JD 94 (4/2026): The 2022 Gattinara pours a pale red-orange hue and shows an appealing, light-on-its-feet profile. Aromas of orange peel, tangerine, cranberries in pastry, and delicate spice emerge from the glass. Medium-bodied, it combines clarity of fruit with well-defined structure and refreshing acidity. This is a particularly attractive and approachable expression of the appellation that also delivers strong value. Drink 2026-2040. Audrey Frick. VM 93 (2/2026): The 2022 Gattinara delicate and finessed from start to finish. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, chalk, mint and white pepper give the 2022 striking aromatic top notes. Medium in body and nuanced, the 2022 is a captivating Gattinara that will drink well right out of the gate. Its balance is exquisite. (Drink between 2027-2042). Antonio Galloni. |

JD 96 (4/2026): From a south- and southeast-facing vineyard at 240 to 420 meters on steep volcanic slopes, the 2021 Gattinara Vigna Molsino displays a more structured and alpine profile. Aromas of balsamic herbs, juniper, wildflowers, black raspberries, and smoky earth lift from the glass. Medium-bodied, it carries more tension and grip, with chiseled tannins and subtle cedar notes that will need time to fully harmonize. This is clearly built for long aging and should reward patience. Drink 2027-2050. Audrey Frick. VM 93 (2/2025): The 2021 Gattinara Molsino is dense, creamy and expansive. Dark toned fruit, leather and spice open first, followed by exotic floral overtones that build over time. There's gorgeous density and resonance here, if not quite the dynamic, layered complexity of the very best vintages. (Drink between 2027-2046). Antonio Galloni. |

JD 96 (5/2025): From Roberto Conterno’s Alto Piemonte estate, the 2021 Gattinara Val Ferrana is more citrus-driven and savory, with sanguine and mouthwatering iron-noted mineral richness. It’s a vibrant wine with lifted notes of spiced cranberries, alpine herbs, orange zest, and saline. The palate is taut and linear, with a bright spine of acidity, a focused, medium-bodied frame, and a persistent savory drive through the finish. It has a nervous and coiled feel, and as it opens in the glass, it begins to reveal its more animalistic and deeper underpinnings. Unfortunately, the estate lost 75% of their production due to hail, which devastated this small appellation in June of 2021. Drink 2025-2050. (Drink between 2025-2050). Audrey Frick. VM 95 (2/2025): The 2021 Gattinara Vigna Valferana is absolutely gorgeous. A wine of energy, tension and cut, the 2021 is immediately captivating. Crushed rocks, iron, slate, white pepper and mint all race across the palate. The persistent, intensely saline finish is a thing of beauty. The Valferana is a Gattinara for readers who enjoy reds built on energy and tension. This is so expressive, even in the early going. (Drink between 2027-2046). Antonio Galloni. |
