| VM 94 (5/2008): Saturated, deep ruby-red. Very complex aromas of plum, mocha, iron and minerals, lifted by a floral topnote. Wonderfully lush and smooth in the mouth, with fully ripe flavors of black raspberry, currant, licorice and mocha perfectly supported by ripe acidity. This boasts terrific balance and somehow manages to hide its 14.5% alcohol. Finishes impressively long, with big but thoroughly ripe tannins. The pH here is a very reasonable 3.6, notes Jean-Luc Thunevin. A splendid vintage for Valandraud, and likely to evolve slowly. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 93-96 (4/2015): The 2014 Valandraud is one of the most alluring wines of the year. Deep, dense and explosive to the core, the 2014 possesses an extra level of textural finesse and pure refinement that elevates it. Crème de cassis, mint, licorice, cloves and new leather blossom in an effortless glass, beautifully marrying ripeness with freshness. The vibrant, pulsating finish alone is incredibly inviting. Readers who want to understand the captivating interplay of fruit and freshness that defines the 2014s will want to check out Valandraud. Tasted two times. Antonio Galloni.
WA 93-95 (4/2015): The Château Valandraud 2014 does not mess about on the aromatics. There is no holding back here with its plush blackcurrant pastille and vivacious crème de cassis and violet-scents, but as usual, Jean-Luc Thunevin has retained superb delineation and exquisite purity. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated ripe tannin and a keen line of acidity; a sense of symmetry and precision on the finish. It is modern in style for sure, but there is quality and craftsmanship interwoven into this Saint Emilion. This is as sophisticated as anything you will find on the Right Bank.
JS 92-93 (3/2015): A rich wine with fine tannins and fruits. Full body, very polished texture and a wonderful length. There’s an attractive mineral and a fresh tobacco character to the wine. |

JD 94-97 (4/2018): Unquestionably up with the crème de la crème of the vintage, the 2017 Valandraud boasts a ripe, fabulously sexy bouquet of blackberries, blueberries, black cherries, violets, and loamy earth. About as pleasurable, rounded, and expansive as it gets in the vintage, this full-bodied Saint-Emilion has a stacked mid-palate, sweet tannin, and a great finish. I was able to taste this cuvee on two separate occasions and absolutely loved it both times.
JS 94-95 (4/2018): Lots of beautiful blueberry and blackberry fruits here. Medium to full body, round and very polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Wet-earth undertones. Velvety mouthfeel at the end. |

JD 95-97 (5/2023): The flagship white from Jean-Luc needs to be tasted to be believed, and I continue to think this is one of the top whites in Bordeaux. A blend of 45% Sauvignon Gris, 40% Sauvignon Blanc, and the rest Sémillon, it has a killer bouquet of honeyed lime, flowers, salty minerality, and exotic citrus fruits. These carry to a medium to full-bodied white with integrated yet vibrant acidity, beautiful balance, and a great finish. It will evolve for two decades.
VM 92-94 (5/2023): The 2022 Valandraud Blanc beautifully marries textural resonance and energy. Exotic white flowers, orchard fruit, tangerine peel and a kiss of spice all run through this gorgeous dry white. Brisk acids wrap all together nicely. Antonio Galloni.
JA 94 (5/2023): The issues with Virginie de Valandraud in terms of translating the heat of the vintage are not apparent in the main estate white wine. This has intensity and concentrated stone fruit character, and shows complexity and grip in its white pepper, apricot pit, saffron, passion fruit and slate character, with an edge of mint leaf.
