BH 94 (11/2009): A very ripe black cherry, pepper and crushed herb nose is trimmed in discreet wood spice that can also be found on the rich to the point of opulent broad-scaled flavors that are strikingly concentrated and oozing with dry extract yet retain a fine sense of precision on the explosively long finish. Meo has been generally looking for a bit more weight and punch with this wine and over the last few vintages and he certainly has achieved it here without sacrificing the elegance that has always characterized the Meo Clos de Vougeot. This most recent bottle seems even slightly more promising than I originally thought and I have upgraded it by one point as well as extended the expected initial drinking window. Try from 2022+.
VM 92+ (4/2008): Good deep red-ruby color. Wild black and red cherry aroma complicated by a truffley nuance. Creamy and fine-grained, with an uncanny thickness for this cuvee As rich as this is, though, it also boasts very good inner-mouth lift. "I don't really recall having this kind of creaminess in this cuvee," Meo admits. "Maybe the '99 approaches this." Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 95-97 (12/2020): The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is quite closed on the nose, offering discreet blackberry, raspberry and light violet aromas that you might mistake for a Vosne-Romanée. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins. This is a juicy Clos de Vougeot, a little savory and quite peppery on the finish, which you might misconstrue as a result of some stem addition. BH 90-93 (1/2008): (from a .45 ha parcel of 70-year-old vines). A very ripe, pure and expressive nose of spicy red and black fruit aromas nuanced by hints of game, smoke, tea, leather and lovely violet notes framed in moderate wood combines with sappy, dense and naturally sweet full-bodied flavors that possess a really seductively suave texture and a supple but precise finish that is both profound and hugely long. This is a knockout where the only nit is a trace of finishing warmth but otherwise, I was extremely impressed as this is stylish and utterly classy. Drink 2014+. Don't miss!
WA 90 (12/2009): Fascinatingly sweetly smoky and mineral suggestions of machine oil, metal shavings, and crushed stone mingle with ripe black raspberry and chocolate in the nose of Meo's 2006 Corton Clos Rognet. Like its Clos Vougeot sibling, this is rather massive at least in its youth and its tannins are quite evident, probably all the more so due to the wine's extreme sense of softness (from high pH) and faintly noticeable alcohol. But sheer richness and sweetness render this impressive in its way, and time in bottle may make for refinement and nuance. I would not plan to revisit this before 2011 and anticipate at least a decade's total useful life. |

BH 89-92 (1/2006): A discernable but not aggressive touch of wood frames a wonderfully spicy mix of red and black berry fruit aromas and full, sweet and seductively textured medium full flavors that are impressively pure and culminate in a dusty, intense and long finish where the wood again arrives with a bit more prominence than on the nose. Solid quality here and very classy though this may very well always carry a bit of wood influence. (Drink starting 2012).
VM 88-90 (3/2006): Good medium red. Hints of very ripe fruits, chocolate, caramel and sweet oak, along with a peppery element. Sweet and creamy on the front half, then a bit less obviously ripe on the back. But the tannins are easier than those of the Chaumes. Stephen Tanzer. |

Once again there is a highly attractive texture to the medium-bodied flavors that don't yet possess the same complexity though there is even better persistence to the somewhat more structured finale. My sense is that this will add more depth with age and will eventually surpass the Murgers. |

BH 93-96 (1/2010): (from a .37 ha parcel in Les Veroilles of 40+ year old vines save for a very tiny parcel in Richebourg proper.) A very fresh, expressive, pure and stunningly spicy nose of notably ripe black and purple pinot fruit and a host of subtle Asian spice nuances, including star anise, hoisin and soy that are in keeping with the deep, serious, tautly muscled and mineral-suffused broad shouldered flavors brimming with dry extract that really coats the palate on the vibrant, precise, mineral-driven and hugely long finish that is linear but less austere than usual. An excellent '08 with terrific development potential. Drink 2023+.
WS 94 (12/2010): Reserved now, this nascent red is concentrated, displaying black currant, violet, spice and mineral aromas and flavors, all matched to a silky texture. This is elegant and a picture of finesse, though there's structure on the back end. Shows fine harmony and length, but needs time. Best from 2015 through 2035. 1 cases imported.
VM 93-96 (4/2010): Good full red. Wonderfully sappy aromas of raspberry, orange peel, rose petal and flinty, smoky minerality. Compellingly sweet but utterly primary, with terrific energy and definition to the flavors of red fruits and pungent minerals. Perfectly balanced wine; less creamy today than the Brulees but even more sharply delineated. Perhaps most impressive on the explosive rising finish, which shows more fruits and minerals than tannins.
WA 92-93 (6/2010): Meo-Camuzet’s 2008 Richebourg strikes me as their most obviously tannic wine of the vintage, despite the confitured intensity and plush richness of its black fruits. The effect of wood - whether or not this includes amplification of tannin - comes out here in a flattering way via a maple syrup-like amalgam of resin and caramel. Sweet, decadent floral perfume; brown spices; and crushed stone add palate interest, though the staining concentration of this wine’s finish is at least as yet somewhat undifferentiated and accompanied by gum-numbing intensity of tannin. When racked, this was “explosive" reports Meo, and the metaphor of a bomb sunk into the earth and topped with sandbags does strike me as potentially useful for a Pinot grand cru I would not want to touch for 5-7 years and which seems built to last for more than twice that long. |

BH 95-97 (1/2012): ( from a .37 ha parcel in Les Veroilles of 40+ year old vines save for a very tiny parcel in Richebourg proper.) This is almost aromatically mute at present and while a plethora of spice notes are visible, it requires aggressive swirling to liberate them. As with the Brûlees, there is an intoxicating inner mouth perfume where the opulence of the spice notes really becomes obvious. The stony, intense and strikingly well-detailed broad-shouldered flavors possess ample amounts of power and a sleek muscularity before terminating in a driving and explosive finish. This is exceptionally firmly structured and this is one to buy and forget in the cellar. Spectacular. Drink 2030+. Don't miss!
VM 95-98 (1/2012): Good bright red-ruby. Black raspberry, cassis, violet, dark chocolate, licorice and cinnamon on the restrained but very pure nose and palate. The subtly complex palate offers compelling sweetness and early charm, making this wine much easier to taste today than the Cros Parantoux. Wonderfully pliant Richebourg, delivering an exhilarating combination of sweetness and spice. The finish saturates the entire palate, with noble tannins buried under a wave of flavor.
WA 94-97 (2/2012): The 2010 Richebourg shows off considerable vibrancy and sheer tannic heft. A core of dark red fruit drives through the mid-palate as this energetic, vibrant wine opens up in the glass. The wine turns layered and finessed on the finish, with piercing mineral notes that add a crystalline purity that is striking. Patience will be key here. |

VM 92-95 (2/2013): Good bright red. Very locked up on the nose, hinting at red cherry, black raspberry, stone and spicy oak. Dense but very tight, showing little today in the way of fruit. Most impressive on the explosive, rising, classically dry finish, which displays pungent minerality. Meo noted that this wine was "open and charming ten days ago; now it's more typical." |

| BH 90-92 (1/2016): Once again there is a discreet but not invisible application of wood setting off the very Vosne-like nose of Asian-style tea, sandalwood, violet, dark berry and a lovely mix of spice elements. The spiciness continues onto the supple and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a delicious and lingering finish. This isn't as concentrated as the Boudots and it's not quite as structured either but it is certainly pretty and should drink well sooner. |
