Rockpile Vyd Syrah

$49

WA 92 (8/2003): The huge 2001 Syrah Rockpile Vineyard (from a new California appellation) boasts notes of lead pencil shavings, melted licorice, scorched earth, and black currants integrated with a liquid minerality. Beautiful purity, tremendous density, loads of structure, high tannin, and a formidable, slightly austere but blockbuster finish, suggest this 2001 should be cellared. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015.
