WA 90-91 (6/2010): The Germain 2008 Beaune Teurons displays aromas of roasted chestnut, cassis, nutmeg, cinnamon, blond tobacco, and vanilla, which follow on a palate of considerable friskiness and berry-freshness, underlain by notes of chalk, moss, and other aspects of forest floor. The piquancy of brown spices is especially prominent in a palate-staining finish that in no way betrays this energetic wine’s over-14% alcohol. Look for at least 10-12 years of fascination. BH 89-92 (4/2010): (two-thirds from 60+ year old vines and the balance from 20+ year old vines). This is a very ripe '08, indeed it's almost surmature with red berry fruit, ripe plum and a hint of cassis that slides gracefully into rich, serious and mouth coating flavors that are quite firm but not hard, all wrapped in a mouth coating, dusty and admirably long finish. Despite the ripeness, this does not lack for freshness or vibrancy and is really quite good. Drink 2016+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |
