WA 95 (5/2011): The 2007 Saffredi is drop-dead gorgeous. Roasted coffee beans, grilled herbs, mocha and dark fruit emerge from this beautiful, textured wine. The richness of the fruit radiates through to the long, polished finish. The 2007 Saffredi impresses for its fabulous balance and soft, enveloping personality. It is another superb effort from proprietor Elisabetta Geppetti. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2027. JS 94 (8/2011): This is full throttle on the palate with blackberries, fresh herbs such as rosemary and currants. Full body, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish finish. Leave this for four to five years. WS 92 (10/2010): Soft and fruity, with plenty of cherry and raspberry character. Full-bodied, with polished tannins and a long, pretty aftertaste. Best after 2013. 2,085 cases made. VM 91 (10/2010): (A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and alicante.) Dark ruby. Light red berry and plum aromas along with riper coffee and dark chocolate nuances. Dense and rich but nicely focused, with a creamy texture to the black cherry, dried herb and milk chocolate flavors. Puts on considerable weight in the glass and displays a seductive floral quality on the long finish. Harmonious acidity gives this concentrated blend a light touch and an overall impression of refinement. |

WA 96 (8/2013): The 2010 Saffredi (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) delivers gorgeous intensity and broad aromas of black berry, leather, crushed granite and lingering smoke. It’s a masterpiece on all happy fronts. The textural elegance is superb. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025. VM 93 (7/2013): The aromas of blueberries and lavender come out nicely in the glass. Full body, with fine tannins and a bright acidity. The texture is wonderful here. Needs two or three years to come together. Saffredi is a benchmark in Tuscany's Maremma region. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot. WS 90 (10/2013): Black cherry and licorice flavors hold the center, with accents of vanilla, clove, cedar and wood resin. This is concentrated and backed by stiff tannins, leaving a firm finish for now. Needs time. Best from 2016 through 2029. 1,875 cases made. |

| VM 98 (3/2020): The 2016 Saffredi is even better from bottle than it was from barrel - and that is saying a lot. A ton, in fact. Soaring in its concentration and scale, the 2016 boasts superb intensity in all of its dimensions. Readers who want to understand how magical the 2016 is will find the answer here. Macerated dark cherry, espresso, mint, lavender and leather add layers of nuance, but it is the wine's inner sweetness and extraordinary balance that stand out most. The 2016 is a pure and total pleasure bomb; that's all there is to it. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 96+ (1/2021): The 2018 Saffredi is a regal, elegant, supremely polished wine. It may very well be the most refined Saffredi I have ever tasted. Silky in its first impression, with striking aromatic presence and exceptional balance, the 2018 is a total knock-out. Sweet red cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and cinnamon accents develop over time, but it is the wine’s overall balance and poise that are so impressive today. The 2018 is an absolutely gorgeous Saffredi. It spent 20 months in French oak barrels, about 65% new. Don’t miss it. Antonio Galloni. JD 97 (7/2020): A fantastic nose to this with currant, sage, rosemary and rose-petal character. Sweet tobacco and spicy chocolate, too. Very complex. The palate shows lovely depth of fruit with blackberries, blackcurrants and fine tannins. It’s racy and refined with a direct, focused palate. Just a baby. A blend of cabernet sauvignon 60%, merlot 32% and petite verdot 8%. This needs at least two or three years to soften. Try in 2023. WA 96 (11/2020): The Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Saffredi borrows quite a bit from all of the grapes that make up the blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot). These balanced results open to a round bouquet of dark fruit, black cherry and plum. As the wine warms in the glass, it shows spice, cured tobacco and campfire embers. This is a full-bodied expression, but not excessively so. It puts forth immediate elegance with carefully measured tannins and a fitting postscript of fresh acidity. This newest vintage of Saffredi should be hitting the market now, but if you buy it, you should plan on cellaring it. |
