VM 94 (10/2015): Pulido-Walker's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard has turned out beautifully. Rich, creamy and voluptuous, the Melanson is quite forward for the year. Lavender, savory herbs, tobacco, mint and sweet floral notes are expressive throughout. This distinctive, explosive Pritchard Hill Cabernet is loaded with personality. Antonio Galloni.
WA 96 (12/2015): The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard definitely eclipses its older sibling. It is similarly opaque purple in color, but reveals greater fruit intensity, more massive concentration, but still keeps its delineation and vibrancy on display. Loads of blueberries, blackberries and white flowers jump from the glass of this full-bodied wine, which shares a wonderful opulence and extravagant fruit nature with the Panek, but comes across slightly more floral. This is a beauty to drink over the next 20+ years. |

WA 97 (10/2016): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard comes from a higher elevation site on Pritchard Hill. This is slightly lower in alcohol at 14.3% and sees 88% new French oak. This is a beauty. Black raspberry, blueberry, white flowers, forest floor, graphite and camphor are all present in the aromatics and flavors of this full-bodied wine that has magnificent fruit purity and an expansive, large-scale mouthfeel, but no heaviness or cloying characteristics. This is a beauty to drink over the next 25 years.
VM 94 (12/2016): Pulido-Walker's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard opens with pungent, expressive aromatics. A dark, brooding wine, the Melanson presents a compelling interplay of super-ripe dark fruit and intense mountain tannins. Smoke, savory herbs, graphite, menthol and torrefaction notes from the French oak are some of the signatures. Even with all of its opulence and intensity, the 2014 preserves a great deal of freshness. With time in the glass, redder tonalities of fruit start to emerge. Antonio Galloni. |

| JD 97 (1/2020): Even better, I suspect the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon might be a candidate for the wine of the vintage with 4-5 years of bottle age. From a vineyard on Pritchard Hill, just across from Colgin, and 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this inky colored beauty offers loads of blueberry and blackcurrant liqueur-like fruits as well as lots of spice, flowery incense, and subtle herbal undertones. Textbook Cabernet on the nose, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, building tannins, a stacked mid-palate, and a great, great finish. It’s one of the few wines in the vintage that comes close to rivaling its 2015 and 2016 counterparts. The cellar will be your friend on this one, though, and a good 4-6 years of bottle age are warranted. |

It is full-bodied, exhibits terrific texture, low acidity and sweet, round tannin. This is a full-bodied classic that is delicious already, but promises to develop more nuances over the next decade and last for 20-25 years.

Dark cherry, plum mocha, menthol and dark spices build nicely as this creamy, voluptuous Cabernet shows off its personality. This is a distinctly brooding, virile expression of Cabernet from this site. Herb, tobacco, chocolate and graphite overtones add the closing nuances. This is a gorgeous wine and a fabulous addition to the range. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 97 (12/2017): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard comes from a larger vineyard in St. Helena and was brought up in 80% new French oak. This full-bodied, deep, concentrated 2015 has considerable opulent and decadence, as well as terrific notes of ripe plums, currants, decaying flowers and white chocolate. Despite all the fruit, it has plenty of tannins, and I suspect will keep for 2+ decades.
WA 97 (12/2017): Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 20 months in French oak, 80% new, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard St. Helena has a deep garnet-purple color and gives up coffee, dried herbs and garrigue notions over a crème de cassis, blueberry pie and red currant jelly core with touches of cumin seed and black pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the taut, muscular palate is laden with savory and black fruit layers, featuring firm, ripe, grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and earthy. 225 cases produced.
VM 95 (1/2018): Pulido-Walker's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard is a rich, heady wine. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, rose petal, blood orange and spice give the 2015 a decidedly exotic profile. Racy and voluptuous in the glass, the 2015 is nearly impossible to resist for its pure allure. This is a terrific showing. Antonio Galloni. |
