El Desafio de Jonata Cabernet Sauvignon |

| |
JD 98 (7/2018): The 2013 El Desafio de Jonata checks in as a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and the rest Merlot all aged 20 months in 80% new French oak. Reminiscent of a First Growth from Pauillac, it gets a big wow in the notes and offers sensational notes of cassis, tobacco leaf, damp herbs, and charcoal. Full-bodied, massively concentrated, fresh and impeccably balanced, it's up with the 2007 as the greatest vintage of this cuvée to date. VM 97 (9/2016): The Cabernet Sauvignon-based 2013 El Desafio de Jonata is deep, powerful and implosive. A massive, dark wine, the 2013 Desafio exudes richness. Today, it is a brooding beast, but there is so much density in the glass just waiting to open up. Graphite, smoke, licorice, menthol, blackberry jam, grilled herbs, smoke and licorice are some of the many notes that shape the majestic, towering finish. In 2013, the blend is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot. Antonio Galloni. WA 96+ (8/2016): Another wine that needs to be forgotten for at least 4-6 years is the 2013 El Desafio de Jonata. Made from mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and a splash of Merlot, this full-bodied, inky colored wine offers beautiful aromatics of ripe black fruits, lead pencil, tobacco leaf and smoked herbs. Possessing a great mid-palate, ripe tannin and a great finish, it should be at its best from 2020-2040. |

JD 97+ (10/2018): Incorporating a big chunk of Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), the Merlot-dominated 2016 Fenix offers a saturated purple color as well as a powerful, full-bodied, decadent style in its blackcurrants, black cherries, chocolate, lead pencil, and leafy herb aromas and flavors. With a stacked mid-palate, thrilling purity, and an expansive, layered, heavenly profile, it's one of the finest Merlots coming out of California. It will flirt with perfection at maturity. (Drink between 2020-2040). VM 95 (9/2018): Jonata's Merlot-based 2016 Fenix is bright, focused and taut, all qualities that lend energy to a core of raspberry jam, chocolate, spice and floral notes. Somewhat shy today, the 2016 needs a few years in bottle to blossom. I especially like the wine's energy and restrained yet powerful style. (Drink between 2021-2031). Antonio Galloni. WA 93+ (9/2019): A blend of 58% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot aged in 70% new French oak, the 2016 Fenix has a deep ruby color and nose of warm red and black cherry, chocolate, dried green herbs, cedar, graphite, blackberry pie, plum and dried flowers—dense but classic. Medium to full-bodied, it floods the mouth with luscious dark fruits, firmly framed by grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing long and chocolaty. Delicious! |

La Sangre de Jonata Syrah |
$100 |

|
| |
WA 94 (6/2008): The 100% Syrah offering, the 2005 La Sangre de Jonata, exhibits an inky/blue/purple hue along with a stunningly pure nose of melted licorice, meat juices, blackberries, pepper, and a hint of balsamic. It is a wine of extraordinary density, richness, high tannin, beautiful purity, laser-like acidity, and superb texture as well as length. This remarkable Syrah is both powerful and elegant. Give it several more years of bottle age, and consume it over the following 10-15 years. VM 94 (12/2007): Opaque violet. Explosively perfumed nose offers a wild array of red and dark berry liqueur, floral oils and pungent herbs, all underscored by crackling minerality. Deep and sweet, with powerful cassis and black raspberry, candied licorice and violet pastille flavors. This reminded me of a big-ticket, single-site Chapoutier Hermitage. The sweetness is reined in by firm mineral and bitter chocolate, but returns on the remarkably long, juicy finish. Pretty amazing for a sophomore effort. WS 89 (2/2008): Intense and concentrated, this is tightly focused on the core of earthy berry, spice, sage and mineral flavors. Firms up on the finish, with tight cedary tannins. Decant. Drink now through 2012. 700 cases made. |

La Tierra de Jonata Sangiovese |
$45 |

|
| |
WA 93 (8/2015): Made from 100% Sangiovese from Ballard Canyon, the 2012 La Tierra de Jonata has a vivid ruby/semi-opaque color to go with beautiful cherry and strawberry fruits, spice, licorice and crushed flowers. A medium to full-bodied red, it has terrific purity and integrated acidity, both of which give it an elegant, seamless style that's surprisingly approachable. Drink it anytime over the coming 8-9 years. VM 90 (8/2015): The 2012 Tierra is an attractive wine, but over the last year it has acquired a deeper, darker register that wasn't present at the outset and that masks some of the varietal character. Drink this powerful Sangiovese-based red over the next handful of years. A dollop of Syrah rounds out the blend. The Tierra was aged mostly in larger format French oak barrels, 25% new. Not surprisingly, most of the Sangiovese at Jonata has now been ripped out. The wines, while pretty, also appear to have been a bit unpredictable. (Drink between 2015-2020). Antonio Galloni. |

Todos Proprietary Blend |

JD 94 (7/2018): A wine that always over-delivers, the 2007 Todos is still gorgeous today. Ripe currants, blackberries, toasted spice, meaty nuances and hints of chocolate all emerge from this opulent, sexy, gorgeously balanced 2007. It's drinking right in the middle of its maturity window, and while I don't see it getting better, it has another 4-5 years of prime drinking. The 2007 is a blend of 45% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Viognier and the balance Sangiovese and Grenache. VM 91 (12/2010): (a blend based on 45% syrah and 35% cabernet sauvignon) Deep ruby. Red and dark berries on the nose, with notes of potpourri, violet and herbs adding complexity. Juicy red- and blackcurrant flavors are given spine by gentle acidity and pick up notes of sweet chewing tobacco and floral pastilles with air. Supple tannins come up on the clinging finish, which repeats the floral and spice notes. I suspect that this will be approachable soon, but there's plenty of depth to allow it to age. |

| VM 91 (11/2012): (a wild blend based on 64% syrah, with sangiovese, merlot, cabernet sauvigon, grenache, viognier, cabernet franc, petit verdot, sauvignon blanc and semillon): Inky ruby. Dark berries, cured meat, smoky herbs, minerals and dried flowers on the fragrant nose. A sexy anise quality adds complexity to the powerful blackberry and boysenberry flavors, with tangy acidity adding focus and grip. This interesting blend finishes with very good complexity, firm tannins and lingering smokiness. Josh Raynolds. |

Todos Proprietary Blend |

| WA 95 (8/2013): Looking at the entry level effort, and almost making me wonder why you would pony up the money for the La Sangre when you can get this level of quality at less than half the price, the 2010 Todos, which is over 75% Syrah, offers up knockout aromas and flavors, full-bodied richness and a seamless, layered profile that is hard to resist. Blackberry liqueur, caramelized beef, chocolate and flowers are just some of the nuances here and this pure, polished 2010 can be enjoyed now or cellared for a decade. Drink now-2020. |

Todos Proprietary Blend |

| |
WA 93 (8/2013): More medium to full-bodied, with fantastic purity and complexity, the 2011 Todos delivers classic blackberry, violets, underbrush and liquid flower aromas and flavors as well as awesome purity, integrated acidity and sweet tannin. More approachable and lively than the 2010, it will have upwards of a decade of longevity. VM 91 (12/2014): Inky purple. Heady aromas of cherry compote, dark berries, incense and vanilla, with a spicy nuance adding complexity. Weighty but energetic and precise, offering smoky black and blue fruit flavors and a touch of candied violet. Really showing its syrah element today. Betrays no tannins or rough edges on the broad, smoky finish. Josh Raynolds. |

Todos Proprietary Blend |

WA 93 (8/2015): A great wine, the 2012 Todos Proprietary Red Wine offers terrific notes of black and red raspberry fruits, toasted bread and spice. As it sat in the glass, more classic Syrah olive, bacon and a touch of violet all developed. Medium to full-bodied, juicy, mouthfilling and loaded with sweet fruit, it doesn't skimp on structure and will have at least a decade of longevity. Think of this as a mini-La Sangre. The blend here is 75% Syrah with 7% each of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance a mix of varieties. VM 93 (8/2015): The 2012 Todos, Jonata's Syrah-based blend, is once again delicious. A touch of appassimento gives the 2012 an extra kick of flavor and texture intensity. Sweet cherry, raspberry jam, spice, mint and licorice notes abound in this racy, bold red. Todos is Jonata's least expensive red wine, but it competes quite favorable with the higher-end bottlings. The 2012 was aged mostly in larger-format French oak barrels, with 40% new wood. Antonio Galloni. |

La Flor de Jonata Sauvignon Blanc |
$30 |

|
| |
VM 94 (9/2019): The 2017 Flor is expressive and caressing, with soft contours and terrific balance. Yellow orchard fruit, sage, mint, orange peel and apricot all meld together in a wine of superb balance and class. Quite simply, 2017 is a great vintage for Flor, Jonata's Bordeaux-inspired dry white. (Drink between 2019-2025). Antonio Galloni. JD 91 (10/2019): A blend of 90% Sauvignon and 10% Semillon, the 2017 Flor has a pretty, classic bouquet of crushed citrus, lemon zest, white flowers, and crushed rock-like minerality. It's clean, beautifully balanced, has nicely integrated acidity, and a clean, crisp finish. It's going to keep for upwards of a decade if you're so inclined. |
