| WA 95 (2/2008): Hard as it may seem to believe, the 2004 Terra di Lavoro is even better. It opens with compelling, beguiling aromas of ash, tar, smoke and spices that lead to waves of dark fruit that coat the palate with superb intensity and depth. Structured and seamless at the same time, the 2004 Terra di Lavoro is a remarkable wine in every way. I am probably being overly optimistic but I hope this wine might be approachable by age ten or so. It is a joyous wine, and those fortunate enough to own it will have to exercise considerable patience. As profound as the 2004 is, I think we still haven’t seen the best this estate is capable of. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. |

| WA 93 (8/2010): The 2005 Terra di Lavoro is an excellent choice for readers seeking a fairly approachable vintage that won’t require extended cellaring. Because of the cold summer, this is a rather delicate Terra di Lavoro laced with red cherries, crushed flowers and a fresh, vinous quality I find highly appealing. The 2005 is a mid-weight Terra di Lavoro, but the lively acidity should allow the wine to age gracefully for a number of years. The aromatics and flavors aren’t fully developed, but with some air the 2005 is relatively approachable today. It is a beautiful Terra di Lavoro that only suffers from the wines surrounding it. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025. |

VM 97 (8/2010): I am thrilled with the 2006 Terra di Lavoro, which easily lives up to the praise I bestowed upon it last year. This wasn’t an easy vintage for Galardi. The weather was uneven, and a drastic selection was necessary in the cellar. Overall production was even lower in 2006 than in 2005, but the estate’s commitment to quality paid off in a big way. The 2006 Terra di Lavoro presents an intriguing combination of compelling inner sweetness wrapped around a firm, imposing frame. This is a very Barolo-like Terra di Lavoro that gradually opens up to reveal is pedigree, with endless layers of fruit and an eternal finish. Readers who own the 2006 are fortunate, but significant patience is required. This is a majestic Terra di Lavoro. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036. JS 95 (8/2013): Fresh aromas of herbs and dark fruits such as blackberries and bramble berries. It's minerally too with a volcanic ash undertone. Full and silky with lots of fruit and a long, intense finish. Superb quality. Beautiful now. Made from organically grown grapes: 80 percent Aglianico and 20 percent Piedirosso. |

| WA 97+ (8/2010): Galardi’s 2008 Terra di Lavoro is a legend in the making. It is a fabulously ripe, rich and seductive wine endowed with beautifully articulated dark plums, ash, leather, licorice, all of which meld together in an explosive, utterly thrilling display of class and elegance. Clean, mineral notes frame the eternal finish. Today the 2008 is impossibly young and the wine will require considerable patience, but its class, pedigree and potential are all first-rate. Simply put, the 2008 is a monumental Terra di Lavoro. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038. |

WA 93 (6/2011): I suppose after so many important vintages it is only natural that Mother Nature takes a break. Terra di Lavoro is usually a huge wine in its youth, but not so in 2009. This is one of the most open, approachable young Terra di Lavoros I have ever tasted. The wine shows good intensity in its dark fruit, with layers of ash, smoke, crushed flowers and minerals that develop in the glass. The 2009 is a pretty, accessible Terra di Lavoro that will make a great introduction for readers who are new to the wine and don't want to wait for some of the more important vintages to come around. Terra di Lavoro is 80% Aglianico and 20% Piedirosso. The 2009 spent 14 months in French oak barrels, 70% new. Readers who want to see how some of the older vintages are developing may want to take a look at notes from my vertical tasting last year, published in Issue 190. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. WS 92 (2/2012): This compact, smoky red features a core of tightly wound raspberry, blackberry and cherry skin notes. Full-bodied, yet fresh, with silky tannins and a firm, smoky minerality driving the fine finish. Aglianico and Piedirosso. Best from 2013 through 2023. 2,700 cases made. |

WA 97+ (2/2013): I hope one day to have another chance to taste a vertical of Roccamonfina Terra di Lavoro because I have a strong feeling the 2010 will occupy a place among the very finest vintages produced on this tiny vineyard on the slopes of the Roccamonfina volcano. An exotic melange of tar, smoke, graphite, blackberry jam and savory herbs explode from the glass. The 2010 is intense and full-bodied, yet also incredibly elegant. A big, breathtaking wine, the 2010 continues to build all the way through to a deeply resonant, expressive finish. I would choose to leave this uttterly beguiling Campanian red alone for the better part of a decade, but readers are going to have a very hard time excercising that patience. This is a fabulous effort from proprietors Arturo and Dora Celentano, and their long-time winemaker Riccardo Cotarella. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. WS 93 (12/2012): A dark, beefy red, with layers of game, underbrush and wild herb to the dark blackberry, cassis and plum skin notes. Full yet fine tannins add grip, as the fruit and hints of mocha and ash highlight the finish. Best from 2014 through 2025. 5,500 cases made. |

JS 97 (2/2014): Complex aromas of blackberry, stones, cracked black pepper and tar. Full body with soft, round tannins and a juicy, fruity finish. Soulful and refined from this estate. This is a magical wine from Southern Italy. WS 92 (4/2014): There's drive to this well-meshed, sanguine red, offering flavors of herbs, dried currant, iron and black olive that are deftly layered with sinewy tannins and balancing acidity. Drink now through 2021. 5,000 cases made. VM 91 (4/2014): (a blend of aglianico and piedirosso): Good full ruby. Ripe red cherry, dark plum, licorice, coffee and spicy oak on the nose. Sweet, plush and very ripe, with plum, truffle and milk chocolate flavors framed by adequate acidity. Complex wine with youthfully chewy, building tannins and excellent breadth. In a riper style than some past vintages. |
