WA 94 (10/2020): A blend of 80% Grenache and 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, all grown in a limestone-rich clos, the 2018 Gigondas Clos Derriere Vieille is floral and resinously herbal, with stemmy notes accenting mixed berries. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky and ripe yet vibrant, with ample complexity allied to admirable acid-tannin balance. It should drink well for up to a decade. VM 94 (1/2023): Vibrant ruby. Spice- and mineral-accented red fruits, pungent flowers and exotic spices on the highly perfumed nose. Palate-coating raspberry, bitter cherry, candied lavender and star anise flavors steadily deepen and become sweeter as the wine opens up. Shows strong intensity and fine detail on a long, gently tannic finish that echoes the red fruit and spice notes. Raised in a combination of Stockinger foudres and large, clay amphoras. (Drink between 2025-2035). Josh Raynolds. JD 93 (10/2020): The 2018 Gigondas Clos Derriere Vieille comes from older vines behind the village, and it shows a more complex, stemmy, old-school style while still possessing purity and elegance that’s the hallmark of this estate today. Lovely notes of wild strawberries, blueberries, and sappy garrigue and pepper all emerge from this more medium to full-bodied, seamless 2018 that has plenty of upfront charm yet should evolve gracefully for 10 to 12 years. |

| WA 95-98 (2/2009): Unlike any of Yves Gras’ other wines, the 2007 Gigondas 66 is 100% Grenache (from 75-80-year old vines). This offering is extraordinary. It is a profound example of old vine Grenache from the cooler micro-climates of Gigondas. Its deep purple color is followed by a stunningly rich nose of raspberry liqueur intermixed with licorice, flowers, lavender, and pepper. Full-bodied, sumptuously-textured, and multilayered with a finish that lasts 45 seconds, this should prove to be an utterly compelling wine that will evolve for 15-20 years. Sadly, production is relatively limited. |

VM 96 (1/2023): Shimmering ruby-red. A deeply perfumed, complex bouquet evokes red/blue fruit preserves, potpourri, incense and smoky minerals. Alluringly sweet and energetic in style, offering concentrated cherry-cola, Chambord, boysenberry, lavender, botanical herb and exotic spice flavors that spread out slowly on the back half. Deftly melds power and finesse and finishes extremely long. Focused and subtly tannic, with resonating florality and emphatic, spicy cut. (Drink between 2025-2035). Josh Raynolds. JD 96 (10/2020): The flagship is 2018 Gigondas Les Hautes Garrigues and is another red from this estate that does everything right. Deep ruby/purple-colored with a brilliant bouquet of ripe wild strawberries, blueberries, ground pepper, garrigue, and new saddle leather, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, flawless balance, and building yet seamless tannins. It’s certainly in the new style of this estate and is beautifully done. Enjoy bottles anytime over the coming two decades. WA 96 (10/2020): A 50-50 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre this vintage, the 2018 Gigondas Les Hautes Garrigues is more open and approachable than the somewhat dense and closed 2017. Floral hints of garrigue appear on the nose, and the fruit is less concentrated and suppler, making it easier to drink now. Mixed berries mark the full-bodied palate, framed by silky tannins and bright acids, leading into a long, mouthwatering finish. |
