WS 93 (12/2019): Rich, with toasty notes of grilled nut and blackberry tart, this creamy Champagne is finely knit and vibrant, enlivened by a firm frame of citrusy acidity and a minerally underpinning. Disgorged February 2018. Drink now through 2027. WA 92 (4/2019): Disgorged in February 2018 with five grams per liter dosage, Moët's 2012 Extra Brut Grand Vintage is showing well, unfurling in the glass with an expressive bouquet of ripe yellow orchard fruit, peaches, toasted nuts, warm bread and honeycomb. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a tangy but ripe core of fruit, nicely integrated acids and a pinpoint mousse, concluding with an attractively fruit-driven finish. The 2012 reflects both the concentration of the vintage and Moët's push for riper fruit, and it is already quite accessible. VM 91+ (7/2019): The 2012 Grand Vintage is a very pretty, high-toned Champagne. Surprisingly nervous for this radiant vintage, the 2012 is going to need a bit of time to be at its best. Some of that may be attributable to early release of the 2012, which was bottled after only five years on its lees rather than the more customary seven or so because the house did not bottle either a 2010 or 2011 Grand Vintage, and the necessities of the market are what they are. Lemon confit, white flowers, and mint gradually open up in the glass. This is an especially taut style for the Grand Vintage, which is usually creamier and more open-knit in the early going. The blend is 41% Chardonnay, 36% Meunier and 33% Pinot Noir. Dosage is 5 grams per liter. Disgorged: February, 2018. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 93 (5/2022): The 2015 Extra-Brut Grand Vintage is a terrific choice for drinking now, as it is so expressive. Baked apple tart, spice, lemon confit, marzipan and a hint of toastiness are front and center. Open-knit and engaging, the 2015 is a Champagne of pure and total pleasure. Antonio Galloni. JD 93 (11/2023): Produced from 44% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay, and the rest Meunier, the 2015 Champagne Grand Vintage Extra Brut pours a medium golden-straw hue and is opulent on opening with toasty aromas of baked bread, spiced orange peel, marzipan, and dried peach. Full-bodied, with a pillowy mouthfeel, it has a very nice balance of ripe fruit while retaining freshness Silky textured, its notes of citrus oils and orchard fruits last through the finish. This elegant and warming wine would do fantastically well moving into these cooler fall and winter months. Although I personally enjoy where this is for drinking now, it should hold up over the coming 6-8 years. Disgorged February 2022. |

WS 94 (6/2018): A firm, tightly meshed rose Champagne, with a powerful frame of smoky mineral and acidity swathed in a fine range of wild strawberry, whole-grain toast, kumquat and exotic spice notes that linger on the racy finish. Disgorged February 2017. Drink now through 2030. VM 93 (7/2018): Interestingly, the 2009 Extra Brut Grand Vintage Rose is quite a bit tighter and pointed than the Blanc. Here, it is the wine’s energy and tension that stand out most. It will be interesting to see if the 2009 gains a bit more volume over time. Even today, though, the 2009 is beautifully resonant and expressive, with striking vinous intensity driving through to the finish. Hints of orange peel, mint, chalk and blood orange add shades of character. Antonio Galloni. |
