| BH 89-92 (1/2012): (from a .60 ha parcel of 40+ year old vines.) A relatively elegant nose features notes of red currant, blue berry and violets that merge seamlessly into round, pure and refined middle weight flavors that possess both good concentration and fine structural element ripeness, all wrapped in a mouth coating, firm and long finish. I like the balance here and despite the firmness of the tannins, this isn't rustic. Drink 2018+. |

BH 90-92 (1/2006): This too is rather reserved and backward, revealing only glimpses of the dark, spicy and seductively pure pinot fruit aromas that are less evolved and more primary than those of the Pruliers. The concentration and depth of material is a small but important step up, particularly on the mid-palate with its textured, sweet and mouth coating quality as well as the focused and wonderfully persistent finish. As usual, this is most impressive and should age very well yet drink well in the medium term. (Drink starting 2012). VM 89-91 (3/2006): Medium red. Expressive aromas of cherry, raspberry, minerals and leather. Suave and chewy, with firm but pliant red fruit and mineral flavors lifted by a floral character. This is nicely perfumed in the mouth and conveys an impression of energy. Finishes with good spine and grip, but without any hardness. Still quite youthful. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 92-93 (6/2010): Peat, wood smoke, leather, and soy in the nose of Chevillons’ 2008 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Cailles are joined and complimented by rich cherry and plum on the stubbornly gum-coating palate. A tart fruit skin edge; fruit pit piquancy; brown spices; chalky underpinnings; and saliva-inducing salinity all contribute to the invigoration and vibratory, lip-quivering intensity of a multi-faceted finish. There is certain handsome leanness here - bordering on austerity - but what a lot of energy as well! Lock some away for half a dozen years and expect it to perform impressively until at least age 18. VM 91-94 (4/2010): (racked in July) Deep, bright red. Superripe, complex nose melds berries, violet, damp earth and a whiff of balsamic vinegar. Wonderfully silky and suave on entry, then spicy and pure in the middle, with a very fresh black cherry flavor dominating underlying earth and floral notes. This spreads out impressively on the back end, with broad tannins saturating the palate. BH 91-94 (1/2010): (from a 1.12 ha parcel of 75+ year old vines). The most complex array of aromas to this point with an airy, elegant and classy nose brimming with violets, anise, earth and red currant notes that complement to perfection the rich, full-bodied, generous and round medium weight plus flavors that explode onto the hugely long and powerful finish. A wine that manages to pull off the rare feat of being at once imposing yet highly refined. Drink 2017+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

BH 92-94 (1/2013): As complex as the Pruliers is, the Les Cailles ratchets it up yet another notch with its spicy and pure blend of cassis, plum, violet and distinct iron-infused earth. There is excellent richness to the cool and equally pure medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent focus on the explosively long finish. The tannins are dense but quite fine and this offers outstanding upside development potential. (Drink starting 2023). VM 0-93 (1/2013): Good full, bright red. Very ripe, deep nose offers pomegranate, cranberry and pungent crushed-stone minerality. Very rich and silky; a step up in density from the Pruliers. Thick and chocolatey but with very good lift and verve. Finishes with complex soil tones and serious tannins that will require five or six years of cellaring. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90 (11/2014): Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles 2011 offers quite prominent and luscious (for the vintage) fruit on the nose with generous oak, however it is deftly integrated with the succulent, tart red cherry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Again, I find that the oak is a little conspicuous, though underneath there is plenty of candied red fruit interlaced with orange peel and tangerine on the feminine, lithe finish. Give this two or three years in bottle and you will have a pretty Nuits Saint Georges. |

| VM 93 (12/2020): The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru was very closed on the nose despite encouragement, only reluctantly revealing dense black fruit, briar and melted tar aromas, plus a touch of tobacco right at the end. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fresh and saline, and that marine influence carries through to the structured, slightly gritty finish. Rough around the edges at the moment; give this 4–5 years before broaching. Neal Martin. |

| BH 92-95 (1/2024): An ultra-fresh nose exhibits an airy array of essence of red cherry, cranberry and lavender that is trimmed in noticeable but not intrusive wood. The cool, pure and equally fresh medium weight flavors possess terrific vibrancy along with first-rate delineation on the refined, focused and youthfully austere finish that delivers sneaky good length. The innate class of a fine Cailles is clearly present and I very much like the overall sense of harmony. If you can find it, buy it. Drink 2034+. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2016): An elegant, pure and airy nose offers up notes of red cherry, pomegranate, lavender and a hint of earth. This is much more mineral-driven than any of the prior wines with its beautifully detailed medium weight flavors that also possess focused power on the saline, dusty and balanced finish that displays sneaky length. This lovely effort will need at least a decade of bottle age. Drink 2024+. |

BH 89-91 (1/2006): Here the nose runs to much deeper register aromas of earthy black and violet fruit aromas with a touch of mushroom with richer, gamier and more muscular flavors that are clearly more masculine in basic character as well as less accessible and tighter. There is good overall concentration and a precise, velvety, sweet finish that displays the barest hint of warmth. Drink 2012+. Outstanding! VM 88-90 (4/2006): Good deep red. Sweet aromas of redcurrant, raspberry and minerals, complicated by sexy oak spices. Densely packed, oaky and sweet, with raspberry and milk chocolate flavors carrying through onto the lingering finish, which features dusty, tactile tannins. |

| VM 92-94 (1/2020): The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a very perfumed and floral bouquet with wilted rose petal and touches of lavender infusing the mainly red berry fruit. I appreciate the detail and delineation of this N.S.G. The palate is very fine and matched with a superb line of acidity, the lively red fruit laced with subtle hickory and white pepper notes, fanning out nicely toward the finish while maintaining superb freshness. This is perhaps the most immediately enjoyable of Chevillon’s 2018s. Neal Martin. |

WA 91-92 (4/2007): The 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Roncieres offers a fascinating Cabernet Franc-like hint of machine oil along with ripe red cherry, tobacco, cedar, and wood smoke in the nose. Clean, sweet, bright fruit makes for an intense and refreshing palate impression and the finish introduces carnal notes, faint bitterness of herbal concentrate, persistent ripe red fruit with invigorating tart fruit skin notes, and a hint of new wood that Chevillon says is there because this wine was so late to go through malo and to be racked out of its initial one-third new wood and into older barrels. BH 89-92 (1/2007): Here the lateness of the malos is in evidence as the nose is almost raw with traces of fermentation aromas and reduction though the medium plus weight flavors are detailed, racy and offer more minerality than usual. I tried this from several different barrels, including one from a new barrel that was further developed and the material is impressive and it's possible that my score could be conservative. Outstanding! Drink 2013+. VM 87-90 (4/2007): Bright red-ruby. Cherry, redcurrant, leather and tobacco; offers a noble Nuits-Saint-Georges rusticity. Broad and sweet, with good minerality but a lower pitch than the Perrieres. A bit less open today owing to the later end to the malolactic fermentation. Finishes with substantial chewy tannins and hints of tobacco and leather. |

BH 90-93 (1/2006): Here the nose is ever-so-slightly more elegant with a fruitier and more expressive quality with less earth and more red pinot fruit aromas though all the complexity and perhaps even a touch more. The flavors are classy, fine and wonderfully pure and crafted in a supple and perfectly balanced style that delivers outstanding length and striking intensity. As it usually is, this is a model of refinement and understated grace. (Drink starting 2012). VM 90-92 (3/2006): Good red-ruby. Reticent, pure aroma of medicinal black cherry. Silky and suave on the palate but a bit more austere and reserved today than the Cailles. Lovely cherry and raspberry fruit is framed by minerality. This mounts slowly and impressively, coating the palate with flavor. When a Nuits-Saint-George wine is velvety like this one is, it's almost invariably Les Saint-Georges. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 94 (12/2009): Ethereal, distilled kirsch and framboise notes in the nose of Chevillon 2006 Nuits-St.-Georges Les St.-Georges usher in a liqueur-like palate display, mingling sweet dark berries with marzipan, chocolate, toasted hazelnut, peat, and crushed stone. This displays a more roasted richness than other Chevillon 2006s, along with a sheer sweetness of fruit that seem to typify this site in the vintage, rendering it far more youthfully accessible than normal. That said, it by no means lacks for mineral or for roasted, meaty dimensions, and I imagine it will be worth following for at least a dozen years. The underlying tannic structure is present, simply swathed in what I anticipate to be a more than ample and renewable concentration of fruit. This beauty merits following for a dozen or more years. WS 92 (12/2008): Gorgeous violet, blackberry, raspberry and mineral aromas and flavors pulse through this rich, firm, elegant red. Well-proportioned and polished, it's delicious now, but will it age? Give this the benefit of the doubt, but enjoy for its youthful fruit. Drink now through 2018. 35 cases imported. VM 91-94 (4/2008): Good ruby-red. High-pitched, pristine nose offers raspberry coulis, minerals and fresh flowers. Wonderfully fine-grained and sweet but with a medicinal reserve today. This very rich, superripe wine offers insinuating intensity. Its superb underlying fat is hidden by tangy acidity and firm structure. Finishes very sweet, stylish and long. An Outstanding showing, and a classic example of this vintage at its best. BH 91-93 (1/2008): (from a .60 ha parcel of 75+ year old vines). Here the equally elegant fruit profile runs more to the red side of the spectrum though it is perhaps not quite as complex yet the rich, round and stylish flavors are actually more complex with a delicious, powerful and seriously long finish that packs a real punch. A wine that should mature well over the medium term. Drink 2014+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

BH 91 (1/2007): An atypically high-toned nose of briar, wood spice and red pinot fruit aromas laced with warm earth and hints of smoke and game lead to sweet, sappy, intense and structured flavors that offer good if not Outstanding concentration yet the power, length, balance and overall punch are most impressive. As it usually is, this is a serious wine though more elegant than normal and finishes with a classically complex and firmly structured backend that is fresh and vibrant. An excellent '04 and recommended. Drink 2011+. Outstanding! VM 91 (3/2007): Good full medium red. Ripe, sappy aroma of cherry, flowers and minerals. Sweet and sappy in the mouth, with lovely penetrating acidity and noteworthy aromatic lift. A much gentler and less thick style than the 2005 but I love this wine's firm spine of tannins and acids and its inner-mouth tension. Mounts slowly and lingers impressively on the back. |

WA 94 (12/2009): Cassis and black raspberry take on both liqueur-like richness and distillate-like high tones in the Chevillon 2006 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains - analogous to the expression of ripeness in other wines of this collection. And here, too, the roasted sense of low-toned richness suggests chocolate and peat, while bitter notes of fruit pit and iodine add welcome contrast and further basis for fugal interchange of flavors in a long, intensely concentrated finish. On the one hand, this seems more embryonic than its fellow crus, but on the other hand its opulence and interplay of flavors are already utterly seductive and intriguing. In any case, however much of this one acquires, it would be foolish not to stretch those bottles out over a dozen or more years. VM 92-95 (4/2008): Bright, deep ruby-red. Aromas of dark berry liqueur and bitter chocolate are sappy and liqueur-like but with Outstanding energy. Quite full and powerful for a wine from this cellar, with Outstanding sweetness and breadth to its flavors of blackberry, chocolate and roast coffee. Downright explosive on the finish, the noble tannins totally buffered by a wave of fruit. BH 91-94 (1/2008): ( from a 1.5 ha parcel). A brooding and much more reserved nose is densely fruited with notes of plum, blueberry, earth and a subtle sauvage hint that mouth coating and impressively concentrated flavors that positively explode on the gorgeously long finish. As it always is, this is a big and powerful wine yet with a bit more elegance than usual. Terrific and potentially the class of the range in 2006. Drink 2016+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

| BH 92-95 (1/2016): Ample wood spice is present on the brooding and deeply pitched nose of plum, dark currant, smoked meat and sauvage scents. Though this is an overtly powerful and muscular wine the seductively textured mid-palate is velvety thanks to the copious amount of dry extract that also buffers the notably firm tannic spine on the gorgeously long finale. This strikingly good effort will be approachable somewhat earlier than usual but make no mistake this is still going to require a long stay in a cool cellar. |

| VM 92-94 (1/2020): The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru matches Chevillon’s Les Saint-Georges pound for pound in terms of intensity and precision, offering brambly black fruit, crushed rock, tangerine and raspberry preserve scents that blossom with aeration. The medium-bodied palate features very supple tannins and pitch-perfect acidity, although perhaps at the moment the Les Saint-Georges demonstrates more complexity and terroir expression toward the finish. The Vaucrains is more introspective and remains a little aloof on the finish (at least for now). One for the cellar. Neal Martin. |
