JS 94 (9/2020): This is an ultra fine Barolo with cherries, spice, cedar and hints of dried flowers on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied, yet reserved, very caressing and fine-grained. A thoroughly beautiful young 2016. Drink or hold.   VM 93 (2/2020): Azelia's 2016 Barolo is a blend of fruit from two parcels in Castiglione Falletto and five in Serralunga, with the character of Serralunga especially felt in the wine's tannic grip and persistence. Iron, sage, mint, smoke and wild cherry give the Barolo striking aromatic nuance and complexity, all in the mid-weight style that is such a signature at this address. The purity of the fruit is just striking. Stated simply, this is a tremendous wine in its peer group. Antonio Galloni.   WA 93 (7/2020): Azelia's classic 2016 Barolo shows a spicy or savory personality with accents of laurel leaf, eucalyptus and clove. Those are some of the high notes that hover over a core of dark fruit and dried blackberry. On the Nebbiolo scale, this wine takes us to a sultry side of the variety, with slightly more fruit weight, texture and pronounced black fruit. If you are choosing your Barolo according to a possible pasta or meat pairing, this would be the meat wine. Azelia's classico Barolo is a blend of fruit from seven single vineyards, with 30% of the total from Castiglione Falletto and 70% from Serralunga d'Alba. A big portion comes from the Cerretta and Broglio sites, with 50-year-old vines. About 29,000 examples were produced. |

		| VM 97 (2/2020): The 2016 Barolo Cerretta brings together all the best elements of the Azelia house style. Powerful, dense and dark, the Cerretta has so much going for it. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice, menthol, sage and licorice all flesh out in the glass. Rich and potent in feel with tremendous nuance, the Cerretta is flat-out stunning. The Scavinos started by renting this parcel in 1995 and they re-planted it in 1996. For many years, all of this fruit went into the straight Barolo. Now, 25 years later, the estate has finally released its first single-vineyard Barolo off this site, and it is a stunner. Antonio Galloni. |

		| VM 95+ (2/2020): The 2016 Barolo Margheria shows the natural weight and gravitas of Serralunga in its dark flavor profile and textural resonance. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice, mint, chalk and bright saline notes are all laced throughout. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2016 possesses tremendous persistence and class to burn. Wilder suggestions of sage and lavender add savory top notes, while searing tannins punctuate the finish. Antonio Galloni. |

		| WA 95+ (8/2023): Azelia makes three wines with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, including San Rocco, Cerretta and this wine. There is also a Riserva from Bricco Voghera. The 2019 Barolo Margheria comes from a southwest facing slope opposite the Perno Vineyard. The site has very poor soils with white clay, and the vines (aged 65 years old on average) are forced to push their roots very deep as a result. This wine has a tight and very firm personality with dark fruit, rusty nail, dusty mineral and tight structure. Those rusty mineral aromas give it away as Serralunga d'Alba. (Drink between 2025-2045). |

VM 95 (3/2015): As it usually is, the 2011 Barolo San Rocco is the darkest and richest of the Azelia Barolos, but it too is quite polished in this vintage. Dark red cherries, licorice, spices and new leather flesh out in a Barolo that shows the depth of Serralunga, but with gorgeous mid-palate pliancy, silky tannins and soft contours for a young Barolo. Here, too, the wine's balance is incredibly alluring, especially since the San Rocco has a history of drinking well throughout its entire life. Antonio Galloni.   WS 93 (8/2015): Licorice and sweet spice notes grace the cherry and tar flavors in this intense and compact red. All the components are well-proportioned, but this needs time to come together. Offers a classic Serralunga profile. Best from 2019 through 2035.   JS 93 (9/2015): A young Barolo with floral, cherry and citrus aromas that follow through to a full body, firm tannins and a tangy, lively finish. This is an energetic young Barolo that needs time to soften in the bottle. Drink in 2016.   WA 92 (1/2017): The 2011 Barolo San Rocco shows focused intensity with a pretty array of varietal characteristics. Boasting the best of Nebbiolo, the wine shows dark fruit nuances with smoke, tobacco, tar and black olive. This expression also offers lasting structure with evident tannic firmness and long persistence. |

		| VM 94 (2/2020): Azelia's 2016 Barolo San Rocco shows terrific density and richness, but it is less aromatically expressive than most of the other 2016s in the range. Readers will have to give this at least a few years in bottle for the tannins to soften. Even in the early going, though, the 2016 is deep, powerful and loaded with pedigree. Now that most of Azelia's wines are aged in cask, the influence of small French oak is especially evident. Antonio Galloni. |
