JD 94 (9/2020): An interesting blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Petit Verdot, and 25% Syrah from a multitude of vineyards, the 2017 Bolt Cutter reveals a dense purple color as well as lots of cassis fruit, notes of ground pepper, bouquet garni (thyme/rosemary), and chocolate, full-bodied richness, and a rich, super-plush, sexy texture. It's another classic Herman Story wine that will put a smile on your face any time over the coming 5-7 years or more. (Drink between 2020-2027).
VM 93 (7/2022): Opaque violet. Expansive, smoke- and spice-accented black and blue fruit, vanilla and incense aromas are complemented by hints of licorice and woodsmoke. Plush and seamless on the palate, offering juicy blackberry, kirsch, blueberry and violet pastille flavors that become sweeter with air. Smooth, harmonious tannins lend shape and gentle grip to an extremely long finish featuring sexy floral and spice notes. (Drink between 2023-2032). Josh Raynolds. |

| WA 96 (8/2015): A wine that stood out in my Paso Robles tasting was the 2013 Syrah Nuts & Bolts. Made from 100% Syrah that saw 16 months in 70% new French oak, it's the greatest vintage of this cuvee I've tasted and it offers off the hook notes of creme de cassis, melted licorice, caramelized meats, pepper and crushed flowers. Full-bodied, voluptuous and hedonistic, it's also seamless and balanced, with ultra-fine tannin, no hard edges and blockbuster length. As winemaker Russell From says, "It is a no holds barred expression of Syrah that chases flavor at nearly any cost." Bravo sir. Give this sensational Paso Syrah a year or so in the cellar and enjoy bottles through 2023. |
