WA 94 (10/2014): The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Herold by Mark Herold, which is his $195.00 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon (340 cases), is super-duper rich. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and tipping the scales at a lofty 15.3% natural alcohol, the wine shows loads of blackberry fruit, graphite, licorice, forest floor and white flowers. There are baking spice notes, plenty of toasty oak and a full-bodied, powerful, super-concentrated mouthfeel. Herold said his fruit sources for this wine are Stagecoach, Atlas Peak and Coombsville vineyards. This wine should drink well for 15-20 years.
VM 93 (9/2014): The top of the line Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Herold by Mark Herold is richer, deeper and darker than the Herold Cabernet, but not meaningfully better, just a bit different in style. Jammy black fruit, leather, smoke, tobacco and cloves flow through effortlessly to the rich, opulent finish. (Drink between 2016-2027) Antonio Galloni. |
