| WA 92 (8/2017): The 2009 Boca (mostly Nebbiolo with 15% Vespolina) is shaped by a very hot vintage. Indeed, 2003 and 2009 were the hottest years in recent years, Le Piane owner Christoph Künzli tells me. This wine reveals a soft core of blackberry preserves and dried cherry. In addition, there are evolved tones of leather and smoked bacon. The finish is long with some fine velvety textures on the close. |

VM 95 (12/2018): Alto Piemonte is a region I very much believe in. I chose two Nebbiolo-based wines to move into reds, both of which I thought could work well with Saison’s transparent, pure cuisine. The 2010 Boca from Le Piane is absolutely gorgeous, as it always is. Rose petal, lavender and sweet cherry are all beautifully lifted in this slightly nervous, vibrant red. (Drink between 2018-2030). Antonio Galloni. WA 92 (3/2019): The 2010 vintage started off slowly with lots of rain and cool temperatures that got the season off to a late start. The summer season saw moderate temperatures that helped to further slow down fruit ripening, but a sudden wave of warm temperatures in September eventually brought sugar and phenolic ripeness to an optimal conclusion. Harvest for the 2010 Boca, a blend of 85% Nebbiolo and 15% Vespolina, took place on October 25th. Despite that gorgeous vintage DNA, this wine appeared a bit closed during our tasting, showing some reluctance to fully open. You get a touch of that candied fruit that we saw in the 2011 vintage; however, this expression is much more delicate, fragile and fine in terms of the palate. Indeed, the elegant nature of the mouthfeel is this wine's ace card. |

VM 94+ (4/2020): The 2015 Boca is glorious. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, mint, pine and sweet red cherry are some of the notes that grace this vivid, exquisitely beautiful wine. As always, the Boca is taut and wonderfully vibrant, with salivating acids, floral aromatics and tons of energy. If the 2015 fleshes out a bit with aging, it could very well turn out to be even better than this note suggests. (Drink between 2022-2035). Antonio Galloni. WA 94 (3/2019): This vintage was not part of the official Le Piane Boca retrospective, but I had the chance to taste the wine during my visit to the estate. The 2015 Boca is a charming wine, with soothing and seductive fruit exuberance. Compared to the 2016 vintage (which I tasted from barrel), this 2015 edition is slightly more accessible and open. That's the characteristic of this vintage. It shows soft roundness and ripeness with extremely intact aromas of wild berry, licorice and candied raspberry. |
