WA 96 (8/2009): What a pleasure it is to taste the 2006 Le Pergole Torte now that it is in bottle. The wine reveals superior density and richness in an especially generous style for this wine. Notes of smoke, licorice, leather and underbrush develop with air, adding layers of complexity to the dark red fruit. Today the tannins are a bit on the firm side as is typically the case when this wine is young, but it is impossible not to admire the 2006 Pergole Torte for its superb purity. The heat of the vintage has given the fruit in these high altitude vineyards a level of ripeness and depth that is unusual, all while maintaining the classic sense of structure that defines the best Pergole Tortes. Run, don’t walk?.this is breathtaking juice no one who loves Italian wine will want to be without. This is Lot L 109. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2031. WS 92 (10/2009): Blackberry, black cherry and floral aromas follow through to a fresh, fruity and minerally palate. Silky and citrusy. Very tight and racy. Classy. Sangiovese. Best after 2011. 2,000 cases made. |

| VM 94 (1/2016): The 2009 Le Pergole Torte is young, primary and fruit-driven. This is another wine that is hard to taste in this setting, as the flavors are so primary. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate and spices are all pushed forward. Succulent, layered and beautifully expressive, the 2009 is likely to open up sooner than most Pergole Tortes, although another few years will help the tannin soften. In some ways, the 2009 is a less plush and exotic version of the 2007. Next to the other warm vintages (2003, 2007 and 2011), the 2009 is lighter and more mid-weight in structure. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 97 (2/2019): The 2015 Le Pergole Torte captures all the radiance and intensity of the vintage. Deep, powerful and resonant, the 2015 will be a racy wine once it emerges from its recent bottling. As always, the Pergole Torte is differentiated from the Montevertine by its greater textural richness and perfume. In 2015, Pergole Torte is exotically ripe and flamboyant, not to mention utterly captivating. Don't miss it. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97 (7/2022): The 2019 Le Pergole Torte is all class and refinement. At the same time, the 2019 is quite reticent at this stage. In this tasting, the Pergole Torte comes across as more refined and aromatically expressive than the Montevertine, with lovely brightness driving the red berry fruit. Elegant and sophisticated, the 2019 is a wine to treasure for the next several decades. Time in the glass brings out the floral upper register and red Sangiovese fruit of Pergole Torte. Antonio Galloni. WA 97 (2/2023): Holding back initially, this wine simply needs more time in bottle, and I have adjusted the drinking window accordingly. The 2019 Le Pergole Torte is a long-term proposition showing initial stirrings of tart cherry fruit, plum, licorice, tobacco and crushed stone. There is a pretty floral tone of violet or rosemary flower even now. Winemaking takes this special selection of 100% Sangiovese though cement and Allier and Slavonian oak. The balanced acidity stands out nicely. |

VM 98+ (7/2024): The 2021 Le Pergole Torte is a real stunner. Rich, deep and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2021 is captivating from the very first taste. In bottle, this is quite a bit more reticent than it was as a barrel sample, which, in my view, is a positive. Even so, readers should be prepared to cellar the 2021 for a number of years at a minimum. (Drink between 2028-2046). Antonio Galloni. WA 97 (7/2024): Beautifully saturated and rich in terms of complexity (but not in extraction), the Montevertine 2021 Le Pergole Torte remains focused and elegantly streamlined with a very bright-red cherry element that defines this classic vintage. There are tart fruit flavors to close, followed by firm but silky tannins. A hint of the skins also comes through on the bouquet and adds a little more weight and substance. This wine (which is worked in cement vats, oak cask and Allier barrique) finishes with polished slate-like mineral nuances. |

| VM 94 (12/2013): Montevertine’s 2009 Montevertine dazzles from the very first taste. Montevertine is sometimes overlooked in favor of the flagship Pergole Torte, but that is a mistake, as I have learned over the years. The 2009 jumps from the glass with sweet rose petals, red berries, mint, licorice and spices. Is it ready to drink? Of course the 2009 is far too young to be fully mature, but it is still a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 94-97 (8/2019): Shockingly dense and dark, the 2017 Montevertine possesses off the charts textural richness and unctuosity. A freak of nature in a vintage with tiny yields, the 2017 saturates the palate with intense, plush fruit, silky tannins and mind-blowing concentration. Raspberry jam, white flowers, lavender and spice are some of the notes that build into a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures. The 2017 is shaping up to be an epic Montevertine and a huge overachiever. Interestingly, today the Montevertine shows sweeter tannins and a touch less alcohol than the Pergole Torte. I can't wait to taste it from bottle. Antonio Galloni. |
