| WA 93 (8/2018): Raveneau's 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux is excellent, offering up a youthfully reserved bouquet of apple, white peach, beeswax and dried flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with lovely texture, considerable mid-palate amplitude and a bright line of acidity, concluding with a firm, salty finish that balances its somewhat gourmand attack. Along with the Vaillons, the Butteaux stood out as one of the most complete of Raveneau's premiers crus this year, revealing more and more nuance over several days. Right now, it's quite closed, but I won't be surprised if it becomes quite musky and exotic after a few years in the cellar. |

| BH 92 (10/2019): (from 1.49 holding of 40+ year old vines.) Wafting aromas of essence of pear, iodine and copious amounts of mineral reduction are also trimmed in just enough wood to mention. The succulent yet powerful broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent muscle and intensity on the super-saline, indeed this has an almost salty finish. Fine quality here and built-to-age as well. Drink 2027+. Outstanding! |

| BH 95 (9/2022): A more reserved nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of mineral reduction, essence of green apple, lemon-lime and a variety of Chablis elements that include iodine, tidal pool and quinine along with moderate wood. There is excellent volume to the intense, detailed and tautly muscular flavors that display superb length on the balanced, youthfully austere and dry finale. This powerful and compact effort is flat out terrific and while it can't match the refinement of the Montée de Tonnerre, it is just as complete. If you can find it, buy it. Drink 2032+. |

BH 92 (10/2016): ( from young vines.) Here too there is a plethora of Chablis character on the cool, pure and airy aromas that are comprised of smoky white orchard fruit and various citrus scents that are trimmed in just enough wood to remark upon. The racy, intense and intensely mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess a lovely mouth feel before culminating in a textured, balanced and saline finish that is both dry and tightly wound. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! VM 90 (8/2015): Pale greenish-yellow. Discreet perfume of white flowers and mint. Supple on entry, then a bit leaner and less expressive than the village wine, showing very good cut to its lively citrus and crushed stone flavors. Not an immediate style. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90 (8/2016): The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Forets has a wonderful, granitic bouquet; it is reserved but beautifully defined and very intense. The palate is medium-bodied with touches of orange cordial and a twist of lime. It has a bracing line of acidity and it gently fans out with a slight waxiness towards the finish, which as I suggested from barrel, perhaps just lacks that knockout blow that its fellow Premier Crus deliver. Still, it represents a fine Raveneau. |

| BH 89 (10/2017): A discreet touch of wood sets off the cool and notably floral and citrus-suffused aromas that are composed mainly of ripe white and yellow fruit and petrol nuances. There is once again good volume and mid-palate fat to the rich, round and seductive flavors that are at once sleek but generous, all wrapped in a more complex and persistent finale that also evidences a subtle trace of warmth. Drink 2022+. |

VM 92 (8/2015): Pale, bright yellow. Tangy aromas of orange, lemon, crushed stone and smoke. Fine-grained and deep, displaying lovely depth to its citrus and floral flavors. Showing a bit more oak than most of the other 2013s, as the Raveneaus used what Bernard described as "younger old barrels" to age this wine. In an essentially fruity, supple style, finishing with good energy and fresh herbal lift. Stephen Tanzer. BH 92 (10/2015): (from several parcels totaling 2.5 ha with two-thirds of it in Chapelot and the remainder in Pied d'Aloup.) Along with the Blanchots this is the most floral wine in the range with its elegant nose of pear, apple, spice and soft apricot nuances that exhibit just enough Chablis typicity to be persuasive. There is a lovely sense of vibrancy to the delicious and very rounded medium-bodied flavors that possess fine depth and excellent length on the mouth coating and powerful finish. While not quite at its usual level this is certainly a fine effort in the context of the vintage. Drink 2020+. Outstanding! WA 90+ (11/2016): Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre has a fragrant bouquet with citrus lemon, yellow flowers and orange blossom scents, a fine threat of mineralite underneath. The palate is well balanced with a rounded, peachy entry. There seems to be a bit if new oak here but it is nicely integrated and imparts attractive praline notes towards the finish. This simply needs more time. |

| BH 95 (9/2022): A more elegant and ultra-cool nose reveals its combination of floral, citrus zest, iodine and that briny sea water character the best examples of Chablis all seem to possess, all of which is trimmed in moderate but not invasive wood. There isn't quite the same volume on the palate as the Butteaux, but the middleweight flavors are notably more refined before terminating in a driving, chiseled and citrusy bone-dry finale. I very much like the focused power of the finish and this classy effort should also amply reward extended cellaring. Drink 2032+. |

BH 93 (10/2016): (from relatively young vines based in Montmains proper.) The equally cool and airy nose is much more floral with ample citrus character on the iodine, tidal pool and algae-suffused aromas that are also trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The medium-bodied flavors are finer if less powerful with a lovely mouth feel that continues onto the intensely saline and mineral-inflected finish that is a really lovely combination of depth, length and finesse. This super saline effort is well worth checking out. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! WA 93 (8/2016): The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montmain has a lifted bouquet with granite and slate-like aromas, a little withdrawn at the moment, but you can tell this will repay 3-4 years in bottle. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity, hints of orange rind and lemon zest, good depth in the mouth with fresh pear and quince towards the finish. Impressive, but it will need time. This killer Chablis has a bright future ahead of it. VM 92 (8/2015): Pale, bright yellow-green. Musky aromas and flavors of quinine, mint and white pepper, plus an element of dusty herbs that reminded me of Grüner Veltliner. Densely packed and sharply delineated, displaying lovely energy andfinesse. Very classy Monts Mains with a long rising finish. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 94 (8/2016): The 2014 Chablis 1Er Cru Vaillons has a gorgeous bouquet, far superior to the 2015, bridled with scents of apricot blossom, guava and wet limestone that are all beautifully defined. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, very saline in the mouth with a long and persistent finish. You can sense the animation in the mouth. This is a fabulous Chablis Vaillons that shimmers with glee. BH 92 (10/2016): (95% from vines situated in Vaillons proper with the remainder in Sechet.) A pungent nose displays notes of green fruit, sea water, iodine and discreet grapefruit scents. There is a really lovely texture to the caressing middle weight flavors that possess a borderline aggressive minerality, all wrapped in a lemony and once again intensely saline finale that is markedly dry but not really austere. This is excellent and also worth considering. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! VM 90 (7/2016): Reticent nose shows little in the way of fruit. Quite tightly wound and dry, conveying a lemony edge and hints of peppery herbs. Much less exuberant than usual for this wine at this stage. Will it expand in bottle? (I noted a similar hardness and astringency in my recently bottled sample a year.) Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 93 (10/2015): This is aromatically less elegant but more complex with its pretty array of spicy white and slightly exotic orchard fruit scents that display ample Chablis character. The intense middle weight plus flavors possess good volume as well as excellent richness on the opulent and mouth coating finish that somehow manages to retain a sense of refinement, indeed this could accurately be described as combining power with finesse. Note that while this will certainly be capable of reward mid-term cellaring it will also drink well early on if desired. Drink 2020+. VM 93 (8/2015): Pale yellow. Explosive perfume of soft citrus fruits, flowers, ginger and crushed rock. Rich and multidimensional, conveying an impression of energy to its floral and powdered stone flavors. Long on the the aftertaste. The crop level from this 1970 planting was 50 hectoliters per hectare. Should offer considerable early sex appeal. Stephen Tanzer. WA 94 (8/2015): The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur has an extremely well defined bouquet with what feels like more precision than the Blanchots. Here, there is a touch of generosity with almond and even a very slight creme brûlee scent. The palate is very well balanced, more vivacious and charming than the curmudgeonly Blanchots with a sensual, caressing and lightly spiced finish that is just very...Valmur. This is superb. |

| BH 93 (10/2017): The fresh and expressive nose offers up notes of strong mineral reduction, green fruit, lemon-lime, tidal pool and oyster shell hints. The full-bodied, rich and muscular big-bodied flavors are succulent and wonderfully textured while delivering outstanding length on the stony, focused and explosive finish. As Raveneau's Valmur almost always is, this is a powerful and serious wine that will require at least 4 to 5 years of cellaring and reward at least a decade's worth. Drink 2025+. |
