WA 94 (6/2010): Savory sirloin juices are suggested on the nose and palate of the Tremblay 2008 Chapelle-Chambertin (tasted from bottle) to an extent that makes you shake your head wondering how such a thing could come from grapes. (We’re talking here about especially tiny berries and millerandage-riddled clusters, as is the case every year from these ancient vines.) That said, plenty of ripe cassis, dark cherry, and licorice is present to compliment this wine’s remarkably vivid carnal side. Dense, fine-grained tannin allied to energetic intensity of fresh fruit suggest the rippling of well-developed muscles in a torso that some (including me) would say is inherently testosterone-laden as a matter of terroir. Expect at least 12-15 years of vigor, but don’t look for charm. While few could enjoy the combination of expendable income and luck it would require, a comparison of this Chapelle with that of Claude Dugat will make for a startling combination of truth-in-terroir with stark stylistic divergence.
WS 94 (5/2011): Deep, rich and smoky, this delivers ripeness and complexity. Black cherry, blackberry and black currant flavors reign, with spice and mineral adding dimension. The aftertaste of sweet fruit and spice is long and refined. Best from 2013 through 2028. 15 cases imported.
VM 93 (4/2011): Deep red-ruby. Reticent but pure aromas of dark fruits, smoked meat, minerals, pepper and sexy oak, plus a whiff of garrigue. Concentrated, aromatic and sweet, with enticing herbal and peppery lift to the dark fruit and licorice flavors. Not as fleshy as the Beaux Monts but very pure, scented and long. Always the best-looking grapes along with the Feusselottes, notes Tremblay.
BH 90-93 (1/2010): ( from a .38 ha parcel). Like the Beaux Monts, this is also beautifully complex with an earthy and serious yet elegant nose of red pinot fruit, underbrush and a hint of the sauvage that is also reflected by the pure, detailed and powerful middle weight plus flavors that possess ample dry extract that coats the mouth on the lingering finish. Drink 2018+. |

| BH 89-91 (1/2011): (from a .53 ha parcel of 45 to 50 year old vines in Jacquines.) This offers a big step up in aromatic elegance with its pure and very spicy mix of red berry liqueur and dark cherry aromas that complement well the seductively textured middle weight flavors blessed with an abundance of dry extract that buffers the moderately firm tannins and coats the palate on the sneaky long finish. Recommended as this is a quintessential Vosne. Drink 2016+. Outstanding! |
