VM 91-93 (6/2018): Bright violet. Expressive black and blue fruit, floral pastille and peppery spice aromas display a bright mineral quality and a suggestion of woodsmoke. Intense blueberry and bitter cherry flavors show excellent clarity and spicy lift, picking up star anise and cola nuances on the back half. Delivers a serious punch of dark fruit flavor but comes off surprisingly lithe, and finishes with smooth tannins and strong tenacity. Josh Raynolds. JD 91-93 (1/2018): Moving to the 2016s from barrel, this late vintage wasn’t completely brought in until the middle of October. The 2016 Côte Rôtie Ampodium has the purity and elegance that’s the hallmark of the vintage as well as ripe berry fruits, violets, and pepper. It’s a charming, forward 2016 that’s going to drink nicely right out of the gate. WA 91-93 (12/2017): I tasted from a barrel that Rostaing said represented something "close to the final blend" of the 2016 Cote Rotie Ampodium. This medium-bodied wine features classic notes of violets, spice and raspberries and has ample flesh covering its silky, tea-like backbone of ripe tannins. It should drink well young. JLL **** (11/2017): Dark red, crimson tints. The nose is gently rounded, has a raspberry, cassis bud, note of stems infill, mulberry fruit also. This has a bracing, assertive debut, with immediate crunch and red cherry fruit, muscle from within. It’s a sinewed, fresh vintage wine, and I like these tannins – real good pep they have. This combines Burgundian rigour with Côte-Rôtie finesse. “It is closed today, but has very joli potential,” Rene Rostaing. |

VM 94 (12/2022): Deep violet color. Ripe blackberry and cherry on the floral- and spice-accented nose. Shows fine definition and appealing sweetness on the palate, offering juicy dark fruit and floral pastille flavors and a peppery overtone. Closes long and lively, with repeating cherry and spice notes and even tannins that lend subtle grip. (Drink between 2024-2032). Josh Raynolds. JD 93 (2/2022): Moving to the 2019s from bottle, the 2019 Côte Rôtie Ampodium offers lots of peppery herbs, flowers, bacon fat, and sweet black raspberry fruit in a medium to full-bodied, meaty, straight-up classic Côte Rôtie style. It’s well worth seeking out as a multi-bottle purchase, as it will offer loads of pleasure over the coming 15 years. (Drink between 2022-2037). |

JD 91-93 (2/2022): The 2020 Côte Rôtie Ampodium is well worth seeking out, and it’s been a great value now in just about every vintage I’ve tasted. Medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant, and balanced, it has lots of textbook Côte Rôtie red and black fruits, violets, and peppery herbs, with some graphite and minerality as well. It’s clearly an outstanding wine, and I’d be happy to drink a bottle any time over the coming 10-12 years or more. WA 91-93 (1/2022): Pierre Rostaing has been shortening the cuvaison for this cuvee, and the 2020 Cote Rotie Ampodium received closer to three weeks on the skins than four. It's still impressively dark and rich, with scents of black olives, violets, raspberries and a touch of orange zest. Medium to full-bodied and velvety in feel, it looks like a strong year for the estate's blended wine. |

| JD 98 (1/2018): The 2015 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde is up there with the crème de la crème and is a sensational effort that has more than a passing resemblance to the 1999. Huge aromatics of black raspberries, exotic flowers, crushed rocks and spice just jump from the glass. This full-bodied, exuberant, incredibly sexy beauty has sweet tannin, a weightless, seamless texture, awesome purity fruit and a finish that won’t quit. It has a youthful exuberance that makes it irresistible now, but it needs 4-6 years of cellaring and will cruise for 20-25 years. |

JD 97 (2/2022): The 2019 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde is as seamless and silky as they come and is just a quintessential Côte Rôtie. Black raspberries, flowers, ground pepper, and subtle meatiness all emerge from this beauty, and it’s full-bodied, has remarkable tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It certainly offers pleasure today, but smart money will hide bottles for 4-5 years. It will knock your socks off over the following two decades. VM 97 (12/2022): Opaque ruby. Intensely perfumed, spice- and mineral-accented blueberry, kirsch, fruitcake and floral aromas are complemented by suggestions of incense and botanical herbs. Shows superb clarity and mineral thrust to its sweet black and blue fruit, cola, violet pastille and spicecake flavors, which deftly meld depth and vivacity. Finishes extremely long and smooth, with polished tannins and reverberating blue fruit, mineral and floral notes. Josh Raynolds. |

WA 97-99 (1/2022): My favorite of the 2020s from Rostaing—at least until I try the wines again next year—is the 2020 Cote Rotie la Cote Blonde. Scents of crushed stone and red raspberries give the impression of seamless transmission of terroir allied to incredible fruit purity. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it's an amazing expression of Cote Rotie that should age effortlessly for a couple of decades. JD 95-97 (2/2022): Moving to the single parcel releases, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde is about as pretty and seamless as they come, with gorgeous black raspberry fruit as well as spice, loamy earth, and subtle minerality on both the nose and palate. It’s concentrated and structured yet shines for its purity and finesse. |

JLL ****[*] (12/2008): Plenty of red in the robe. Has a somewhat sultry nose (M. Rostaing says it has been open a few days), with a smoky, licorice air on top. The palate holds compact black fruit that comes with a line of freshness through it, but becomes round again on the finish. This is well-knit - I find the 2006 more sunny. It ends on a smoky, straight down the line aftertaste, with definite late mineral in it. This has good balance, and cleanses the palate. From 2012. VM 93 (1/2009): Medium red. Mineral-driven aromas of red berries, cherry, Asian spices and violet display impressive clarity and vivacity, and a delicacy that is really intriguing. Light on its feet, with deeply concentrated red berry and cherry flavors and a suave floral quality. Silky in texture like a suave Chambolle-Musigny, with excellent finishing spiciness and cut. Pure and stylish. Josh Raynolds. WA 92 (4/2009): One of the three finest wines made from this great site, the 2006 Cote Rotie La Landonne boasts a deep ruby/purple hue as well as notes of ground pepper, smoked herbs, roasted meats, cassis, and violets. Displaying excellent fruit, medium to full body, and serious richness as well as depth, it should drink well for 10-15 years. WS 91 (5/2009): Lighter in style, but persistent, with tangy red currant and damson plum flavors guided by sandalwood, iron and sanguine notes. A slightly dusty edge frames the mineral- and white pepper-filled finish. Drink now through 2019. 750 cases made. |

JD 98+ (12/2022): Almost pure perfection, the 2020 Côte Rôtie La Landonne just about jumps out of the glass and offers up utterly classic La Landonne aromatics of smoked black fruits, cassis, scorched earth, cured meats, and ground pepper, with more violet and floral nuances in the background. These all carry over to the palate, where the wine is full-bodied, dense, and powerful, with building tannins and an incredibly layered mouthfeel. It's not for the instant gratification crowd, but this is one seriously good Côte Rôtie. VM 97 (12/2022): Opaque ruby. Displays an array of intensely perfumed, mineral-accented black and blue fruit, floral, botanical herb and exotic spice aromas, along with suggestions of licorice, smoked meat and olive. Shows serious depth as well as unlikely energy, offering palate-staining kirsch, cassis, bitter chocolate, olive paste and violet pastille flavors that slowly turn sweet and become more energetic through the back half. Youthfully gripping tannins add grip to the smoky, mineral- and spice-driven finish, which emphatically repeats the licorice and blue fruit notes. Josh Raynolds. |

JD 98+ (2/2022): More black raspberry, camphor, graphite, peppered meat, and powdered rock notes emerge from the 2019 Côte Rôtie Le Vialliere, another flat-out incredible wine from this family. Much straighter and more focused than the more opulent La Landonne, it has a dense mid-palate, ultra-fine tannins, full-bodied richness, and perfect balance. It’s singular, heavenly wine that needs to be forgotten for 5-7 years, and it should see its 30th birthday in fine form. VM 97 (12/2022): Glass-staining ruby color. Smoke- and mineral-accented cherry and blackberry scents show superb clarity, and licorice and olive nuances build in the glass. Gently sweet, penetrating dark berry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors are underscored by a smoky mineral element and pick up an exotic spice nuance with air. Fleshes out slowly on the fabulously long well-delineated finish, which is framed by solid (but in no way severe) tannins that blend very slowly into the wine's deep, dark fruit. Note that there is no 2020 bottling of this wine as there was too little quantity; thus, it was all blended into the Ampodium, much to that wine's benefit. Josh Raynolds. |

| JD 97+ (12/2022): From a great terroir in the northern part of Côte Rôtie, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Vallière is another perfumed, mineral-laced 2020, offering a beautiful nose of darker raspberries, camphor, violets, woodsmoke, and grilled bread. Possessing huge minerality, it's medium to full-bodied, has a tight, compact mouthfeel, lots of tannins, and a great finish. It needs to be hidden in the back of the cellar for 7-8 years if possible. |
