WS 95 (2/2005): Gorgeous nose of black currant preserves and freshly roasted coffee, with a powerful yet very silky palate of cassis, plum, blackberry, loam, mineral and dark chocolate flavors that glide through a superlong finish. Don't be deceived by its seeming accessibility though--there's some iron-clad structure underneath for the long haul as well. Drink now through 2012. 13,500 cases made.
WA 93 (6/2007): The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon remains youthful. It has a spicy, pain grille accented nose with plenty of mineral, cassis, and black currant making their presence known. The wine is medium to full-bodied in an elegant St.-Julien style. This layered, lengthy effort will continue to develop for another 6-8 years and drink well through 2027. |

WS 92 (12/2005): Ripe and focused, with a pure beam of black currant and plum fruit, layered with cocoa, mineral, loam, tobacco and toast. Ripe, smoky finish, with impressive structure for the vintage. Drink now through 2010. 11,000 cases made.
WA 90 (6/2007): The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is less concentrated than the 2001 and slightly hot on the palate. |

WS 96 (9/2006): With a great nose of currant confiture and cocoa powder, this full-scale Cabernet sports dark fig, currant and blackberry fruit layered with loam, cedar, tobacco, mineral and coffee. Long and authoritative finish just sails on thanks to rather regal tannins. Best from 2007 through 2016. 10,500 cases made.
WA 93 (6/2007): The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon has a spicy perfume of toasty oak, black currants, and blackberry liqueur. It has lots of extraction in its layered, structured personality and should evolve for another 6-8 years. |

WA 95 (4/2009): The 2006 Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon is a glass-coating opaque purple with an alluring bouquet of toast, tobacco, cedar, leather, mocha, and blackcurrant. Sweet, voluptuous (but not in a fruit bomb kind of way), layered, and complex already, its superb balance will ensure at least a decade of evolution and it should drink well through 2036.
WS 94 (3/2009): A dark, muscular style, with black currant, braised fig, maduro tobacco, bittersweet cocoa and loam notes that all roll together through the dense but polished finish. There's impressive power for the vintage, along with precision and balance. Drink now through 2018. 20,000 cases made.
VM 92 (3/2009): (includes 3% cabernet franc) Inky ruby. Expansive, intensely perfumed bouquet of dark berries, cherry pit, candied licorice and sexy oak spices. Broad, gently chewy cassis and bitter cherry flavors reach every nook and cranny of the palate, picking up an exotic violet pastille quality on the back end. Gains power on the finish, which features strong anise, tobacco and lead pencil qualities. Serious and in need of cellaring. Josh Raynolds. |

| VM 90 (3/2009): Inky ruby. Suave aromas of black raspberry, potpourri and licorice. A smoky note comes up with air and carries onto the palate, which offers sweet red and black fruit flavors and fine-grained tannins. Sappy red fruits linger on the long, nicely focused finish. This is complex enough to drink now but I'd hold off for at least another couple of years. Josh Raynolds |
