WA 94 (10/2012): The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition was even better than when I tasted it last year prior to bottling. A wine of great intensity, it may be the finest Tradition cuvee yet made at Bosquet des Papes. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by sumptuous notes of balsam wood, roasted Provencal herbs/garrigue, sweet black raspberry and blackberry fruit and hints of truffles and lavender. This dense, full-bodied, amazing Chateauneuf is one of the top values of the vintage. Enjoy it over the next 15-20 years. WS 93 (10/2012): A broad, gutsy style, with bittersweet cocoa and Turkish coffee notes leading the way for an immense yet still tightly wound core of blackberry, fig paste and steeped black currant fruit. The tar-coated finish has heft, but also serious cut. Best from 2014 through 2028. 3,000 cases made. JD 92+ (9/2012): As with the 2011, the 2010 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a very well done, traditional effort that reveals fantastic southern Rhône typicity. Garrigue, roasted meats, pepper, and spice give way to a medium to full-bodied Châteauneuf-du-Pape that has a core of sweet red and black fruits, beautiful purity, and serious, age-worthy structure. Give bottles 3-4 years in the cellar, and then enjoy over the following decade or longer. VM 91 (1/2013): (mostly grenache, with mourvedre, syrah and cinsault): Saturated ruby. Blackberry, cherry and lavender on the intensely perfumed, spicy nose and in the mouth. Deep and expansive, with impressive back-end punch and slow-building smokiness. The spice and floral notes carry through a long, sweet, gently tannic finish. Decant this one if you can't resist opening a bottle now. Josh Raynolds. |

WA 98 (10/2012): A 100% Grenache cuvee from the Gardiole lieu-dit is the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape a la Gloire de Mon Grandpere. With 43 separate parcels spread throughout the appellation, the Boiron family can pick and choose the best, but it must be a strategic nightmare to manage all these different parcels. This 2010 (500 cases produced) includes 50% stems and is aged entirely in demi-muids. Close to perfection, it is the finest example of this cuvee I have tasted since its debut in 1998. Drinking it is like drinking pure kirsch liqueur intermixed with notes of crushed spring flowers. Its superb minerality, density, purity and texture build incrementally in the mouth revealing a blockbuster red with superb elegance, precision and purity. The alcohol must surpass 15%. Drink this spectacular Chateauneuf du Pape over the next 12-15 years. WS 94 (10/2012): Rich and velvety, with concentrated but lithe layers of fig sauce, blackberry confiture and fresh plum studded with singed apple wood, dark tobacco and a flicker of warm stone. The long finish lets everything echo beautifully. Best from 2014 through 2030. 500 cases made. JLL **** (12/2011): ark, shiny full robe. There is latent spice in a big, almost thick aroma that carries ripe southern airs, notes of crushed black olives. The palate shows attractive fruit right away, and runs consistently to the end. Fine tannins lie well encased, the length is good. It finishes on a firm note. From 2014. VM 93 (1/2013): (all grenache) Bright purple. An exotically perfumed nose evokes dark berries, spicecake and potpourri, with a strong suggestion of garrigue building with air. Offers intense blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that gain sweetness and energy with aeration. Rich but lively, finishing with Outstanding clarity and silky, harmonious tannins. |
