BH 87 (7/2005): From a bottle with a perfect fill. The nose is aged but not post-mature with spice and earth plus a slightly funky animale aroma that leads to rich and moderately complex flavors that are now almost completely resolved and in what is rare for most '83s, no dryness on the backend. In sum, this is a perfectly good effort but no standout and one that I would be consuming relatively soon as there is no where to go but down from here. Note: from another ostensibly perfect bottle with virtually no ullage also tasted in 2005. Good deep color but there are fairly strong lactic acid aromas dominating the nose and while it was drinkable, it wasn't particularly enjoyable.
