VM 93 (8/2006): Dark red. Gorgeous bouquet of cassis, red cherry, tobacco, mocha, oak spices and minerals. Deeply concentrated flavors of redcurrant, cherry, licorice, vanilla and cured tobacco are impressively juicy and deep, with a distinct mineral tone adding nerve and focus. This has serious weight but also poise and elegance, like first-class St. Julien but with American oak accents and more power and fruit expression. Should age and improve effortlessly for at least a decade.
WA 90 (10/2005): From the cooler climate region of Margaret River, the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, made from 27-year-old dry farmed vines, aged in primarily French oak, and bottled unfiltered, exhibits a dark ruby/purple color in addition to a French-like bouquet of tobacco, cedar, plums, and red as well as black currants. A finesse-styled, slightly austere effort with loads of complexity and stature, it should drink well for 10-15 years.
WS 89 (12/2006): Firm, a restrained red with a generous bead of blackberry, currant and spice at the core, shaded with earth and herb notes as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2012. 500 cases made. |
