VM 91-93 (1/2017): Healthy full red. Cherry and boysenberry fruit aromas are lifted by rose petal and violet, with a gamey nuance adding complexity. Silky on entry, with its cherry and raspberry flavors enlivened by pungent minerality. In a distinctly rocky yet smooth style, like a baby Griottes. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90-93 (1/2017): (from a .21 ha parcel planted in 1919.) This is also strikingly fresh and bright with an aromatic profile that runs towards the red side of the fruit spectrum along with more evident earth and game nuances. There is a bit more volume and power to the equally mineral-inflected flavors that trade size and weight for slightly less precision on the equally long but less refined finale. This is more obviously Gevrey in character. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! |

VM 90-92 (1/2018): Good bright red. Distinctly dark aromas of black cherry, licorice and menthol convey a medicinal cast. Then fine-grained, suave and sweet, with flavors of black cherry, blackberry and licorice pastille. Considering the wine's medicinal coolness, this midweight is also quite ripe. Finishes with harmonious tannins that saturate the tongue and build. Lovely subtle length; spreads out subtly to saturate the palate. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90-92 (1/2018): Moderate wood influence can be found on the overtly sauvage-inflected red currant, plum and earth-scented nose. The supple and round medium-bodied flavors possess a velvet-textured mid-palate that is really quite seductive though the natural muscle of a Gevrey 1er shows up on the saline and ever-so-mildly rustic finale. This quality effort is firm enough to require at least 5+ years of cellaring and it will need at least a decade to arrive at its apogee. (Drink starting 2026) |

| BH 90-93 (1/2019): Once again there is a lovely coolness and restraint to the quite pure aromas of gently earthy red and dark currant scents. The vibrant and beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing and rich mouthfeel though the solidly long and complex finish progressively tightens up as it sits on the palate. This should be approachable young but amply reward mid-term cellaring. |

WA 94-95 (4/2007): Fourrier’s 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques reveals a gorgeous aroma of black fruits, rose, truffle, tea and musk, a marrowy, creamy richness of texture, and a riveting finishing complexity of fruit, meat, flowers, pungent spices and minerals. If this is not a case of progression into the territory of grand cru quality, I don’t know what is. I would plan to start following this from ten years out and anticipate at least a second decade of improvement. (With a vintage-typical, yet in this instance, somehow not disruptive contrast of milky texture with tart fresh fruit, and displaying strikingly overt minerality, the 2004 rendition of this wine is also well worth a decade of cellaring.) VM 94+ (4/2008): Good deep red. Knockout nose combines raspberry, mocha, roast coffee, game and minerals, accented by mint and oak spice. The palate offers a lush wall of thick fruit that saturates the entire palate without leaving any impression of weight. This densely packed beauty finishes extremely long and smooth, with utterly suave tannins and superb aromatic lift. BH 94 (2/2013): Initially this was heavily reduced and required a full 45 minutes in a vigorously shaken decanter to really dissipate the funk. Like many '05s at this stage in their evolution this remains reserved and tight but the concentration and balance is seriously impressive. That said, the reserved nose, while offering glimpses of what is to come, it closed and the supporting tannins are still very, very firm. I remain highly optimistic that in time this is going to be a genuinely great Clos St. Jacques but for now it's basically infanticide, even with extended aeration. I would advise just letting this slumber away for the better part of another decade as it's going to need it but when it finally matures, we're in for a real treat! Try from 2020+ |

BH 92-95 (1/2014): (from .89 ha parcel planted in 1910). This is more elegant still with an exuberantly spicy, airy and cool mix of raspberry, cherry, red currant and plenty of wet stone character. There is superb intensity to the mineral-driven, pure and ultra-refined middle weight flavors that are shaped by very fine-grained tannins on the moderately austere, balanced and wonderfully persistent finish. A classic Clos St. Jacques. Drink 2024+. Don't miss! Outstanding! WA 94-96 (12/2013): The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques has a very precise bouquet with raspberry pastille, wild strawberry and a distant marine influence that is very pure. The palate is medium-bodied with a clean and pure opening, the mineralite only surfacing midway and then flourishing towards the complex, quite compelling finish. This is a very nuanced Clos Saint Jacques with a long spice tinged tail on the aftertaste. VM 94-97 (2/2014): Bright dark, fresh red. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, minerals, rose petal and blood orange. Incredibly sappy, vibrant and imploded, showing Outstanding lift and cut to its red berry and floral flavors. Not quite opulent but utterly seamless wine, finishing with explosive length and fine-grained tannins. This wonderfully juicy Clos Saint-Jacques is hiding its underlying density today. This is now 12.8% alcohol, without chaptalization. |

| VM 94 (3/2017): Healthy medium red. Sexy, complex aromas of strawberry, crushed stone and rose petal convey a captivating combe coolness. Wonderfully concentrated and bright, combining classic 2014 salty minerality with superb fruit intensity. Boasts the kind of restrained generosity of fruit that reminds me of the '99s in the early going. A compelling, saline vin de terroir but not a powerhouse. The long, rising finish features very suave tannins. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 90-92 (1/2018): Moderate amounts of wood and menthol characters serve as a less than neutral backdrop for the earth and sauvage-inflected dark pinot fruit-suffused nose. | BH 90-92 (1/2021): A less expressive, even somewhat brooding nose, grudgingly reflects notes of poached plum, black raspberry and spice nuances. The finer and more mineral-driven middle weight flavors possess equally good verve along with fine depth and persistence on the pit fruit-inflected finish. This is lovely and notably less Gevrey in character; indeed its proximity to Morey is evident. |

VM 91 (3/2012): Good deep red. Musky aroma of raspberry, blueberry, smoke, crushed rock and game. At once sweet and taut, with an impression of lift and energy rare for the vintage. Really lovely fruit here. Fourrier told me he liked the effect of elevage in mostly older casks in 2009. "More new oak would have speeded up the evolution of the wines," he explained. "That would have required using more sulfur dioxide but we still would have lost fruit." BH 89-91 (1/2011): (from Champs Perrières in Brochon.) An earthy and very Gevrey nose offers up dark berry fruit and game-infused aromas that complement well the brooding, robust and complex medium weight plus flavors that possess fine mid-palate density, all wrapped in an intense and driving finish. This is a lovely villages and worth your consideration. Drink 2016+. Outstanding! |

VM 91 (3/2013): Good bright, full red. High-pitched aromas of tangy red and darker berries and rose petal, complemented by lower-toned earth and smoke notes. Boasts terrific volume for village wine: dense, salty and soil-driven, with raspberry fruit complicated by earth and minerals. Really stimulates the taste buds on the smooth, long, lightly saline finish. Terrific village wine. WA 90-92 (2/2012): The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is striking. Attractive floral aromatics meld into expressive fruit in this sweet, perfumed wine. Dark red cherries, freshly cut flowers, mint and hard candy wrap around the sensual, fragrant finish. This is a very classy showing. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. BH 89-91 (1/2012): (from Champs Perrières in Brochon.) This is also exceptionally fresh and complex and the composition of the aromas is much the same as the Aux Echezeaux except perhaps here they are ever-so-slightly more elegant. The textured, intense and solidly well-concentrated medium weight flavors possess real verve on the delineated, balanced and focused finish. This also is an excellent villages that is built to age and is also worthy of your consideration. Drink 2018+. Outstanding! |

| BH 88-90 (1/2013): ( from Les Champs Perriers in Brochon.) There is enough reduction present to knock down the nose. | VM 90-92 (1/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from 60-year old vines, 80-years in Champ Perrière (the minimum 40 years old). It has a clean, precise and very focused bouquet that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, plenty of tart red fruit laced with cedar and graphite, leading to a pointed finish that feels persistent and classic in style. Excellent. VM 89-91 (12/2021): The 2020 Gevrey-Chamerbtin Vieilles Vignes offers a mixture of red and black fruit laced with blood orange and quince, nicely focused with a sense of energy developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit. Fine acidity, just slightly confit-like towards the finish that erodes a little of the precision compared to other cuvees, though there is satisgfying length. (Drink between 2025-2040). Neal Martin. BH 88-90 (1/2022): Ripe and nicely layered aromas are comprised by notes of poached plum, warm earth and a whisper of the sauvage. The juicy and fleshy medium weight flavors possess both good volume and verve before terminating in a mildly rustic and warm finale. (Drink starting 2027). |
