| WA 93 (8/2018): Raveneau's 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux is excellent, offering up a youthfully reserved bouquet of apple, white peach, beeswax and dried flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with lovely texture, considerable mid-palate amplitude and a bright line of acidity, concluding with a firm, salty finish that balances its somewhat gourmand attack. Along with the Vaillons, the Butteaux stood out as one of the most complete of Raveneau's premiers crus this year, revealing more and more nuance over several days. Right now, it's quite closed, but I won't be surprised if it becomes quite musky and exotic after a few years in the cellar. |

BH 92 (10/2016): ( from young vines.) Here too there is a plethora of Chablis character on the cool, pure and airy aromas that are comprised of smoky white orchard fruit and various citrus scents that are trimmed in just enough wood to remark upon. The racy, intense and intensely mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess a lovely mouth feel before culminating in a textured, balanced and saline finish that is both dry and tightly wound. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! VM 90 (8/2015): Pale greenish-yellow. Discreet perfume of white flowers and mint. Supple on entry, then a bit leaner and less expressive than the village wine, showing very good cut to its lively citrus and crushed stone flavors. Not an immediate style. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90 (8/2016): The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Forets has a wonderful, granitic bouquet; it is reserved but beautifully defined and very intense. The palate is medium-bodied with touches of orange cordial and a twist of lime. It has a bracing line of acidity and it gently fans out with a slight waxiness towards the finish, which as I suggested from barrel, perhaps just lacks that knockout blow that its fellow Premier Crus deliver. Still, it represents a fine Raveneau. |

| BH 89 (10/2017): A discreet touch of wood sets off the cool and notably floral and citrus-suffused aromas that are composed mainly of ripe white and yellow fruit and petrol nuances. There is once again good volume and mid-palate fat to the rich, round and seductive flavors that are at once sleek but generous, all wrapped in a more complex and persistent finale that also evidences a subtle trace of warmth. Drink 2022+. |

BH 95 (10/2020): This is perhaps the most elegant and floral-infused wine in the range with its array of various white flower scents, especially acacia that are nuanced by wisps of ocean breeze, iodine and algae. The restrained and well-detailed flavors possess a sophisticated and refined mouthfeel while the stony and chiseled finish exhibiting excellent persistence on the bone-dry finish. This is class in a glass and a stunning rendition of the appellation though note well that at least moderate patience is strongly advised. (Drink starting 2030). VM 91 (9/2020): The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a touch more tropical fruit on the nose compared to the Les Butteaux, offering faint passion fruit, white peach and apricot scents with aeration. Lovely definition. The palate is well balanced with a slight waxiness on the entry, and a little pithy in style. Hints of yellow plum and spices emerge toward a finish that develops an appealing creamy texture with time. Excellent. But personally I prefer the nervosité of the Butteaux. (Drink between 2021-2032). WA 92 (8/2021): The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is performing well in bottle, mingling notes of crisp green apple and honeycomb with hints of oyster shell, orange oil and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, its ample core of fruit is girdled by bright acids, before concluding with a saline finish. |

BH 95 (10/2021): A discreet, even timid nose speaks of markedly cool, airy and admirably pure aromas of high-toned floral wisps, iodine and plenty of oyster shell and tidal pool nuances that are trimmed in just enough wood to mention. The racy, mineral-driven and ultra-refined middle weight flavors possess the finest and most delicate texture in the entire range, all wrapped in a strikingly long and strikingly layered finale. This is textbook MdT and a genuine knockout. (Drink starting 2031). VM 93+ (10/2021): The 2019 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru presents an intense bouquet of fresh mint, dill and crushed stone aromas. The palate is very concentrated, dense and weighty, with a slightly more viscous texture than the Butteaux. Notes of dried honey, stem ginger and a pinch of white pepper appear on the finish. This big, bold Montée de Tonnerre is for the long term. (Drink between 2026-2050). Neal Martin. WA 94 (7/2022): Unwinding in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, nutmeg, fresh hazelnuts and white flowers, framed by a deft touch of youthful reduction, the 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a ripe and fleshy core of fruit that's underpinned by racy acids and chalky structure. As in 2020, the Montée de Tonnerre is something of a baby Clos. |

| BH 95 (9/2022): A more elegant and ultra-cool nose reveals its combination of floral, citrus zest, iodine and that briny sea water character the best examples of Chablis all seem to possess, all of which is trimmed in moderate but not invasive wood. There isn't quite the same volume on the palate as the Butteaux, but the middleweight flavors are notably more refined before terminating in a driving, chiseled and citrusy bone-dry finale. I very much like the focused power of the finish and this classy effort should also amply reward extended cellaring. Drink 2032+. |

BH 93 (10/2016): (from relatively young vines based in Montmains proper.) The equally cool and airy nose is much more floral with ample citrus character on the iodine, tidal pool and algae-suffused aromas that are also trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The medium-bodied flavors are finer if less powerful with a lovely mouth feel that continues onto the intensely saline and mineral-inflected finish that is a really lovely combination of depth, length and finesse. This super saline effort is well worth checking out. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! WA 93 (8/2016): The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montmain has a lifted bouquet with granite and slate-like aromas, a little withdrawn at the moment, but you can tell this will repay 3-4 years in bottle. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity, hints of orange rind and lemon zest, good depth in the mouth with fresh pear and quince towards the finish. Impressive, but it will need time. This killer Chablis has a bright future ahead of it. VM 92 (8/2015): Pale, bright yellow-green. Musky aromas and flavors of quinine, mint and white pepper, plus an element of dusty herbs that reminded me of Grüner Veltliner. Densely packed and sharply delineated, displaying lovely energy andfinesse. Very classy Monts Mains with a long rising finish. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 94 (10/2013): (from a .65 ha parcel of very old vines of indeterminate age.) This is actually compositionally similar to the aromatic profile of the Montee de Tonnerre though here the mineral reduction and citrus components are stronger. There is really lovely purity to the punchy, sappy and saline-infused flavors that possess a highly attractive mix of power and refinement, all wrapped in a lemony, driving, even explosive finish that is borderline painfully intense. This beautifully well-balanced effort will require up to a decade to arrive at its peak though it should be approachable young. Drink 2019+. VM 94 (8/2013): Layers of rich, expressive fruit resonate off the palate as the 2011 Chablis Blanchot emerges from the glass. A picture-perfect example of the vintage, the Blanchot is super-expressive, even at this early stage. Citrus, honey and spice nuances flesh out in an expansive, generous Chablis that will drink well with minimum cellaring. Antonio Galloni. |
