| VM 93 (8/2017): What a delight it is to taste Kerr's 2013 Reserve Red in such great shape. Dark, powerful and structured, with forbidding tannins that are going to need time to soften, the 2013 is terrific. A host of espresso, mocha, leather, licorice and cedar infuse a core of dark fruit in this imposing yet expressive red blend. All of the class of this great Napa Valley vintage comes through a highly expressive yet mid-weight wine. I suspect the bottle I tasted last fall was flawed, as this bottle is on another level entirely. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 95 (2/2023): Lastly, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Wappo Vineyard comes from a great site in the Stags Leap District and is all varietal. Lots of red, blue, and black fruits dominate the bouquet, and it offers more spice, savory herbs, and even a touch of iron with time in the glass. This full-bodied, balanced, textured 2019 has ripe tannins and a gorgeous finish. Drink bottles any time over the coming two decades. (Drink between 2023-2043)
VM 95 (1/2022): The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Wappo Vineyard emerges from a site on the southern edge of Stags Leap. Inky, plush fruit, gravel, lavender, licorice and spice give this explosive Cabernet a good deal of intensity. The 2019 is plush, deep and full-throttle, with all the elements very nicely balanced. Even so, it would be great to see a bit more nuance here. (Drink between 2024-2034). Antonio Galloni. |
