WA 92 (2/2012): The final blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot was cropped very low at 35 hectoliters per hectare. Deep purple, with a nose of subtle smoke, graphite, blueberry and black raspberry fruit as well as some spring flowers, in the mouth a touch of oak makes an appearance, but the wine is full-bodied, rich, inky and unctuously textured due to the high glycerin and alcohol that hits 14% plus. This beauty should drink well for up to two decades. VM 92 (7/2012): (50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 5% each petit verdot and cabernet franc): Bright ruby-red. Cassis, blueberry, graphite and smoky oak aromas are lifted by a floral element. Broad, rich and enveloping, with a restrained sweetness to the pliant flavors of dark berries, spices and graphite. Layered, minerally and long, with firm, building tannins coating the front teeth. Really splendid density and texture for Moulis wine, and a great vintage for Poujeaux. This large chateau, among the finest properties in Moulis, was purchased in 2008 by Philippe Cuvelier, who also owns Clos Fourtet. The same team of manager Nicolas Thienpont and enologist Stephane Derenoncourt was responsible for superb 2009s at both estates. |

JS 92 (1/2019): Blackberry, blueberry and orange-peel aromas follow through to a full body with a solid core of fruit and a fresh, tangy finish. The hazelnut and walnut undertones add to the complexity. Drink in 2021 and onwards. VM 90 (1/2019): The 2016 Poujeaux has turned out beautifully. Ripe, generous and deeply layered, the 2016 has so much to offer. A varietal Cabernet Sauvignon note give the dark red/purplish berry fruit an attractive floral/savory upper register that adds striking nuance as well as character. This is a superb vintage for Poujeaux. Antonio Galloni. |

| JS 93-94 (6/2020): Solid as a rock this year with blueberries and crushed stones. Dried lavender, too. It’s medium-bodied, yet structured and long. Excellent. |

JD 91-93 (4/2026): A serious, balanced Moulis-en-Médoc, the 2025 Château Poujeaux is based on 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot from gravel soils. The nose reveals juicy black cherry, spring flowers, graphite, some minerality, and nicely integrated oak, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a fresh, concentrated mouthfeel and good overall balance. It's very much in the fresh, straight, nicely concentrated style of the vintage and will have a long life. VM 92-95 (4/2026): The 2025 Poujeaux is fabulous. Right out of the gate, it offers superb fruit intensity and plenty of structure to match. Dark blue and black-toned fruit, grilled herbs, menthol, lavender and licorice infuse the palate with tremendous depth. Broad swaths of tannin add to an impression of somber intensity. Yields were just 27 hectoliters per hectare. That, along with a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon vis-à-vis most years, has resulted in an especially potent Poujeaux. Tasted two times. Antonio Galloni. WA 89-91 (4/2026): Offering up attractive aromas of petals, dark berries and cigar wrapper, the 2025 Poujeaux is medium-bodied, with a sweet core of fruit and lively acids but surprisingly firm tannins that assert themselves on the chewy finish. Perhaps, like the 2022, it will round out with more time in barrel? It's a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot. JA 93 (4/2026): Deep plum colour, vivid with bright reflections, has the fresh acidities of the vintage balanced out by rich deep fruits, toasted spice, floral fragrance and austere tannins that speaks of ageing ability. Derenoncourt Consulting. Philippe and Mathieu Cuvelier owners. 3.72 pH. Harvest September 11 to 23. 25% new oak. |
