VM 94 (12/2022): Glass-staining ruby. Pungent aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, licorice, smoked meat, potpourri and black pepper. Offers densely packed cassis, bitter cherry and candied violet flavors that show fine definition and are braced by an undercurrent of juicy acidity. The licorice, cassis and floral notes repeat on a long, spice- and mineral-accented finish that features youthfully chewy tannins and a hint of bitter chocolate. (Drink between 2026-2036). Josh Raynolds.

JD 91 (3/2024): The 2021 Côte Rôtie Amethyste comes from a blend of the Côte Brune, Le Mollard, Lancement (since 2019), Le Truchet, and Fongeant, with some younger vintages from Chavaroche. Mostly destemmed, it has a beautiful array of black raspberry fruits as well as some spring flower, pepper, and iron-like nuances. It's medium-bodied, has solid mid-palate depth, and fine tannins, and it's clearly an outstanding wine. Give it just a few years and enjoy over the following 10-12. VM 89 (1/2025): The 2021 Côte-Rôtie Améthyste is fairly reductive at this showing. Time in the glass fleshes out rustic touches, cured meat, white pepper, red plum and black cherry aromatics. Touching the medium-bodied palate with moderate flavor concentration, the elegant 2021 outperforms the 2022. A savory, fleshy finish wraps it up. (Drink between 2027-2032). Nicolas Greinacher. |

VM 94 (2/2015): Dark purple. A heady, exotically perfumed bouquet evokes black and blue fruit liqueur, incense, smoked meat and floral pastille, with a minerally nuance lending vivacity. Broad and sappy on the palate, offering intense boysenberry and cherry compote flavors and a wild twist of passion fruit. Densely packed yet lively, finishing with outstanding power and persistence. Even tannins come in late and fold smoothly into the wine's intesne fruit. (Drink between 2018-2035).

VM 94-96 (6/2018): Inky, vivid purple. Highly perfumed, mineral-laced black and blue fruit, violet, smoked meat and incense qualities on the nose. Fleshy, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering densely packed yet surprisingly lively boysenberry, candied licorice, spicecake and violet flavors enlivened by an undercurrent of juicy acidity. Deftly blends richness and finesse and finishes extremely long and youthfully tannic, leaving floral pastille, star anise and dark berry liqueur notes behind. Josh Raynolds.

VM 91-93 (4/2012): Inky purple. Complex, deeply pitched nose combines black raspberry, licorice, dark chocolate, violet, tobacco and cracked pepper; emphatically syrah. Dense and powerful but with very good definition and energy to its black and blue fruit, spice and anise flavors. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and impressive length. This looks like it will reward patience. Josh Raynolds.

VM 93 (4/2018): Bright purple. Intensely perfumed aromas of dark berry liqueur, cherry compote, olive, licorice candy and smoky bacon show excellent focus and mineral lift. Stains the palate with intense, appealingly sweet blueberry and fruitcake flavors that become deeper and spicier with air. Distinctly rich, in the style of the years, but this wine comes off surprisingly graceful and precise and finishes with wonderful persistence and chewy, slowly emerging tannins. Josh Raynolds.
