| VM 89 (6/2018): The 2015 Barbera d'Alba San Giuseppe is a pleasant, fruity wine to drink now and over the next few years, while the red cherry and plum fruit retains its youthful vibrancy. The natural radiance of the 2015 vintage comes through in spades in this tasty entry-level Barbera from Andrea Oberto. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 94 (5/2013): Oberto's 2009 Barolo Vigneto Brunate is striking. It brings together the very best qualities of the year and site. Dramatic and enveloping, the 2009 offers up layers of dark fruit, menthol, licorice, spices and tar. The power and breadth of Brunate comes through beautifully in this intense yet impeccably balanced Barolo. Brunate is of course considered one of Piedmont's greatest sites. Even in a warm year like 2009, the vineyard's personality is impossible to overwhelm. JS 92 (7/2013): Aromas of ripe strawberries and hints of hazelnuts and chocolate. Full body, with silky tannins and a long finish. Firm and straightforward. Try in 2015. WA 91 (6/2013): Distinctively masculine and bold, the 2009 Barolo Vigneto Brunate presents savory tones of cured meat, bresaola and dried tobacco leaf. There’s little latitude here in terms of the fruity offerings on display. The finish is dusty and dark and those firmly polished tannins really do kick in with determination and power. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2025. VM 90+ (12/2013): Good deep red. Very ripe, musky aromas of plum, truffle, leather, menthol and brown spices. Ripe and sweet on entry, then on the dry side in the middle; not a particular vibrant or fruit-driven style. Finishes with good length and serious dusty tannins that avoid coming off as dry. |

JS 96 (4/2015): Wonderful length to this red with plum, hazelnut and light chocolate character. Full body, velvety tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Lingering finish. Hard to decide if 2011 is better than 2010. Better in 2019. VM 90 (3/2015): The 2011 Barolo Brunate is unusually forward and open in this vintage. Translucent and soft, the 2011 is laced with attractive scents of dark plum, cherry, spice and wild flowers. This is a pretty Barolo, for Brunate the 2011 lacks a bit of punch and the depth that is typical of wines from this hallowed site. Sadly, this is the last vintage of the Brunate here, as Oberto lost the lease. |

JS 94 (9/2015): A red with dried berry, flowers, stone and dried spices on the nose. Full-bodied, tight and structured. Layers of ripe fruit and tannins. Long and flavorful finish. His vineyard did wonderfully in this hot year. Better in 2017. VM 93 (3/2015): Oberto's 2011 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata captures all the signatures of this site from its floral, perfumed aromatics to red-fleshed fruit and silky, polished tannins, all delivered with the feminine sensuality that is the truest essence of what Rocche is all about. Freshly cut roses, mint and vivid red berries grace the super-expressive finish. In my view, Rocche is Oberto's flagship. The 2011 has come together quite nicely since I last tasted in barrel. Antonio Galloni. |
