WA 95 (10/2004): A brilliant effort, the 2001 Shiraz (Second Release) was aged 30 months in 3-year-old French casks. Full-bodied, powerful, rich, and well-balanced with well-integrated wood, acidity, and tannin as well as spectacularly pure blackberry and cassis fruit infused with touches of charcoal, smoke, and new saddle leather, it should drink well for 10-15 years.
WS 88 (7/2004): Ripe, broad and generous with its earthy berry and plum flavors, a touch of something like beet root coloring the profile. A sturdy wine that should develop with cellaring. Best after 2006. 400 cases made. |

| WA 99 (10/2006): The 2003 Shiraz (100% Shiraz from a 90-year-old Vine Vale vineyard) was cropped at .5 tons of fruit per acre, and was aged 32 months in old French oak. It is a magnificent effort boasting tremendous ripeness as well as abundant blueberry and creme de cassis notes intermixed with flowers, graphite, and crushed rocks. With amazing concentration, purity, and richness, but no heaviness (the alcohol is only 14.5%), and a finish that lasts well past a minute, it is accessible now, but should age effortlessly for two decades or more. |
