WS 90 (11/1997): Slightly earthy and leathery at first, the herb, currant and black cherry flavors slowly become more complex and interesting. Finish is firmly tannic, but the fruit pours through on the aftertaste. Best after 1999. WA 88 (12/1996): The quality of the 1994 vintage is well-displayed at Robert Mondavi. The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (about 80,000 cases produced) is one of the finest regular Cabernets Mondavi has made. It exhibits a deep ruby color, and sweet, rich, blackcurrant aromas intertwined with scents of vanilla and spice. Soft, round, medium to full-bodied, and harmonious, the wine is accessible, yet capable of lasting for 10-15 years. Readers can look forward to an immensely impressive group of Cabernet Sauvignons from Mondavi, which is not surprising given what this estate has produced over the last several decades. 1994 is unquestionably a great vintage for North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon. As the opening comments in this article have stated, 1994 stands above 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993 - all Outstanding vintages with no shortage of heroic performances. Remarkably, 1995 may turn out to be as profound as 1994, giving California its two greatest back to back vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon ... ever! |

WS 89 (9/1999): Wonderfully supple texture and great purity of fruit, with polished cherry, berry, sage, anise and leather notes that stay tightly focused and linger on the finish. Best from 2000 through 2006. WA 88 (12/1998): The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is an elegant, medium-bodied example with more tannin than most regular bottlings (a characteristic of the vintage). This structured wine offers weedy black currant fruit, subtle oak, and a well-built, concentrated finish. About 8% Cabernet Franc was added to the blend. The 1996 is approachable, but it promises to be even better with several more years of bottle age, and will last 12-15+ years. VM 88 (6/1999): Full red-ruby. Slightly roasted aromas of plum, cherry, cassis, leather, mocha and earth. Sweet, fat, full and generous in the mouth; this will offer satisfying early drinking. Finishes with dusty tannins and notes of redcurrant, smoke and leather. Stephen Tanzer. |

| WA 91 (12/2008): The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville reveals more licorice, spice, box, cedar, black cherries, and black currants in its complex, moderately intense aromatics. Full-bodied with outstanding concentration and moderate tannin, it displays the potential to improve for a decade, and last for 15-20 years thereafter. |
