| WA 75 (1/1998): There is really nothing wrong with this wine, but it seems one-dimensional and innocuous and clearly lacks character and depth. It is a minor Sauternes. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 11/82. |

MB [***[*]] (10/2001): Impressive cask sample in April 1991, heady, assertive, not the old, light, minty style. Rich, yet unknit at the 1997 Decanter tasting but, more recently, a much better note: good colour, flavour and balance.
VM 93 (8/1998): Wonderfully complex, quintessential Sauternes aromas of apricot, smoke, truffle, game and licorice. Thick and mouthfilling, but kept fresh by strong, harmonious acidity. Conveys a tactile, layered texture and strong noble rot character. Really lovely balance. Finishes with powerful fruit and great persistence. Stunning wine.
WA 92 (12/1997): I remember how one-dimensional, diffuse, thick, and alcoholic this wine tasted from cask and immediately after bottling, but it has progressed enormously. The 1990 exhibits a deep golden corn-like color, followed by sensational aromatics (honeyed citrus, pineapple and pear intertwined with smoke and creme brulee-like notes). In the mouth, the wine is massive and full-bodied, with an unctuous texture, and powerful, juicy flavors that possess mouth-staining extract, glycerin, and viscosity. This is a blockbuster-styled, sweet Sauternes with at least 30 years of longevity. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2030. |

JS 96 (2/2014): Wow. This has a seamless texture and wonderful depth of fruit with dried pineapple, pear and hints of honey. Full body, very sweet and dense. Superb. Sliced white truffles. Fantastic. Drink or hold.
VM 93 (7/2004): Pale yellow-gold. Orange peel, quince, honey and sexy oak tones of vanilla and spice. Chewy and powerful in the mouth, with highly concentrated flavors of creme caramel, honey and exotic spices. Finishes very long, honeyed and powerful, not to mention flamboyantly aromatic. WA 92 (12/2014): The 2001 Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a very refined, elegant bouquet that demonstates more mineralite than the previous vintages: great tension here with marmalade, quince and dried honey scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous opening. The acidity is nicely judged with touches of spice and nutmeg, although the finish is quite linear and does not quite deliver the panache of its peers. Still, this is drinking extremely well now and should continue to give pleasure over the next decade or so. |
