WA 92 (8/2009): The most limited production Pinot Noir (just under 100 cases) is the 2007 Pinot Noir Duende from the Gold Coast Vineyard. Delicate cherry and berry fruit with hints of underbrush, forest floor, and spring flowers are followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered wine that displays pure blue and red berries, a textured mouthfeel, and a long finish. The color is medium to dark ruby with a hint of purple. This wine should drink well for 5-7 years.
VM 91+ (11/2009): Bright red. Highly expressive aromas of red berries, incense, rose and underbrush; reminds me of a topnotch Morey-Saint-Denis. Pliant and gently sweet, offering incisive cherry and raspberry flavors and slow-building tannins. Very young but awfully promising, finishing with strong thrust and lingering spiciness. JD 93 (8/2020): All destemmed Grenache aged 22 months in 30% new barrels, the 2018 Ora et Labora Bien Nacido Vineyard offers up a juicy bouquet of Bing cherries, black raspberries, sappy herbs, licorice, and ground pepper. Nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, and silky on the palate, with great tannins, drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years.
VM 93 (8/2020): The 2018 Grenache Ora et Labora Bien Nacido Vineyard is gorgeous. Bright red cherry fruit, mint and blood orange all grace this super-expressive, mid-weight wine. Bien Nacido is a famous site, and that pedigree definitely comes through in the wine's energy and character. (Drink between 2020-2030). Antonio Galloni. |

WA 95 (8/2009): Readers looking for more immediate gratification should check out the absolutely sensational 2007 Pinot Noir Suerte Solomon Hills Vineyard. From Dijon clones 115 and 777, this wine exhibits sweet blueberry, black raspberry, and kirsch notes intermixed with a perfumed floral note. This full-bodied, opulent wine has extraordinary elegance, precision, and finesse, but is layered, beautifully textured, and lush. This is a completely different expression of Pinot Noir than the Cine Sera. It should drink well for up to a decade.
VM 93 (11/2009): Deep, vivid red. Sexy aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, incense and potpourri expand with air and pick up a note of black cardamom. Deeply concentrated but fresh, offering lively red berry flavors and a powerful note of cherry skin. Gains flesh in the glass and finishes with excellent clarity and a persistent cherry note. WA 94 (12/2010): The deep ruby/plum-hued 2008 Pinot Noir Suerte Vineyard is made from the newer Dijon clones 115, 777, and 667. It offers sweet, ripe black cherry, strawberry and raspberry fruit intermixed with loamy, dusty soil and underbrush notes. Round, pure and precise with good acidity, sweet tannin and a long, medium to full-bodied finish, it is another exquisite Pinot Noir from Paul Lato that ranks just behind his 2008 Lancelot Pisoni Vineyard cuvee.
VM 91 (11/2010): Ruby-red. Pungent cherry and dark berry aromas are complicated by notes of cola, licorice and singed orange. Surprisingly bright and nervy on the palate, showing more red than dark fruit and an exotic floral pastille quality. Seamless and spherical wine, with lingering notes of cola and blackberry on the finish. Josh Raynolds. |

| VM 93 (11/2009): Bright ruby. Exotically perfumed scents of candied red berries, cherry pie, Asian spices, rose and sandalwood. Sweet, penetrating red fruit flavors are complemented by notes of candied flowers and cinnamon, with silky tannins adding support. Richer cherry and dark berry qualities arrive on the finish, which is broad, spicy and extremely long. This wine's intensity is quite impressive. Josh Raynolds. |

| WA 89 (12/2010): Lato’s newest and least expensive offering is the 2008 Pinot Noir Matinee, a blend of three separate Santa Barbara County vineyard sites. This unfiltered cuvee reveals elegant strawberry, raspberry and pomegranate notes, fresh acids, medium body, admirable purity and an impressive texture as well as finish. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. |
