WA 93 (11/2013): From a high yielding year, the 2005 is evolved and fully mature. Stunning aromatics of pomegranate, black cherries, porcini mushrooms and jus de viande are enticing and evolved. In the mouth, the wine is medium to full-bodied (15.5% alcohol) with sweet, velvety tannins. Drink this round, delicious 2005 Pinot Noir now and over the next 5-7 years. VM 92 (11/2007): Pale red. Exotic head shop aromas suggest red fruits, bayberry, cinnamon and patchouli, with a suave blood orange character building with air. Spicy redcurrant and strawberry flavors are seductively perfumed and pure, with dusty minerality contributing grip and focus. Reminds me of a top Dujac wine with its heady bouquet, sharply focused red berry flavors and silky texture. Josh Raynolds. |

JD 99 (8/2020): My favorite of the Chardonnay releases is the 2018 Chardonnay 3D, and this beauty has everything you could want from a Sta. Rita Hills release. Medium gold-hued, with a stunning nose of stone fruits, white currants, crushed stone, toasted bread, and a hints of green almonds, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant texture, flawless balance, and a great, great finish. It's one of the finest Chardonnays in this report. This is another brilliant lineup from Greg Brewer, and these Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs (as well as a terrific Syrah) are up with the finest wines in this report. These wines are never shrinking violets and have loads of fruit and texture, yet they always show singular characters, stunning balance, and weightless, elegant textures that make them a joy to drink. I think they're some of the finest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays coming out of California today. WA 96 (10/2020): The 2018 Chardonnay 3D is a stunning wine with intense layers and mega intense perfume! It leaps from the glass with elderflower, quince, white peaches and baklava plus loads of honeyed nuances. The palate is medium-bodied and satiny with full, broad, perfectly ripe fruit character opposed by gently tangy acidity, and it finishes very long and very layered. 750 cases produced. VM 94 (8/2020): The 2018 Chardonnay 3D is the most powerful of the wines. Tropical, dense and plush, the 3D possesses notable richness, yet retains the energy that runs through all these wines. The 3D is marked by a real sense of oiliness and texture. The mix of Wente and Mt. Eden clones work so well here. (Drink between 2021-2028). Antonio Galloni. |
