. Here the aromas and flavors are all beautifully sculpted from start to finish. The wine blossoms with time in the glass, showing quite a bit of power while maintaining significant freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. |

Lauren Sonoma Coast Chardonnay |
$125 |

WA 95 (2/2012): The 2009 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard is one of the more understated wines in this lineup. It also shows a bit more freshness and brightness than the other 2009s. Tangerine, mint, light floral honey and spices are all beautifully layered into the detailed, nuanced finish. The French oak is better balanced here than in the Reuling, which allows the fruit to show the fullest breadth of its personality. Here, too, the finish seems to expand in every direction. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. WS 95 (12/2011): Ultrarich and deeply concentrated, this is intense, persistent and graceful, with layers of ripe fig, honeydew melon, anise, sage and melted black licorice. Gets more complex and interesting with every sip. Best from 2012 through 2020. 959 cases made. |

WS 95 (12/2011): Firm, tight and concentrated, with a beam of ripe pear, anise, honeydew melon, brioche and nutmeg flavors. Firms nicely, unfolding with layers of complexity. Drink now through 2018. 411 cases made. WA 94 (2/2012): The 2009 Chardonnay Reuling Vineyard is the biggest and richest of these 2009 Chardonnays. Pastry crust, spices, tangerine and dried apricot are all woven together beautifully in this large-scaled, expressive Chardonnay. Aubert used 100% new barrels here, which comes through ever so slightly in the texture of the fruit. An exuberant, explosive finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. |

VM 92 (11/2012): (67% sauvignon blanc and 33% semillon): Pale yellow. Deep, powerful aromas of pear skin, melon, green almond and smoky lees, with a bright mineral topnote. At once rich and energetic, offering zesty lemon pith and orchard fruit flavors complicated by anise and honeysuckle. Closes on a refreshingly bitter note, with strong thrust and lingering citrus and herbal character. Josh Raynolds. |

Alpine Vyd. Chardonnay |

VM 94 (6/2011): Vivid yellow. Musky aromas of chamomile, pear skin, anise and iodine, with suave floral and gingerbread notes emerging with aeration. Juicy and broad on entry, then a bit tighter in the middle, offering densely packed orchard fruit flavors and notes of smoke and honeysuckle. More powerful than the Horseshoe but no less animated. This complex and tactile chardonnay boasts an intriguing interplay of ripe fruit and energetic spices. Finishes on a gently smoky note, with excellent persistence. WA 93 (8/2011): The 2009 Chardonnay Alpine Vineyard is the most vibrant, mineral-laced of these 2009 Chardonnays. Clean, mineral notes frame the fruit all the way through to the vibrant, pointed finish. This is a terrific effort from Rhys. Bright citrus and crushed rocks frame the finish. The 2007, which I tasted alongside it, has aged gracefully. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. |

VM 90 (6/2011): (13.9% alcohol): Good deep, full gold. Candied aromas of quince, orange and honey. Honey and butterscotch flavors suggest a bit of botrytis, but a firm spine of acidity keeps the wine from cloying. This rounded out nicely with time in the glass. In fact, says winemaker/proprietor Thomas Brown, the pH of 3.35 is on the high side for this wine, which is made with natural yeasts and no lees stirring. |

River Block Vyd. Chardonnay |
$90 |

WA 94 (2/2011): As for the single vineyard wines, the 2009 Chardonnay River Block comes from a vineyard situated near the Russian River planted with old Wente and Hanzell clones. Medium to full-bodied with extraordinary minerality, abundant white peach, popcorn, pear and citrus oil notes, copious fruit, zesty acidity and a refreshing, savory style, it will provide enjoyment over the next 5-6 years. |

South River Vyd. Chardonnay |
$95 |

WA 95 (2/2011): The 2009 Chardonnay South River is also fashioned from the Hanzell and old Wente clones. It exhibits more roasted hazelnut and tropical fruit characteristics intermixed with a hint of peaches and a stony component that adds to the wine’s minerality. This full-bodied, floral Chardonnay should drink well for 5-6 years or longer. VM 94 (6/2011): Greenish yellow. Smoky, leesy pear and nectarine aromas are complicated by notes of iodine and jasmine and turn spicier with air. Stony, chewy orchard fruit flavors are firmed by dusty minerality, which adds back-end cut. This is about far more than fruit, in an Old World manner. The iodine element recurs on the gripping, very long finish. I love this style of chardonnay. |

Ode to Sunshine Chardonnay |
$55 |

WA 92 (8/2011): The 2009 Chardonnay Ode to Sunshine, from the Bien Nacido Vineyard, wraps around the palate with layers of tropical fruit. Despite its textural richness and volume, the wine shows plenty of acidity and fabulous overall balance. This racy, sleek wine from Sanguis is best enjoyed while the fruit is vibrant. Ode to Sunshine spent 22 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. VM 91 (10/2011): (100% chardonnay from the Bien Nacido vineyard): Hazy gold. Wild, complex bouquet evokes pear skin, nectarine, macadamia nut and marzipan, with an oak spice note that gains strength with air. Ripe and broad but lively, with deep orchard and pit fruit flavors showing very good clarity and spiciness. Finishes long and sappy, with very good cut. |

Hawk Hill Vyd. Chardonnay |

VM 91 (6/2011): Green-gold. Aromas of lemon curd and poached pear, with a hint of candied ginger. Ripe, broad and smooth in texture, with weighty orchard fruit and melon flavors that display serious heft and power, picking up a lively note of orange zest in the mid-palate. Shows very good finishing breadth and a refreshing, slightly tart bitter touch of lemon zest, which keeps the rich fruit in line. |

WA 91 (10/2011): The 2009 Chardonnay Clos de Soleil displays a perfume of minerals, poached pear, and melon. In the glass it opens to reveal a supple texture, spicy flavors, good depth and balance, and a medium-long finish. |

VM 94 (11/2011): (48% roussanne, 34% chardonnay and 18% viognier): Vivid gold. Intense, floral-accented scents of orange zest, pit fruit and candied ginger. Powerful and broad but surprisingly energetic, offering sappy, palate-staining citrus marmalade and peach flavors lifted by tangy acidity. A suave honey note comes up with air and carries through the long, spicy finish. Josh Raynolds. WA 93 (8/2011): The 2009 On the Lam is a blend of 48% Roussanne, 34% Chardonnay and 18% Viognier from the Eleven Confessions and Bien Nacido vineyards. Tangerine peel, white peaches, mango, lychee and passion fruit are some of the nuances that emerge from this beautifully layered white. Weekly lees stirring gives the wine much of its depth. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. |
