WA 88-90 (5/2021): The 2020 Doisy Daëne Blanc Sec gives up notes of fresh pears and white peaches with a savory undercurrent of baking bread, allspice and almonds. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing, offering a lovely purity of spiced pears flavors with a racy backbone and zesty lift on the finish.

WA 94+ (2/2013): The 2009 Doisy-Daene was spectacular out of barrel, however it has never quite reached those ethereal heights in bottle. Perhaps this rich, generous vintage did not quite suit the crisp, tense style of Denis Dubourdieu’s Barsac? Compared to others in this blind tasting, it comes across as more muted on the nose with scents of beeswax, marmalade and lanolin, though the Sauvignon Blanc is very expressive. The palate is very well-balanced on the entry with crisp acidity cutting through the viscous texture. The finish is rounded in the mouth, offering attractive notes of lemon sherbet and orange essence. Everything is very “contained” at the moment, although the tension suggests that it should age well. I suspect this will need a decade before it really blossoms. Drink 2020-2040.

WA 95-97 (4/2012): The aromatics on the Doisy-Daene comes racing out of the blocks like a March hare, soaring from the glass with honey, quince and lychee aromas with a sorbet like freshness and vivacity. The palate is supremely well balanced with a heightened level of tension and purity, offering delectable but subtle notes of white peach and apricot towards the beautifully composed, mineral-rich finish. Curiously, it reminds me of a top-flight Mosel Auslese, but what a fabulous Barsac from Denis Dubourdieu! JS 92-93 (4/2012): A dense wine with honey, spice and butterscotch undertones. Full and very sweet. Turns spicy on the finish. Lots of botrytis character. |

VM 94+ (2/2023): The 2019 Doisy-Daëne has a delightful bouquet with dried honey, white peach and white chocolate scents, ample botrytis and concentration here. The palate is well-balanced with fine acidity, elegant with a touch of spice towards the finish. Lovely. Not quite the finest example tasted, but it will surely improve with bottle age as this Barsac is wont to do. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. (Drink between 2025-2045). Neal Martin.

VM 95-97 (5/2021): The 2020 Doisy-Daëne, pure Semillon this year picked at 16hl/ha over three to six tries through the vineyard, presents a well-defined nose that, compared side-by-side with Doisy-Vedrines, is actually quite similar in terms of the dried honey, honeysuckle, candle wax and quince aromas that unfurl from the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and such purity on the finish that it endows this Barsac with wonderful weightlessness. Magnificent. Neal Martin.
