JS 93 (2/2018): This shows plenty of wet earth and blueberry and black-olive character. Full body, fine and round tannins and a juicy finish. Hot stones and gravel. Intense. Yes. Drink now or hold. VM 90 (2/2018): Denis Durantou's 2015 La Chenade is just as delicious from bottle as it was from barrel. The 20% Cabernet Franc gives the flavors lift and nuance to play off the bright red berry fruit. Hints of tobacco, mint, crushed flowers, licorice and spices add lovely shades of nuance. I very much like the energy and overall tension here. Antonio Galloni. WA 90 (2/2018): The 2015 La Chenade, which was so impressive from barrel, has retained that gorgeous, pure bouquet that is floral in style, still with that candied tincture. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent red berry fruit, touches of Early Grey and a sweet, candied finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. Just plain delicious. |

JD 93 (2/2019): A smoking good wine from an appellation that should get more recognition that it does, the 2016 Chenade offers a floral, medium to full-bodied style that carries loads of gravelly minerality as well as notes of black cherries, raspberries, spring flowers, and earth. With terrific purity and, again, a lovely floral quality, it’s a gorgeous red to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years. VM 92 (1/2019): The 2016 La Chenade offers a striking interplay of sweet red berry/plum fruit, blood orange, mint and exotic spice. Cabernet Franc aromatics are super-expressive in this pliant, mid-weight Lalande de Pomerol, with rose petal, star anise and savory herb overtones that emerge in the glass. La Chenade shows just how appealing 2016 is, even among humbler appellations. The 2016 is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Antonio Galloni. JS 92 (1/2019): This is very rich on the nose with so much merlot character. Plums and dried fruit. Full body, round and chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Soft and juicy. Drink now or hold. |

WA 88-90 (6/2020): Produced by Denis Darantou and family of Château L’Eglise-Clinet, this is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 La Chenade has a little reduction to begin, soon breaking through to reveal notes of raspberry pie, baked plums and boysenberries with hints of dusty soil, charcoal and wild sage. Medium-bodied, the palate is juicy and refreshing, with a light chewiness to the tannins and bags of freshness, finishing savory. VM 91-93 (6/2020): The 2019 La Chenade in Lalande-de-Pomerol was picked between 18 and 26 September and matured in 30% new oak. Unlike Durantou's fellow Lalande-de-Pomerol, this is predominantly red fruit rather than black with exuberant raspberry and cranberry, almost pastille-like. The palate is extremely well balanced, maybe with a bit more structure and weight than Les Cruzelles. The finish is spicy thanks to a liberal dash of cracked black pepper. Wonderful, as usual. Antonio Galloni. JS 92-93 (6/2020): Plenty of sweet berries with chocolate and smoke. Even coffee. It’s medium-bodied with ripe tannins. Cherries at the end. |
