WS 91 (6/2004): A rich, smooth and seductive style that starts out with flashy toasty, smoky oak and leads to a ripe, slightly hot and intense wine with layers of currant and blackberry fruit that firms up on the finish, with a surge of tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2012. 2,700 cases made. VM 88 (2/2006): (cabernet sauvignon with 8% merlot and 3% petit verdot) Deep ruby-red. Aromas of currant, black plum, licorice and truffle. Dense, sweet and spicy but high-pitched, with notes of chocolate and truffle. Rather uncompromising young wine, finishing dusty and firmly tannic. |

WA 89 (12/2006): The 2002 Elivette Proprietary Red (81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc) reveals blueberry, raspberry, and herbal aromas, subtle spicy wood, medium body, good acidity, austere tannin, and a long, layered, Bordeaux-like finish. With beautiful overall balance as well as purity, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.

WA 90 (4/2014): A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 7% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2004 Elivette Proprietary Red Wine spent 22 months in French oak and 24 months in bottle prior to release. Made in a more generous style, it exhibits plenty of raspberry and blueberry fruit notes intermixed with a hint of spring flowers, an attractive texture, fine purity as well as elegance, and a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Drink it over the next decade.

WA 87 (12/2009): The 2006 Elivette is the leaner of the two, but it is a good wine, medium-bodied and best drunk over the next 10-12 years.

Elivette Proprietary Blend |

WA 89 (12/2009): With sweeter black currant and berry fruit, and hints of white chocolate and espresso, as well as wood spice, the 2007 Elivette (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot) should age for 10-15 years. It is more linear, less textured, and more austere, but it has more depth and volume than the 2006.

VM 88 (5/2013): (75% cabernet sauvignon, 13% cabernet franc, 6% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 1% malbec): Good medium-dark red. Dark cherry, mocha, tobacco leaf, fresh herbs and a rather intrusive woodsmoke quality on the nose. Fine-grained in texture but with the smoky oak element currently overshadowing red and darker fruit flavors. Owing to its modest sweetness of material, the tannins turn a bit dry with air. Stephen Tanzer.

VM 89 (5/2013): (55% cabernet sauvignon, 22% cabernet franc, 12% petit verdot, 10% merlot and 1% malbec): Bright dark red. Musky currant, dark cherry and smoky oak on the nose; less exotic than the 2008. Then riper and sweeter in the mouth, with currant and salty mineral flavors complicated by nuances of chocolate, cedar, mint and mocha. Finishes dry in an Old World way, with a solid spine of dusty tannins. Still quite oaky but this has a fresh minerality and a silkiness that I didn't find in the 2008 release. Stephen Tanzer.

WA 88 (4/2014): The elegant 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, nearly all Cabernet Sauvignon (90%), reveals attractive blueberry and raspberry fruit, medium body, and a lighter, more delicate style. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years.

VM 88+ (5/2013): Full red-ruby. Black plum, licorice, herbs, menthol, cola and chocolatey oak on the slightly medicinal nose. Intense, rather smooth flavors of kirsch and menthol show less complexity today but a bit more energy and richness than those of the '08 Elivette. Still rather tightly coiled and tannic, with more to come with time in the cellar. Stephen Tanzer.

VM 89+ (5/2013): Good red-ruby. Black- and redcurrant, licorice, mocha, chocolate mint and herbs on the nose. Juicy, spicy, bright and light on its feet, offering an attractive balance of dark fruit, oak and mineral components. Nicely delineated, youthfully medicinal cabernet, finishing with firm but suave tannins and slowly mounting persistence. Potentially outstanding. Stephen Tanzer.

JS 90 (6/2016): A firm and juicy wine with redwood, orange peel, sweet tobacco and currants. Mineral character. Full-bodied, round and soft. Very drinkable now. Delicious. WA 89 (10/2013): Spring Mountain’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec) is one of the better efforts I have tasted from them over recent vintages. It offers sweet raspberry and black currant fruit intertwined with a hint of flowers, medium body and excellent balance and length. It should drink well for a decade or more. |

JS 96 (5/2016): A red with such grandeur and tradition plus gorgeous austerity and length. Full body and pinpointed center palate with pretty fruit and balance. Aromatic with sage, lavender, rosemary flower, and chives. Love it. Better to drink in 2019 but so delicious now.

WS 88 (11/2004): This wine wins points for its richness, purity of flavor and supple texture, yet it's undeniably firmly tannic and intense. The core currant, black cherry and berry flavors have a seductive mocha-laced flavor, although a second bottle tasted a bit clipped on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2010. 4,000 cases made.

VM 89 (1/2006): Bright ruby-red. Dark berries and menthol on the nose. Sweet, dense and firm, with pure flavors of dark berries, spices and licorice; comes across as less oaky than the more expensive Elivette bottling, and with sweeter fruit. Finishes with supple tannins and good structure and breadth. Stephen Tanzer.
