| BH 90 (1/2014): Discreet wood frames somber dark berry fruit aromas that are liberally laced with earth, humus, game and smoke nuances. There is excellent richness and intensity to the round and silky-textured flavors that display good energy before terminating in a solidly complex and impressively persistent finish where a hint of bitterness is present. The supporting structure seems sufficiently ripe and as such my score offers the benefit of the doubt that the bitterness is simply a post-bottling phase. Drink 2021+. |

| VM 92-94 (1/2018): Bright red-ruby. Slightly medicinal aromas of blackberry, licorice and violet complicated by a rocky quality. Pungent, tangy and high-pitched, offering a very fine-grained texture to its flavors of cassis, black cherry and violet; aeration brought a slightly less black note of raspberry and sexy savory soil tones. From vines on very shallow soil just across the Route des Grands Crus from Chambertin, this wine offers terrific punch and building sweetness. Both these vines and those in Mazoyères-Chambertin were planted shortly after World War II but a small part of the Charmes was replanted in 1998. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 91 (1/2018): A fresh, ripe and very Gevrey nose reflects plenty of earth, sauvage and humus characters on the dark currant and softly floral aromas. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension and minerality to the dusty, precise and sleekly muscular flavors that culminate in a notably firm but not especially austere or backward finale. This should reward up to 10 years of cellaring yet be approachable after 5 or so. Drink 2023+. Outstanding! |

BH 92 (1/2009): As is virtually always the case, this is bigger and more robust though at the price of less elegance with a much earthier and more obviously sauvage character on the red and dark berry fruit nose that introduces rich, full and more serious big-bodied flavors underpinned by more robust and rustic tannins though not any more depth or length. A qualitative choice that favors ever so slightly the Mazoyères but note that the respective characters are miles apart. Drink: 2015+.
WS 88 (12/2009): There's a whiff of rubber at first. This needs air to reveal its blackberry, plum and mineral flavors, but the tannins are slightly gritty and dry in this beefy red. Best from 2011 through 2018. 25 cases imported. |
