| VM 91 (12/2014): Brilliant ruby-red. Smoky cherry and dark berry aromas are complicated by licorice and spicecake. Spicy and focused on entry, then deeper and broader in the mid-palate, offering potent black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of candied rose. The smoke and spice notes come back on the youthfully tannic finish, which is sweet, sappy and very persistent. Josh Raynolds. |

WA 92 (8/2011): The 2009 Chardonnay Ode to Sunshine, from the Bien Nacido Vineyard, wraps around the palate with layers of tropical fruit. Despite its textural richness and volume, the wine shows plenty of acidity and fabulous overall balance. This racy, sleek wine from Sanguis is best enjoyed while the fruit is vibrant. Ode to Sunshine spent 22 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. VM 91 (10/2011): (100% chardonnay from the Bien Nacido vineyard): Hazy gold. Wild, complex bouquet evokes pear skin, nectarine, macadamia nut and marzipan, with an oak spice note that gains strength with air. Ripe and broad but lively, with deep orchard and pit fruit flavors showing very good clarity and spiciness. Finishes long and sappy, with very good cut. |
